Re:IRL Reply to this message
Is this the end to Indy on the Gold Coast? I just read the Autowewek magazine online:

IndyCar Series teams are not thrilled with the financial prospect of racing in Australia on Oct. 26. Various team officials say they still don't know how much money they will receive for making the trip but have been told it will be between $10,000 and $30,000 per car. That's not enough, they say.

They estimate it will cost $100,000 per car (assuming that no crash damage occurs in the race), and teams will only be able to bring a skeleton crew, since they will receive just 15 airline tickets--and those are only from Los Angeles, meaning that they would have to pay their own way to reach L.A.

Re:IRL Reply to this message
Sorry. Been a while since I was here. The anti-siphoning agreement is Federal legislation that gives free-to-air networks the right to first bid for sporting events/competitions that are deemed to be of national significance. Pay TV networks - so Fox Sports and ESPN - have to wait until all the FTA networks pass up the offer until they can bid on it.

This is the motorsport-relevant stuff on the list...

Formula 1 World Championship (Grand Prix) held in Australia
Moto GP held in Australia
V8 Supercar Championship Series (including the Bathurst 1000)
Champ Car World Series (IndyCar) held in Australa

Note that the only whole series covered by the law is the V8s. Theoretically, Fox Sports could buy all of the F1 races, and only allow Ten the AGP. Also, as far as I know, the Australian MotoGP is the only race that Fox Sports can't show live.

Re:IRL Reply to this message
Dont get me started about cable showing irl races. They advertise in the magazine the times the races are suppose to be on monthly. Well theyre not shown at those times, I have to check the day before on the menu to double check the times and mostly theyre wrong... Its a complet pain in the bum. Considering we have aussie drivers in the series and team owners. Why are channel 7 showing it? Oh do you think they spent the budget bidding for the olympics?

Re:IRL Reply to this message
I watched some of the race on ESPN. ESPN had the IRL last year, and they've got it again this year. Ten showed a highlights package last year a couple of weeks after the fact.

Re:IRL Reply to this message
This is typical C7 *** . They only got onto the Champ Car races mid last year due to fan pressure and the lead up to the gold coast race. Didn't C10 show the Indy 500 last year?

so now we dont have any coverage, not even the Indy 500, and like previous writers, the Gold Coast race will suffer beacuse no one can follow the category.

Re:IRL Reply to this message
YES ONCE AGAIN CH7 COULDN'T CARE. BUT MAKE ABET AS WE GET CLOSER TO THE GOLD COAST RACE , WE WILL START TO SEE THE RACES FILTER THROUGH. JUST LIKE LAST YEAR . IT IS A SHAME BUT I THINK CH 7 WILL BE THE DEMISE OF THE GOLD COAST RACE BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF VIEWERS. AND ONCE AGAIN WE WON'T HAVE A INTERNATIONAL RACE JUST LIKE MELBOURNE'S F1 UNDER LIGHTS.

Re:IRL Reply to this message
ESPN has all of them. Seven gets the Gold Coast Indy because of the anti-siphoning agreement.

Re:IRL Reply to this message
I have not heard anything yet BUT it might be like last year. Channel 7 might show it as it gets closer to the race at the Gold Coast. I hope someone shows the Indy 500.
