Re:888 to toyota / Holden Reply to this message
Ford was a minor sponsor of 888.

At the end of the day Ford has made a business decision to place the majority of their funds into two teams, right or wrong.

FPR develop their cars in house as do SBR. 888 though they have shown that they are great at chassis setup and have the drivers to win, but still get their engines supplied from SBR.

I hate to see funds cut from 888, DJR and Britek like many other people but it is a business decision and life goes on.

Be good to see a bit of the ole days of dealer sponsorship back on the side of the cars :)

Nah FORD dont look after there own, we only sent Ambrose to USA with full FORD backing, Lowndes is the highest payed driver of the series thanks partly to FORD. Nah we dont look after our own.

Re:888 to toyota / Holden Reply to this message
Its past that point boss - silhouette formula, WTCC running gear (including diesels) - SEL running it like they do V8SC. dont worry they will be as quick as the V8s.
The financial problems Ford have, so do GM.
Wont be about Commodores & Falcons.

Re:888 to toyota / Holden Reply to this message
All you people need to realise Holden will never let another manufacturer come into V8 racing, they worked so hard to get the skyline booted out because they couldnt build a decent car, even with a Nissan engine. Now with all the cash they spent on VE there is no chance Toyota, Misubishi or Nissan will ever be invited back to the V8's. Even if these manufactures have 4 door rear wheel drive V8's and are built in OZ.

Re:888 to toyota / Holden Reply to this message
V8 Landcruisers round Bathurst SUPA CAR that would be, just think if one runs over the side of the mountain, out comes the winch and pulls itself back on the track. Toyota is starting to improve in F1 so who nows what could happen here in oz. Bring back touring cars we don't all drive or want to drive Holdens or Fords. Ive been a Fordie for 50 years but my BA is the last one i'll be peddlin New Fords and Holdens are no where near their old quality and reliability, My V6 Camry is a better drive.

Re:888 to toyota / Holden Reply to this message
Mate, they've already told the Stock Exchange they are going to cut their losses ... the real question is how long is the 888 contract because they wont get more money from Vodafone to change camps .... only hope is money from the (anyone bar Ford) manufacturer.

Re:888 to toyota / Holden Reply to this message
I think it would make a better series for Toyota or even Chrysler or any other manufacturer to get involved in the competition. It would generate interest.

and move on.

Re:888 to toyota / Holden Reply to this message
With Vodafone not travelling too well financially, 888 anywhere has to be doubtful.
Vodafone need a billion pounds (billion not million, pounds not our much smaller dollars) for a share buy back - cant see Roland spending up in 2009.

Well good luck to Roland if he does not want any badges on his cars!

So is he going to remove the one across the windscreen like all the Fords have? Rolands no ldiot and he still wants to win, so if the Fords are the better package with good horsepower engines from SBR, why would he change? But thats his choice.

roland dane has been confirmed as saying there is no deal with toyota as they have no v8 based 4 door car in production and there is a big chance that 888 will not be running ford badges at all and there cars will be called 888 supercars for the series next year that is the talk at the moment my source is very reliable i know them personslly

Re:888 to toyota / Holden Reply to this message
I wonder how close a non turbo XR6 would get to a 6 litre holden? Or on the other hand, would it still be as quick as a turbo 6 litre? To me its like saying that an athlete using steriods performs better than one who doesnt.
As for the 3.8 mitsu being as quick as a 5 litre??? yeah..Id like to see that...not.

Re:888 to toyota / Holden Reply to this message
Toyota must have a production V8 as they are in NASCAR. Stop calling the series V8 Supercars and go back to being a full on touring car championship. The XR6 Turbo G series is purportedly quicker than the Holden 6 ltr V8.

Even the 3.8ltr Mitsubishi V6 will give a 5 ltr V8 (both) a hard run, if not beat them, for their money.

Bathurst has lost all interest for me without the Comaro's, Jags, rice burners and others that used to turn up.

The two marque series should be killed off and an open Touring Car series brought back.

Ford are not the only ones to withdraw funding pretty sure Holden do not fund all the Holden runners either. Commercial reality is just that. I feel for DJR and 888 but business is business and Ford (Holden too) are in financial strife and this has been coming for some time at least 3 or 4 years.

Re:888 to toyota / Holden Reply to this message
With all the talk of Toyota coming into the racing, i thought the cars still had to be a V8 based manufactured car? I know they are planning on dropping the rule of locally built V8 car. But what Toyoto 4 door sedan runs a V8. Do they base it on a Lexus?

Re:888 to toyota / Holden Reply to this message
Toyota and Panasonic are contracted in motorsports around the world.
VodaPhone is 888's best sponsor, they (888), will run the new ford until the end of 2010. Or they may run one of each and push the "vodaphone 888" as a brand in it's own right?
I can't see a toyota with Vodaphone on the side. I can't see vodaphone dumping 888 or vice versa.
Stranger things have happened.

Re:888 to toyota / Holden Reply to this message
888 will maybe switch to holden as roland dane said yesterday but how much money will ford lose in the long run losing both lowndes and whincup or could lowndes still be the face of ford and drive a holden fpr have been no where for years and now they get more cash and surprise they get a 1-2.They have been the factory team in one form or another for about 10 years ftr gsr. d1ck johnson getting screwed is an outrage hands up all those who threw money in after the rock. maybe d1ck could hit them up for a severance pay out after 40 years

Re:888 to toyota / Holden Reply to this message
I think you will probably see some movement for 2009, T8 will be to far into next years car to suddenly drop everything and start again, they are still contracted till the end of this year.

Both Lowndes and Whincup will be an interesting one as both are still contracted to Ford also.

As Roland said, Ford are no were near their biggest sponsor.

So interesting times ahead for both Ford and Holden.
