I'm all for keeping the clubs around... as long as they're viable. North have proven that they are!

<<nye has been a solid Roo supporter for a good while now>>

If you mean as in supporting the Roos staying in Melbourne, then yes, he is - a lot of us are.
But he's a Hawks-man.

Rand, no the Brisbane/Fitzroy merger ended the history of both clubs. I consider Sydney to be exactly the same as South Melbourne though, same club, different ground!

I understand your passion, and please, read my post. I support the Roos in staying and fighting. I am stoked they are over 31,000 members - and again, I plead with Roos fans who signed up this year to do so again next year, in 2010, 2011, 2012....

Thats a load of bs nye. It was never going to be the same club. North Melbourne is not the Gold Coast.
You cant seriously think that the Brisbane Lions is the same as the Fitzroy Lions.

By the way the clubs membership has gone over 30000. The club has been more than justified in saying no.

Look at the Hawks in '96. We were in debt, had just 12,400 members and were faced with a merger to survive. The Hawks fans rallied and in '97 we had 27,000 members despite finishing 15th!

Our fans were guilty of being apathetic after two decades at the top of the game. Many just assumed we were 'untouchable'.

Since that little wake up call our membership hasn't dipped below 26,000 and most years it is above 30,000. That is inspite of our poor on-field results of recent years.

Now that we are looking like a genuine flag threat again I am expecting our membership to fly past 35,000.

We are now, a decade on, the richest victorian club in terms of assets (yes, richer than Collingwood) and are not going anywhere!

The Roos, had they gone north, would have still been the same club, just playing out of a different home ground. This would have been much better than folding or merging. However they have decided to go it alone - all credit to them for doing so. The only problem is that if they fail now it is curtains for the club, there is no Gold Coast fallback option.

So c'mon Roo fans, put your money where your heart is and buy memberships - even if you are nowhere near an AFL venue to see them live. I don't want to see this great club, and a fantastic rival to my Hawks, become nothing but a trivia question.

Emotions aside, this whole issue is in the hands of the Roos supporters, if they want a footy team in Melbourne then they must support it 100%, this year every member should try to entice a friend to join up, I did with my club years ago and Ive had some great days at the football with my friends since. People must not look back in time, modern AFL is a business and part of that business is the Kangaroos and all like all businesses they must sell their product or sink, the AFL has a policy and they've already told the clubs they're not going to put up good money to chase bad. The coming season will decide the future of the Roos, if the deficit of $4.5 million is a true figure then all Kangaroos from the board right through to the youngest member must sell the Kangaroos product.

luap pull ya pants up , you speak out ya a ss. How the bloody hell would you know anything about the Roos and the dees.???????????????????? ????????????????????????? ?????

your just as big a w@nker as Des, although Des at times is funny. Your borish behaviour is nothing but tiresome.

The next 2 sides to merge will be Lions & the Gold Coast Clangers , the 17th team . Maybe, Des would agree Richo would be the ideal man to lead the new outcasts sorry outfit. They'll be lucky to have 5 000 members the G.C . side.
As the Roos motor past 20 000 members , we only had 22 odd thou last season, we'll end up with around 30 000 . So f off.!!!!

Your both a bunch of gutless morons. Your ruining my football club just because you both want some *** king money. Its been North Melbourne for 138 years.
The AFL are killing off North Melbourne. Your a dip *** thunder and gutless piece of *** .

In not supporting a Gold Coast club you tool. I support a Melbourne based football club called North Melbourne.

We are North Melbourne. There is more to the club than a mascot. Shinboner spirit doesnt belong on the GC. And what happens if in 5 years they change the name to the Gold Coast Sharks. What happens to the club then? Where the *** k did our club go?

Re:Bye to Victorian Kangaroos in 2010 Reply to this message
Well Rand , how's about you give any ideas how we can fight this battle or more importantly pay of our debt of 4.25 mil . Two years ago the roos owed just on 3 mil. They had a plan in place to be debt free within 4 years of that point. Well we is goin' a backwards pretty bloody fast.

I didn't realise the extent of our debt , so now i'd say we may have no choice , but to share our Club between 2 locations, unfortunately.
North as we all know had offered to play 8 games a season on the Coast. So it may well be 11 . 8-9 Vic 2-3other.
And to be honest , i'd take that and be a traitor if you like. Because we've got less than 5 seasons left in the tank as it stands now.

Re:Bye to Victorian Kangaroos in 2010 Reply to this message
I may be a cynical realist but if the Kangas move, then they move. It won't stop me supporting the "Kangaroos" as they're now known, it just stops me from going to home games.

If AFL killed off the Kangaroos I wouldn't follow AFL anymore.

You're implying if they become the GC Kangaroos you'd stop supporting them yourself.

You have no idea of the concept of treachery...

So, what, if North went to GC you'd stop barracking for them (that's the gist of what you're implying)?

Real patriotic...

Re:Bye to Victorian Kangaroos in 2010 Reply to this message
You say that you would only be a traitor if you started barracking for the Cats, Hawks or Saints.

Well i have news for you. The Gold Coast AFL Roos is not the same club as the North Melbourne football club. So you would be barracking for a different club. And that would mean your a traitor.

And im sick of hearing the word inevitable. If you had cancer and the doctor told you its inevitable that you would die then would you just give up all hope of living or would you try to give yourself a chance of surviving.
