Yeah, matt, something called Computational Fluid Dynamics - supposed to take over the role of the good old windtunnel. If it works, this may save the teams millions of dollars in testing costs.

The Virgin Racing car looks good and they are saying it's the first completely designed by a computer.

Re:F1 Driver Changes Reply to this message
Getting back to the topic of driver changes, Renault have announced their second driver, Russian Vitaly Petrov. Not only will he bring his estimated $15m of much-needed sponsorship, but, unlike most pay-drivers, he has skill! Runner up to Hulkenberg last year in GP2, hopefully he will put in a better performance than the other drivers to grace the Renault No.2 seat.

Re:F1 Driver Changes Reply to this message
Begging your pardon, cobar, but how can you say that? Webbers been on the up ever since he started F1, 2009 is only the second year his team-mate finished ahead of him in the standings. And he won his first two F1 race's to boot.

To call a F1 driver a "journyman" is a bit rough, as drivers are looking for the best cars, unlike some racing competitions which have cars nearly the same. No, Webber is reaching his peak now, this could be the year when, fully fit and in the right car, he is a genuine contender for the title.

And we have'nt had one of those since Alan Jones, a very long time ago.

Fair go!

Webber is a journeyman driver.

He has peaked and it's all downhill from here for him

Re:F1 Driver Changes Reply to this message
Webber and Shui as team-mates? Would love to see that! It's Webbers last year on his contract for Red Bull Racing, maybe if Nico doesn't race real well a move could be on the cards.....? Crikey, we're speculating on NEXT years' driver line up, and this year hasn't even started yet! lol

Re:F1 Driver Changes Reply to this message
In a move similar to last year's creation of BrawnGP from the ashes of Honda, a Serbian businessman is set to creat a new team from the rubble that was Toyota F1.

From the yahoo website: Serbian businessman Zoran Stefanovic on Friday signed an agreement with Toyota which could pave the way for a new team, Stefan GP, to take part in the 2010 Formula One world championship.

Toyota pulled out of the championship in November last year, but this new agreement would see Stefan GP benefit from the Japanese manufacturer's technical knowhow.

The new team would also take over the former Toyota F1 base at Cologne.

Nice idea, but with one notable difference - Ross Brawn is known far a wide for his skill as a director in F1 through Ferrari, and now BrawnGP/Merceades. This guy would in an unknown in racing, and would need to purchase some serious talent to be a contender.

Re:F1 Driver Changes Reply to this message
USF1 have confirmed the latest rumour that has been doing the rounds lately - the US team have confirmed that Jose Maria Lopez will race for them this season. Lopez, who has previously tested for Renault, will be the 24th Argentine Formula One driver in the history of the world championship.

In other news, Red Bull have announced a ANZAC contribution, with Aussie Daniel Ricciardo and Kiwi Brendon Hartley being awarded the reserve drivers slot on an alternating race-by-race basis for RBR and STR. Both drivers took part in the young driver test at the Spa.n.i.s.h circuit of Jerez in December 2009. Hartley was in action for Toro Rosso, whilst Ricciardo was behind the wheel of Red Bull’s RB5.

Not wishing any misfortune on anyone ,but wouldn't it be great to see TWO Aussies racing F1 this year!!??

Re:F1 Driver Changes Reply to this message
From the F1 website..

Jaime Alguersuari will retain his race seat with Toro Rosso for the 2010 season, lining up alongside Sebastien Buemi for the Italian team. Alguersuari replaced Sebastien Bourdais at the Red Bull-owned squad in July last year.

Not too many spots left, wonder who USF1 is looking at? Idea's, anyone?

Re:F1 Driver Changes Reply to this message
Here's the latest - BMW Sauber announced on Tuesday that Pedro de la Rosa will race for the Swiss-based team this season. De la Rosa, who will pair up with new team mate Kamui Kobayashi, has 71 Grands Prix starts under his belt and has worked with McLaren as a test and reserve driver for the last seven years.

His racing has been limited, of late. I think he will be running mid-pack, at best.

Re:F1 Driver Changes Reply to this message
Any chance of Jacque V picking up a drive?

I don't think so, Jacques V would need a monster sponship deal to secure a seat. Bringing back a 7 time champ in Shui is a far cry from bringing back a single Champ.

Re:F1 Driver Changes Reply to this message
Kamui Kobayashi signed for Sauber in December - he looks the goods after his two outings for Toyota last year. Japan has not had the best of reputations for producing F1 racers of quality, I hope he breaks the tradition.
