if your hatred of the Tiges gets us across the line brian , i'll take it.:P
oh Wells said he had a shocker cause he was feeling a little FLAT.!!!!!! WTF , first round , clubs fought hard to remain in the comp & he can't find any motivation against the Bombers in front of near 50 000 people. If that didn't push his buttons i doubt anything will. Pull ya finger outta ya ass Wellsie. |

fair call wanton the Bombers were very committed , they played well. But not yet panick stations for the Roos...
i think North got it a little wrong at selection
no Jess Smith (injured)
no Jess Sinclair (injured)
no Corey Jones ( lasted about 2 minutes)
no Lachlan Hansen. (???)
And Laids needs to get over trying to make a CHF out of Hale. Its not going to happen for Hale this life time. In my opinion Petrie is a much better Chf & Hale a handy no 2 ruckman. He struggles to take contested marks . A massive issue for any CHF.
looking forward to next week and the Tiges . |

10 positives!!
OK; Umps love Thommo!
Harris, Harvey were very good, Edwards led well.
Their approach to stoppages, in the middle particularly sees them win ball despite Hames win/lose ratio!
Frankly, they positively can say some tried hard all day while they were on. Firrito was magnificent!
Essendon gritted it out to stay in touch, Harris benched, flood started. Jetta was fantastic as well. I have believed it for a couple of years now, the Bombers are headed in the right direction. Like the Roos last year when they lost Thommo, when Lucas went yesterday, the Bombers opened up!
I know the threads is about Roo positives, I am positive of this, they will not be the only side the Bombers "touch up" this year! |

Cant believe Scoty McMahon didnt get a run. Was good to see Harding running around again as well.
Shame that Wellsy continues to be a lazy footballer. |

Big Thommo a fair return to senior footy. I've been very critical of him in the past.
Drew petrie played well , gees i think he should play CHF.
Lindsay Thomas did ok.
48100 people turned up , not a bad crowd.
another 1000 odd memberships sold , gives us over 28 000 . Off field is where we need a win this season.
Scott Thompson also did ok , but was swamped after half time. |

Yes ok ya a Vic at heart.
Yes the game plan is the main reason we're kicking more goals, fair enough, but i wonder if not having Thommo has made then think outside the square.
The rotations through our forward line are quite amazing, Harvey spent time playing AT CHF LAST week .!!
If he'd have played we probably would have beaten Collingwood, but we were terrible against the Hawks.
O.K he can stay, i won't bag him anymore.
Harding though.....
I did know where we got Adams , Campbell from, hence draft pick 1006
I will also say any damage to our list through some dodgey recruiting has been fixed..... With guys like Adams , Edwards, Thomas and co
I'm not sure we'll make the eight though, not bagging the boys, i'm rapt for them, i just think our wiork rate will drop off at some point with so many younger guys playing. Hope i'm wrong, GO ROOs |

Interstaters hey?
Well here is a few stats for you. Born in Preston VIC in 1979. Grew up in Sunbury, VIC till Oct 2003 when i moved do to my current occupation.
I have seen about 100 North Melbourne games live and have probably seen about the same amount and perhaps more on TV. Not to mention all the games I have probably seen of other clubs on TV.
Are they kicking more goals because Thommos out or is it because of the gameplan has gone from one of keep possession to one of run and attack at all times?
How can you say we are doing better without Thommo? If Thommo was in the side we might have beaten Collingwood and Hawthorn.
Mental strengths not his forte? How about playing at the highest level of Aussie Rules while suffering from depression? How about having the mental strength to come forward and admit you have suffered from it and are willing to bring awareness to the cause.
Its pretty hard to kick more than 50 goals a year when the ball is getting kicked backwards and sideways on the half back line.
Did you also now that Quentin Lynch kicked less goals than Thommo in 2006 even though he plays in a team with a midfield of Judd, Kerr and Cousins.
We are doing better without Leigh Harding in the side aswell.
Edwards was pick 82, Cambell and Adams came off the Rookie list. |

Oh Rand, i'm glad you can pull out of your huge bag of tricks all the stats you need, to make your self feel better.
BUT i would like to ask after following some of the retorts and comments you leave! .....
How many games involving the Roos have you seen/ either live or on t.v???? Because i saw some where you said you didn't have Foxtel and your not in Vic so it must be hard seeing all these stats you love bringing up. STATS MEAN JACK.!! meaningless nonsense.... i don't go by marks , kicks and Handballs.
Why then without Thommo are we doing better???
( as in kicking more goals weekly)
He kicked 50 odd goals as the main forward.. whoopi doo
THIS SEASON WE HAVEN"T MISSED HIM
Afew years ago M.Roberts was doing what Thommo managed without any fuss. He was just another footballer, and i get offended when Thommo is called our best player. Bull shat
The main thing against him is his age, he won't play in a G/f for the Roos..... they (Laidley & co) panicked when big Sav was coming towards the end of his career and didn't back their ability to draft a decent player.
But now of course it's all academic , Thommo's knees gone, he'll stuggle to come back, cause face it mental strengh isn't his forte.
And the Roos drafted very, very well ,as you pointed out to me last week... Edwards pick 560, Cambell 1006, Adams 2015, Swallow 37, gees Rand see what you can achieve with draft picks , themore you have the more chance you have of getting it right.
ps i think its great we have intersaters willing to part with their hard earned for the roos .That won't get the chance to go to many games , good on ALL you non Vic supporters. |

So its Thommos fault that the gameplan was to concentrated towards him?
And in 2005 we concentrated our gameplan on him so much that Sav kicked 43 goals 28 behinds
Shannon Grant kicked 39 goals 24 behinds
Corey Jones kicked 38 goals 32 behinds
He can stay as long as he holds his marks hey. Such as the 138 he took in 2005 and the 152 he took in 2006
Harvey is good overhead but can he mark the same kicks that Thommo takes at full strength?
Its strange how even with the change in gameplan from an attacking one in 2005 to one that was based on keeping possession that Thommos input increased in kicks, handballs, marks and goals. |

Well it's not personal, i'm sure he's a great bloke and i do mean that.
But he;s not a Shinboner, he will have played alot more games for the Hawks than he does the Roos.
Unlike big Sav who also played more for the pies, but they gave him the flick and he turned it around..... that's the Kangas way.
But even if i took of my emotional hat, i would say we function better without him, the opposition don't no who to cover... Brown, Jones, Harvey , Grant, EDWARDS, and Hale ( i put him in to keep you happpy) lol Since his arrival , we became very easy to read, keep Thommo covered and you go along way to beating the Roos, but now we have far to many goal kickers for the other teams to cover. I wasn't even going to mention Campell , Swallow and Wells .
I understand your view, that you need talls to win the flag, true but what if you have Meds/ smalls that play tall. Even Harvey the smallest of the small is very good overhead.
He's out of contract (Thommo) at years end, i think it will be interesting what they do with him, Hale and Moran.
Laidley admitted it'd not really working for Hale up forward , G.Healy reckons he's a great ruckman, but not a key forward. What will they do with him???
Thommo will probably stay, i don't really mind as long as he holds his marks. That is the difference Edwards has made |

Alot of good folk are now saying the Roos might make the 8.
I think most Roo fans just want to see the boys have a red hot go each week. If they win great, if not no probs.
Although i reckon the North boys would love to play that game against the hawks again.
J.Smith to get the Norwich Rising Star award this week??? |
