| I have a good tip for Brisbane today in Race 2 no 18 Facundo Ran on well late last start and drops 2 kg and should be darn close in this field and steps up from the 1200 to 1400 today. Hope he rattles the tin. |

Sandown-Lakeside 15/08/07
I have no idea of track conditions as I write but I see two potential place prospects in a very very tricky mid-week racing field where the handicapping of horses even has me stumped! So think twice before having a punt. Whatever you do, don’t guess… just don’t guess!
Far Horizons (4 y/o gelding) Race 5 – 1200 meters
Has had 6 starts at 1200 meters for two 2nds and two 3rds
July 7 Sandown Lakeside (heavy) he came 2nd of 13 - less than 1 length off the winner.
July 28 Moonee Valley (heavy) he was 6th of 12 - 3.2 lengths off the winner.
Matthew Ellerton will have him in tip top shape. Jockey Chris Symons will ride him.
If it’s a heavy track, Far Horizons should go close.
Only query – Will he be in the box seat when it’s time to make a run?
Bismark’s Dream (5 y/o entire) Race7 – 2100 meters
Having 1st start at 2100 stepping up from 1800meters. Interesting!!!!
Aug 8 Sandown Hillside (dead) - 1800 meters, he came 3rd of 12 – 1.7 lengths off the winner.
His two runs before that were on a heavy track and should be ignored.
David Hayes will have Bismark’s Dream ready (jockey Craig Williams to ride).
If the track is between good and dead, Bismark’s Dream can be expected to fire on all cylinders.
Only query – Will he get the distance?
Personally, I'll decide at race time whether I back them or not.
As a matter of interest, both horses were sired by Scenic… very strange one is a mudlark while the other isn’t! |

<<<<I wouldn't be rushing into a place bet on Apache Cat...>>> by brookdachook
Any horse that can donkey-lick a field like Apache Cat did on Saturday, and without the use of the whip, is ready to win again! He'll get a place, rest assured! |

| I think Marasco might be a better chance in the Caulfield Cup...I don't think the Valley or WFA is really suitable for a G1 Race. |

| Rachmorel what you don't understand is professional punters do make money whilst amateur punters like me and you have more losses than wins. Professional punters have 1. lots of money to put down( $500 to up to $2000) on 1 race. 2. They have a lot of time to study the form 3. Often they mix with other professional punters 4. Play the percentages are choose races where the horse is likely to come in. Actually I heard professional punters avoid the Melbourne cup because there are too many chances. Telephone line appears to be the real deal to me. It may be worthwhile listening to his thoughts. |

| While i agree with you, marasco was pretty good first up The Cat has a great history at distances under 1600 & in the front part of his prep ,so still the cat for me at $1.20 the win with marasco too come to the fore in the cox plate |

| I wouldn't be rushing into a place bet on Apache Cat...Wait and see how many final acceptances (13 Noms)there are first. Some of these early races are small fields which could limit the place betting to first or second. And if this was the case a small field can throw in some strange results...Marasco, Zipping, Pompeii Ruler, Sphenopyhta, Maybe Better, Efficient & Maldivian will be running. You would also think that Marasco & Maldivian would be strong place bets. And history shows that one of these other Cups horse will run a "bottler" first up. Risky business...and I think the Cat will be odds on. |

rachmorrell... we've just seen my_magic_idol tip a horse called Apache Cat for this coming Saturday. Do you know about Apache Cat? Do you understand this is a horse in top form? At his track-work recently, he was the "gallop of the week" and proved his fitness by then coming out and blitzing classy Haradsun (the most valuable racehorse in Australia). Do you have any doubt Apache Cat will be in the top three placings on Saturday?
Now my advice is you withdraw $1,000 from your bank account and put it all on Apache Cat for a place. You should get at least $1.30 for $1.00 back which will represent a 30 % return on your investment.
And I bet when you collect your $1,300 you'll then say to yourself, "Too easy!" |

rachmorrell... how many race tracks around the world have you been to? Do you know just how much money is bet on horses in Australia alone... or even just on just one race, the Melbourne Cup? Racing is one of the world's largest industries of which punters are just one of the stake-holders.
Now to answer your question... 95% of people backing horses don't do their homework. They don't study form or don't study it enough. Many just think it's all pot luck. But for the real professionals like me, we love that... they lose and we win!
Now stop questioning the sport and just have faith and back my tips. I don't expect you to put $500 or $1,000 place bets like I do (unless you want to have serious blood pressure problems) but just bet what you can comfortably afford, and gradually build up from there. That's what I did. Years ago I was a ten bob punter... now I will plonk as much as $5,000 on a top Saturday meeting so as to get at least a 12% return on investment... that's all professional punters are after... a 12% return!
So chill out... plonk $100 place on the nag I tip for tomorrow's Sandown Meeting. See how you cope with the adrenalin rush!
Try telling David Hayes, Gai Waterhouse, John Hawkes, Lee Freedman, etc etc that their horses didn't win because of all the hard work that went into their preparation... but because it was all pot luck, or because the jockeys decided who was going to win, or because of some other bizarre reason that escapes the close scrutiny of the stewards. They'll simply think you have a mental illness! |

rachmorrell... at the time I give my tips, how am I to know some of my tips might end up favourites? You think God talks to me? Get out of here!!!!
If my tips turn out to be favourits it's because they are considered by punters like me to be the horses with the best form. So punters back them.
What I cannot understand is why you keep worrying about whether a horse is a favourite or not. What's your obsession with this?
Just back the my tips and collect your money. |

I shall have a tip fro tomorrow. I've got a sneaking suspicion a horse called Bismark's Dream will deliver a return. I just have to check it out a little more. |
