| I'm not saying theres anyone better, but look what the farkwits 7 have done, they buy so many rights to sports, all on at the same time, and so v8 fans come out 2nd best. If one hd bought the rights to everything, there wouldn't be enough viewing time to show them all live, as Indy and F1s are usually on at same time, along with motogp |

| It was the IRL itself that did not want to go to the GC this year. It's a very insular series that runs almost entirely on ovals. |

| its the same the closer you are to the track. We stayed in nrth adelaide and that was the same as what you would pay staying away from the track in qld. Corporates like the fact that surfers was considered an 'international' event and advertising would hit more faces.. Though will power was in the 3rd penske he still had some australian sponsors. In the teams there are a number of australians working in indycar. The race wasnt broken it just had 2 egos clashing heads. Tony George is a team owner and the other was re elected till a replacement can be found. |

I agree. Having just attended by 16th Indy/SuperGp since 1993, there was definately something missing (including the A1GP's) from this years event.
Crowd numbers were well down, the atmosphere/vibe around the track and behind the pits was much more subdued.
I know the promoters were faced with a difficult decision once A1GP weren't coming, but there was much less activity happening on track, and the overall entertainment was down. The Legends was a good show, but certainly not a "race" that could be wheeled out every year.
Now the V8's were fantastic, and well done for stepping up and racing the 600kms. But the thing with "Indy" always was the unique event which raced the V8's with the Champ Cars / IRL.
To have Dixon, Power and Briscoe racing back on the streets of Surfers would be unreal.
I heard Cochrane wants to take it over as a V8 event, shorten the track, and run it his way. I hope they dont - dont replicate another Adelaide 500 / Sydney 500 for the sake of it - bring back the IRL! |

| Will Power was actually driving in a 3rd Penske car. Not a team aus car. He drove for team oz last year and in 07. |

I don't know what they charge at Clipsal, but when I looked into a Motel on the back straight at GC they were asking $500 per night.
Corporate sponsors pulled out due to the uncertainty of the event, if the event shcedule was set in stone I reckon most corporates would be very interested. |

yes TK, Will Power was driving for Team Australia up until the accident at Indianapolis.
But like most news from the Indy class, there is very little media to know how/when/where the Indy circus is at, unless there is a serious accident when it may be shown on the news. |

| ryan briscoe and will power, plus theres team owners, pitcrew members from australia. How many of you were at surfers for the race? So other catagories are needed hmm. When i went to sandown the last race was the fujitsu v8s and there was bout 30 people watching. I started volunteering at surfers when the v8s were way down the list. It worked. If it becomes a v8 only race alot of the volunteers wont be needed. Theres plenty of only v8 races in Australia, why cant there be an event that covers other fans needs? Alot of coporates pulled out after finding it was just v8s. Ask the merchandise how sales went? Not that good was the reply. I agree the accommodation prices are expensive but thats the same price youll pay at clipsal etc. |

we don't have to have internationals to make it work. Look at Adelaide or Townsville, they are very successful.
Once it is OFFICIALLY a V8SC event, organizers will need to look at support events to help increase crowd numbers.
More manufacturers are needed, such as Nation's Cup Cars, Production Cars, to help encourage other brand fans to the event.
The hospitality industry on the Gold Coast need to take a good look at the ridiculous accomodation prices, which internationals were willing to pay, but aussies won't with the prices sooooo high.
Great topic!!! |

| I wouldn't blame the v8s for the down in crowd, it's the sh1t a1 that brings crowds down. v8s being a support race to them until a week before wouldn't of helped anyone. In saying that, Indy was great, and the one year there is no Indy, v8sa turns it into a circus. |

| Im one of many who wants indycar brought back to surfers. Some may not. Qld needs an international motorsport for it to work. If the v8s were so popular how come accommodation wasnt full and the crowd wasnt there for the event.. I want to know did the free tickets, volunteers, workers get included in the total?. As there wasnt many around. Going out at night, surfers was empty. A group on facebook has been created 'Bring back indycar to surfers next year', please join up so it can be presented to the img and qld govt etc to show that theyre indycar fans in australia and that indycar shouldve never left. |
