Nicky Hayden got his first decent position on the grid, only to blow the start big time. C,mon Nicky, Ducati needs another rider up there dicing with the Hondas and Yamahas. You made a good effort in the end , but all too late I,m afraid.

Rossi wins German MotoGP
AAP - July 20, 2009, 12:04 am

Valentino Rossi held off Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo to win a thrilling German MotoGP race on Sunday, his 101st career victory.

The Italian veteran, who started in pole position, finished ahead of Spaniard Lorenzo, with Honda's Dani Pedrosa, also of Spain, taking third place ahead of Ducati's Casey Stoner.

"It's an important win at this stage of the season," said championship leader Rossi.

"It was another fantastic battle with (Casey) Stoner and then Jorge until the last lap. I knew that on this circuit it's very difficult to pass so I stayed ahead on the final lap."

The win saw Rossi extend his lead in the overall standings to 176 points after nine events, 14 ahead of Lorenzo, with Stoner in third on 148 and Pedrosa a further 40pts adrift in fourth.

Early on during the race, French rider Randy De Puniet suffered a dramatic tumble on the opening lap in front of 98,000 spectators when pressing in third position behind Rossi and Pedrosa, sliding off the track as his bike bucked.

Stoner, last season's winner in Germany, took advantage to move swiftly past Rossi and Pedrosa to take the lead on the seventh lap.

The Australian forced the pace, with only the final podium finishers able to stick to him. By the 11th lap there were already five seconds between Stoner and fifth place occupied by Alex De Angelis of San Marino.

Rossi retook the lead on the 16th lap, with Lorenzo and then Pedrosa overtaking Stoner.

The two Yamahas then edged away, with Lorenzo taking the attack to Rossi and assuming the lead with five laps to go.

In a nail-biting climax, Rossi moved back into the lead with two laps to go and held off Lorenzo as the Spaniard pretender tried one last desperate pass on the final bend.

Re:09 Moto GP Season. (PREVIEW)
If lorenzo had have set it up a bit earlier on that last lap he could have blocked rossi In the last corner,

Rossi calculates his opponents strengths well-
often foregoing the lead to see exactly where.

Thats what i was saying before. I thought Lorenzo would have wanted longer before moving on Rossi. But Lozenzo will work it out.

Re:09 Moto GP Season. (PREVIEW)
lorenzo will have to watch out for the mind games himself soon. If he starts getting too close or beating rossi , the evil little wog will come out again. Much the same as it did with gibernau . Rossi is always freindly with those he is beating, but lookout when they start beating him :)

Haha yep, will be interesting to watch Lorenzo develop and start picking off Rossi. He's matching him in speed by the looks but Rossi is better at seting up the rider in front of for the past especially late in the race.

Thought Lozendo may have waited a while longer to have a go at Rossi. Good for a while there with three fighting it out till Stoner dropped up.

The only reason I'm pickin Lorenzo is because he's Nearly nearly almost there,

He smells a championship and is working harder than anyone else.

chris, marco and loris are generally great in the wet. marco should have romped it in earlier in the season, but it stopped raining. Kwakka is not that quick in the dry
