| There is no doubt in my mind that Tulloch, Kingston Town and Gunsynd were the greatest horses that Ive ever seen and it just happens that they were all trained by Tommy Smith. |

| I'm 39 & have passionately followed horse racing in both codes since I was 10 years old. From my late teens till my mid thirties I participated in ownership, breeding & training of the most noble & gallant creatures on earth. Till this day I remain a reasonably successful hobby punter on the thoroughbreds. I've seen plenty, read much, watched numerous documentaries & videos & listened to much discussion on the equine. Without doubt & without bias I would declare Kingston Town the greatest of all time. YES, that's right of ALL TIME! To be declared a true champion one must demoralize opposition, repeat season after season, excel at sprint, mid- distance & staying. Also be able to adapt to any racing pattern, overcome serious injury & adversity. Kingston Town would at times absolutely annihilate the best opposition going around, most times unextended. What horse in recent history would be allotted 60 kg's in a Caulfield Cup- he ran third on a track he just could not handle. What about being asked to carry 60.5 in a Melbourne Cup- The Diva only copped 58 after she'd already won 2. Anybody that doubts this horses greatness should read a book by Graeme Kelly titled THE KING. Long live the KING & thanks for the memories. |

| Just like in all sports people often rate their favourites as beng the best or one of the best but fail to realise or acknowledge their bias! Im 32 and have seen the greats of years gone by and have also seen much footage, have read and heard about the greats of the past, and more often than not one horse is mentioned by fans alike and the experts themselves(trainers and jockeys etc)the one and only Kingstontown! He could sprint and stay, and his record speaks for itself! 2000m was his pet distance though and believe me if he was near the front and got clear no horse could keep up with him in the dash home, due to his top speed, with his long efficient, effortless stride! AS far as gallopers go,he was the epitomy of poetry in motion! Please dont insult his memory by mentioning the like of the Diva,or Might and power and so in the same light as the KIng! Like most of you ive seen all three and to be honest even those two greats if in the same race would just be fighting for second place! The King was in a whole league of his own |

| thank god there are still people around my age, that remember the greatest horse ive ever seen,,TULLOCH..im sorry some of the younger brigade were not around to witness the feats i saw the horse do..some of todays champions are great horses no doubt, but TULLOCH was something i dont think we will ever see the equal of again..Of that era also,,lets not forget the champion shorter distance horse TODMAN,,who we will never know how good he may have been if not for the injury that plagued his racing career.. |

| The greatest i have seen is Kingston town nothing since has matched him , third cox plate win brought a tear to the most hardend of men, Secretariat was amazing in the states and as for pacers nothing has a patch on the mighty Popular Alm, he used to flog his opposition and after coming back from a broken leg flogged the best of em again first up in the Italian cup at the valley, heart stirring stuff, i never saw Moaries Idol trot but saw Scotch Notch win the inter at the valley , she was brilliant |

Good Ba Ba would account for Weekend Hussler at a mile, and at any distance less Sacred Kingdom i reckon would have the edge. Having said that, i have seen Sacred Kingdom have an off day. But not Good Ba Ba...his trainer is just far to astute.
Good Ba Ba is certainly one of he finest milers i've ever seen, and he actually beat Sacred Kingdom at 1400m, though the latter was desperately unlucky. Still..they only pay on the line. |

A N Z World Classifications Committee rated Weekend Hussler with a rating of 122.
Don't take any notice of this. What has he beaten? Mediocre horses that wouldn't win a race in the Northern hemisphere! |

I admit when I first posted here I overlooked her, but I am somewhat surprised that no-one has mentioned the great mare Sunline.
How many Cox Plates did she win?? Two I believe and placed second in another behind another champion whose name doesn't appear on the list either....Octagonal. Not to mention Ocky's son Lonhro.
I know there's way too many to mention. We all have our favourites. Here's some more unnamed that come to mind.
The grey flash...Schillaci.
The tragedy....Dulcify.
The greatest....Phar Lap (although not too many on here has seen him).
The big fellow....Might and Power.
Far too many to name. |
