I agree as well, I like to look at the horses in the mounting yard.
Channel nines coverage was so much better.
7 seems to show the horses behind the barriers only and only a couple of the runners are shown, by the time you actually see one you like they are already being loaded into the barriers so by the time you ring up to place a bet it seems to be too late so you miss out, it totally sucks. I reckon they should be more considerate of the viewers.

What ever happened to the horses? I am watching this to get a look at the horses... not celebrities... I don't need to know their tips nor what they are wearing... focus on the main thing... the races and the horses, thanks.

Wow, perhaps I was watching a different Channel 9 in previous years ;), because they sucked too last time they had the rights.

I'm with you channel 7's coverage is terrible!!!
Channel 9 have had the previous weeks of the carnival and actually shown the mounting yard and gone through each runner. Which has given you a chance to have a look at the horses and then place a bet. Today's coverage is rubbish just babbling on about nothing to take up the time.
It's the biggest race day of the year and it should be about the HORSES!!!!!

As an avid follower of horse racing year round, I am very disappointed in 7's coverage of the Spring Carnival.
Other networks show extensive mounting yard coverage, however due to contractual reasons are not permitted to broadcast any live footage into private homes across Australia. I suggest that anyone who actually wants to see some decent coverage to head on down to a pub/club that has Pay TV Racing. As yet, the only look I have had at the horses is a brief glimpse behind the barriers.
I do not want to know what some "B" grade starlet is wearing.
I want to know what the horses I am keen to back look like in the mounting yard.
Why cater to the minority who only watch 1 day of racing a year??
C'mon channel 7, this is what horse races are about- HORSES!!

Nine's coverage, for the short time they had it, was dreadful, and one of the reasons why was because they'd show a horse or three in the mounting yard then get bored and show us a pre-recorded interview instead.

I was relieved to see the Carnival back in 7's hands, but it looks like they've decided to take Nine's approach. Crazy as it sounds, some of us watching are actually interested in the racing itself, not the puffery that surrounds it. If you can't be there, the TV coverage is the next best opportunity to get a look at the horses before the race and get a bet in.

Is it too much to ask that the coverage focus just a little on the very reason this is all happening, ie the horses?
