:-(( Its a sad day for lovers of the 250 2 strokes today, and a shame Honda won the world championship as they are the ones who pushed and pushed for the 600 4 stroke thus ending our beloved 2 strokes.....:-(( |

Yamaha unveils Ben Spiesâ livery for Valencia
Wednesday, 04 November 2009
The Sterilgarda Yamaha Team have unveiled the special one-off livery for 2009 Superbike Champion Ben Spies.
The Sterilgarda Yamaha Team have unveiled the special one-off livery for 2009 World Superbike Champion Ben Spies ahead of his wildcard ride at the final MotoGP race in Valencia this weekend. Spies will be riding the Yamaha YZR-M1 prior to joining the Tech3 Yamaha Team next Monday to start testing for the 2010 season.
The American rider has achieved astonishing success in his rookie year in World Superbike, bringing the first ever World Superbike Championship victory for Yamaha. Over the 2009 season he scored 14 race wins and 11 pole position starts in the class, becoming the all-time greatest rookie in the process.
âIâm really excited for the opportunity to race at Valencia this weekend,â said Spies. âIâm fully aware that MotoGP is a big step up from World Superbike and realize itâs not going to be possible to achieve the same results in my first year there. I see this weekend as an opportunity to spend some time on the bike and start learning it for next season, and to have some fun as well!â. |

The competition for fifth place is still very much alive, with just six points the difference between Andrea Dovizioso and Colin Edwards. The Italianâs crash at Sepang was not largely capitalised on by Edwards, whose 13th-placed classification means that the fight for fifth will now go down to the wire at Valencia.
Seventh place, meanwhile, is still to be decided upon between no less than six likely candidates. Marco Melandri (Hayate Racing), Loris Capirossi (Rizla Suzuki), Alex de Angelis and Toni ElÃas (both San Carlo Honda Gresini), Chris Vermeulen (Rizla Suzuki) and Randy de Puniet (LCR Honda) are all separated by just seven points from positions seven to 12.
All have top-ten finishes at Valencia within the past two seasons, with Melandriâs fourth in 2007 the most notable recent result from the pack. Nicky Hayden, at a further eight points adrift of De Puniet, has an outside chance of challenging for seventh if he manages his second podium of the year and other results go his way.
Also riding at Valencia will be American star Ben Spies, who will take to the track as a wildcard for Yamaha in preparation for his first full MotoGP season with Monster Yamaha Tech 3 in 2010. |

Multiple battles to be contested at final round at Valencia
Monday, 02 November 2009
Valentino Rossi may have sealed the 2009 MotoGP World Championship at Sepang, but there are still scores to be settled involving Jorge Lorenzo, Casey Stoner, Dani Pedrosa, and a host of other riders in the final round of the season at Valencia.
A ninth world title was wrapped up by Valentino Rossi in Malaysia, leaving the remainder of the MotoGP class to decide the final standings beyond first place for the 2009 season at the Gran Premio Generali de la Comunitat Valenciana.
Rossiâs Fiat Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo pushed him the closest for the title this year, and now the 22 year-old looks primed to secure second spot in his second season in the premier class. With a 25-point margin between him and Casey Stoner in third, it would take a non-point scoring finish from the Spaniard and a race win for the Ducati Marlboro man to dislodge Lorenzo from the runner-up position.
Far likelier for Stoner, who comes into round 17 in a rich vein of form having won his last two races at Sepang and Phillip Island, is third place to round off a season interrupted by illness. Speculation will linger as to how the final standings could have looked had the 2007 World Champion not missed Brno, Indianapolis and Misano due to fatigue, but the focus is now on preventing Dani Pedrosa from regaining third place. With victory last year and second the season before, the 24 year-old Australian has a strong pedigree at Valencia.
Repsol Hondaâs Pedrosa is 11 points adrift in fourth, and needs a strong showing at a track where he won in 2007 and finished second at last time out.
The competition for fifth place is still very much alive, with just six points the difference between Andrea Dovizioso and Colin Edwards. The Italianâs crash at Sepang was not largely capitalised on by Edwards, whose 13th-placed classification means that the fight for fifth will now go down to the wire at ... |

"It was spectacular, and I can't thank Yamaha enough and everyone who has been behind me for my first year here.
"It'll sink in during the next couple of days."
Spies won the world title with 462 point from Haga (456), Fabrizio (382), Aprilia's Max Biaggi (319) and Honda's Jonathan Rea (315).
Australia's Troy Corser was 13th on 96 points after a rollercoaster debut year on the BMW.
For Haga, it's the second time in three years that he's been the championship runner-up by only a few points.
But the 34-year-old from Nagoya was magnanimous in defeat.
"My compliments go to Ben who has been such a strong rival this year and even though he is going to MotoGP next year, I am sure we will remain friends," said Haga.
"All weekend I have had problems with set-up, mainly with the tyres that didn't give me total confidence.
"In race one we mounted two hard tyres and they didn't perform as we'd hoped and unfortunately I fell even though I wasn't pushing so hard.
"We changed bikes for race two, just to be sure, as well as changing tyres of course.
"Unfortunately second in the race was not enough to take the title and it's a real pity."
Meanwhile, Newcastle's Broc Parkes completed his Kawasaki tenure with 11th and 12th places, and 18th place overall in the championship. |

New Stoner rival grabs Superbike crown

Brilliant American Ben Spies is set to challenge Casey Stoner and Valentino Rossi on the 2010 world MotoGP circuit after claiming the world Superbike title in a stunning debut season.
Spies clinched the crown in a tense final round at Portimao, Portugal on Sunday, as chief rival Noriyuki Haga blew his chance when the battle which went down to the wire.
The Texan set a record for the most pole positions in a year, and followed it up with 14 stirring race victories - six more than Haga - as he delivered Yamaha's first individual world title win since the championship began in 1988.
Spies, the sixth American to win the world superbike title, will now take on new champion Rossi and Stoner when he races in the final round of this year's MotoGP title at Valencia as a wildcard, ahead of a permanent move in 2010.
Spies rose to the occasion in the final round Superbike round, dominating race one from start to finish, while Haga lost the front-end of his Ducati and crashed on lap seven while making up time in fifth place.
That allowed Spies to head into the final race with a handy 15 point margin over Haga, requiring only a sixth or better even if the Japanese rider won.
In a monitoring exercise throughout the 22-laps, Spies remained vigilant in fifth place, more than enough to win the world title from Haga, who was a close second behind his Italian Ducati teammate Michel Fabrizio.
"We did what we had to do and it was difficult to do that because the pace was quite fast and I saw that there were a couple of people behind me," said Spies.
"I knew that if Nori won I had to be sixth, so I tried to stay out of trouble."
"It was spectacular, and I can't thank Yamaha enough and everyone who has been behind me for my first year here.
