The NRL has made many blunders over the last decade.
Playing rep games in Melbourne , whilst ignoring the fanatical towns of Newcastle and Townsville is just the most stoopid maladministration I can think of .
Nth Qld has provided quality SOO players since the inception game 1980(Boustead), but lets play games in LA and Melbourne.
Melbourne cannot get a player in 1st grade, let alone rep quality. Promoting the game for a new audience may be a good idea, but to do so by ignoring your traditional supporters is arrogance at its greatest

And if my aunt had a cok, she'd be my uncle!

Seriously, what a load of cr@p!

The Storm are based in Vic, just like Souths are based in Sydney - the best players are spread accross the 16 teams, regardless of where the player is from.

The point of expansion is to PROMOTE the game to NEW audiences. The more places the game is played at the highest level, the more young kids there will be that want to play the game. This is for the benefit of the sport, not just A team.

Scott Prince would also never have left QLD though too, and Tim Smith would be playing for them and in a better frame of mind with his family close by.

Broncos wouldn't have Hannant, Micheals or Boyd.

That's true - if the Titans had been around 10 years ago Melbourne would be cellar dwellers.

I am so glad they did because that is what makes him a better player.BILLY wants to stay at STORM..I don't really care where they come from as long as they play their best footy at STORM.

That's right BK, and if there had have been a second SE QLD team when they were coming in to first grade then Melbourne would have had squat.

Like I said Stormy, until they win a premiership with a good few VIC juniors then they are just a VIC BASED team.

Stormy - your beloved C Smith only went to the Storm because the Broncos rejected him. He grew up supporting the Broncos, as did Folau, Slater, Kaufusi, Cronk, etc - most of the team are Queenslanders.

Why? They aren't a Victorian team otherwise.

Storm's success will be judged when they win the comp with a side made up of 50% VIC juniors.

Talk to anyone involved in the Reds and they were about to take off financially and support wise had Superleague not come along. Those dollars are now the ARU's through the Western Force.

Adelaide was a mistake, but the Crushers only failed through the culling of sides after the end of the 'war'.

Melbourne is a success, no matter what spin you want to put on it - they have the most valuable jersey in the comp in terms of sponsorship dollars!

The league CAN expand, they just need to do it properly, not just throw a team out there, wait for it to fail, and pack it up again.

Re:Funniest Thing I've Heard This Year Reply to this message
yeah, they tried "promoting the game" back in the 90's by putting teams in Perth, Adelaide and Southern Queensland

They've also tried "promoting the game" about 5 times on the Gold Coast (and final succeeded on the fifth attempt it seems)

The Storm and Warriors have become bottomless pits for NRL funds

The sooner administration swallows their pride and realises league is not a national game, the better

The Storm are the premiers, and still comment on how they enjoy living in Melbourne because they don't get recognised in the street

Yep, if it were at the Dome, or Suncorp then the crowd wouldn't be an issue. They'd have at least 40,000 to either venue.

Re:Funniest Thing I've Heard This Year Reply to this message
A sell-out crowd at Olympic Park, wow wee. Why don't we have it at Jack Woolaston Oval in Tamworth, we'd have a sell-out crowd there too.

If the Kiwis actually manned up last year instead of doing their best starfish impersonation, the Australian public would care about this match.
