| I think Brian smith is doing a good job an im a knights supporter. For to long the club have let good players go and kept mediocre players to keep joey and bedsy. In 2000 we should have won the comp but went on to win it the next year. No thanks to M hagan that was set up by W ryan. Smith has left every club in a better position than when first arrived and has taken every club to a grand final ecpt norths. We need better players and that is wot he is doing building for the future. Players get payed enough abd have played for long enough to know what to expct week in week out so they should suck it up. Funny how smith took parra 2 1 week from the gf and got smashed by the cowboys and then the team come out the next year with doubt and got smashed. | If Wayne Bennett was coaching Newcastle the results would be the same.For too long the Newcastle players had relied on Andrew Johns to get them out of trouble.One just has to look at their win/loss record when he was out injured.Those players who have left or won't be there next year had plenty of chances to prove themselves when Andrew Johns was out injured but they failed to do so. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| They are paid to perform no matter what. If you go to see U2 and they have had a bust up with their management and put in a very poor performance you are entitled to ask for your money back. Whether the players know it or not, football is now part of the entertainment business. And fans and sponsors pay good money to see them play to the best of their ability. Not for players to cry off because the coach has said harsh words to them. |

| I agree, the players weren't putting in a full efort up until Fittler became coach. Is it a fair assumption then, that the new coach is getting the best out of his players? You perform better when you have a good reason to perform. Yes, the fear of the axe can be a decent motivator, but I reckon for most players, they perform better when they respect the coach, and the coach respects them. |

| How does a team get smacked 56-0 one week go out and win 4 and draw 1 out of their next 5. If you are suggesting it was any great coaching from Fittler, you should think a little deeper. The players werent trying, for whatever reason. Maybe they didnt like Anderson's coaching methods, but blind freddie could see that the players werent having a red hot go up until Fittler arrived. The same goes for Newcastle, if the players stop whining and got on with playing they might be higher up the later. |

| Hang on...the Roosters got a new coach and started winning...and it was the players fault they were losing before? How does that make any sense at all? You do say some strange things. Of course you're allowed to disagree with me, that's my point. I'm not the one who said "You can't blame Smith for the losses". |

| In a democracy I also have the right to disagree with your point of view. As friday says the coach can only do so much, once the players are on the field it is up to them. Perfect case is the roosters, get a new coach and are undeafeted in 5 games. Obviously those players werent give 100% up to that point. And were letting down the club and its supporters. |

| The thing i want to know is Why do the coaches get the blames when the players are the ones that stuff up not the coach the coach is given the job of trying to teach the player ball skills,tackling skills,and to get them conditioned as well as giving them a game plan but when the players are stupid show ponies the coach gets the blame and i for 1 am sick of it. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Why can't I blame Smith for their losses? I should be allowed to blame whoever I want. We do still live in a democracy, right? Newcastle were going alright at the start of the season without Johns. So what happened since then? |

| Fatty was given a mandate by the Ch9 board......try and be more of an embarrassment than Sam Newman. He hasn't done it yet, but he tries every week. And i think that is what counts. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Sad but true. One thing is certain at the moment - Smith has the full support of the board. I watched the Footy Show blokes talking about this last night - they really have no clue. Fatty should quit and stop embarassing himself. He does seem to enjoy doing so, unfortunately. |

| Brian Smith will NOT be sacked this season. When the board gives you a mandate (no not what quacks proffession is) to clear out and build, then they have to stand by him.
