| Isle of man........crazy guys, but have you ever watched the Irish road racing on fox....OMG. dead set freaks. 2 wheels off the ground at 220+, landing a little crossed up, then onto the brakes HARD into a 90 degree right hander where the road narrows to barely one lane wide and is fenced with barbed wire and a herd of cows hanging over it. | I happened to blunder onto the Isle of Man races on Star Sports the last 2 mornings..It was the Centennial 1907-2007 races from last year..Must have missed the Chairs.. Anyways yesterday was the 600's ,,and today the 1000's.. Absolutely fuggin fantastic..I take my hat off to those boys.. Guy called McGuinnes won the 1000's on a Honda Fireblade,,which took the first 4 spots,,then a GSXR in 5th.The winner set a lap record of just over 130 MPH !!! First time the 130 has been cracked... That track is about like Bathurst was in the 50's..Narrow,rough,,blood y dangerous..But Bathurst has been improved,,corners straightened,,road widened,,and plenty of Armco to bounce you back onto the black stuff...That is ,,the track has kept pace with the speed of the cars.. But the IOM is pretty much as it has always been,,even though the bikes have got a lot faster..Make a mistake there,,and there is no Armco,,or run off areas..Just trees,,stone walls,,and brick houses,,not to mention the gutters.. That would be the craziest place to ride fast..I dips me lid to those riders.. Just a pity we could not see the current crop of MotoGP riders there..Frankly,,I think some of those guys racing there would give the GP riders a bit of hurry up... I would have loved to seen the old days with Hailwood up against Agostini !!! |
