| JUST four months after signing a reported $400,000-a-year deal with Canberra, the career of star half-back Todd Carney is hanging by a thread after his latest indiscretion. In a massive blow to the finals chances of the resurgent Raiders, serial offender Carney is facing the sack from the club and deregistration by the NRL following claims he urinated on a pub patron during a post-match drinking binge on Sunday night. Carney's teammate Bronx Goodwin was also stood down from the team, pending a police investigation into allegations he assaulted a man during the same drinking session at the All Bar Nun hotel in the Canberra suburb of O'Connor. Only last year, Carney narrowly avoided being jailed and dumped from the Raiders after he was involved in a police chase through the back streets of Canberra. He was convicted of serious offences, ordered to perform 200 hours community service, placed on a good behaviour bond and warned he would be jailed if convicted of further driving charges. It is understood Carney could become the latest in only a handful of players in 100 years to be prevented from joining a rival club if sacked by Canberra for his latest alleged misbehaviour. |
