| It's a race where there are a few chances, so that if you actually like something, you're going to get decent odds about them. |

Pearcyenator....
Staking depends on your commitment and whether you can walk away a loser, or always go chasing your dough.
Place punting on the greyhounds can be a way of getting your drinking money, but you need to be patient, this may mean only 1-2 bets a week........listen to the preview each day/night for late scratchings and bet in these races only[providing there were 8 runners initially].
If i follow a horse it gets 3 chances only, and i double up each time[even if it wins].
An allowance is best, then pick a horse in a good betting race.........and the more you put on the better i feel! |

| Miss Finland is the best 2 & 3 yo filly we have had the pleasure to see in ages. She mixes it with the boys because if you have seen her you would think she is a male. That was a big advantage last year in the Cox Plate because she only got 46.5 kgs. This year she will get 54 kgs and I wonder how much room for improvement there is...she looked pretty matured in the Autumn...couple with the fact she is now a mare which can completely change a horses attitude. I guess we should see if she still has her desire to lift and get over the line in front. Has anyone considered Camarilla as a genuine prospect for the cox plate? |

Aaahhhh, but who starts fave in the Cox Plate?
Early days i know, but who is willing to nominate any early fave now?
Miss Finland - shes special, ill give you that. Haradasun - right up there and Marasco - personally, ill pass on Marasco, Pompeii ruler - always dangerous but wont be anywhere near fave.
Depending on how she (Miss Finland)starts her campaign, what do you reckon, 5/2 - 7/2 the fave on the day if they all come into form quickly? |

Reckon you might be right about Miss Finland.
But, believe me, i've got every idea about how hard it is to find a winner.
And a pessimist is just what an optimist calls a realist, brother. |

only_for_place... you're no jinx... today just wasn't worth the risk. You just stick by me. When I say back a horse just back it. I didb't say anything of the sort for today.
These pessimists have no idea about the difficulty of sussing out the form of the weaker mid week races, and the bizarre handicapping we've been seeing. So sometimes one just has to be wise and stay clear.
But don't despair... the fun is soon to begin with the quality Saturday races coming. Don't let the pessimists and knockers sway you!
Have you got your "little black book"? Mark down Catalan Bay. She's a star.
Also, mark down Miss Finland to win the WS Cox Plate! You won't regret it! |

rachmorrell… I did have a hair cut this morning! But as for me getting a job… no way! While you were working all day, I spent the day at Sandown, enjoying the hospitality in the members’ area.
But tell me… how much did you earn today? $250? $300?
Well, I had only one bet today on the advice of a fellow professional punter who’d been monitoring Catalan Bay… I put $1,000 place on Catalan Bay (Race 1) and got back $1,700.
I’m the first to admit I couldn’t figure out today’s handicapping… and the conditions were just too tricky for me. I said as much in my post late last night. So, today, I decided to just have a fun day instead.
Look... just because I do what I do, I’m not stupid. I don’t just bet for the sake of betting! I recognise there are better fish to catch another day.
Anyway, going back to your sarcasm, so you worked hard at work all day for $250 or $300, while I, instead, had lots of fun at the races, met lots of swell people, and I won $700. Yeah… it makes a whole lot of sense why I should get a job, eh! |

| Not a tip, but did anyone see Ista Kareems win last week in Melb?. Good, solid win, beautifully and patiently ridden and came away under no threat at all, made it look all too easy. This ones a potential group 1 winner (never going to be a champion but he could take a group 1 at some stage)and i cant see why he wont have the Metropolitan as a target. Heres hoping. Just have to sit back and keep an eye on the next 2 starts - where and whenever they may be. |

Mathematically speaking, if a horse is rated as odds on, those odds are obviously assessed for a win. Ergo, the place odds are shorter still and therefore tipping it for a place isnt exactly rocket science.
Im not bagging tele line, its just not my way of punting. Sh!t, the guy makes more money on the gee-gees than i ever will so he is doing something right. However, i went to school years ago with a now pro punter in Ireland and bloodstock consultant for some of the stud farms. The best advice he ever gave me was - "if it cant at least double your money - just shoot it"
If youre happy with it tele - go for it. |

TL isn't a flash form student.
He uses the argument that out of all the horses running on a particular day, he found ones to make a profit out of.
Fair enough.
But, ipsofacto, out all the horses racing, he still can't find a winner.
Just horses to run third.
Whacko.
If that's the way he likes to do things, good luck to him, but I'd be wary about how good a punter he actually is. |

<<<I think Marasco might be a better chance in the Caulfield Cup...I don't think the Valley or WFA is really suitable for a G1 Race.>>>
Apparently even Fred Kersley agrees... |

grry_hart, im with you on the mid week v weekend notion. I wont bet on mid week class races, just too dodgy and i find the form just too erratic, ill stick to the weekenders.
Will be chatting with same mate that gave the tip last week on Friday, so will weigh it up and see if anythings worth a shot. |
