My guess is that if the Swans only gave us a couple of late picks for the pair of them, it would've still required a decent player to clinch the deal (or that pick 9 we gave to Port).

So I suppose it was Burgoyne or Jolly, both would've resulted in a very good player leaving.

I agree Nye, with Jolly on offer, and us sending 2 players there anyway that would have been a massive coup. I am sure we would have thought of it, the swans must have known something, Jolly might have flatly refused it....why? Who knows

They said earlier that this year's draft was not a focus of the Hawks, so the trades of picks was not a surprise at all.

Kennedy will be missed more than McGlynn, at least Kennedy had al the skills - he will be a top pick up for the Swans.

McGlynn reminds me of Vandenberg, all heart but very limited in skills.

When you look at our best 22, some very good players are going to miss out, Kennedy and McGlynn were right in not sticking around and hoping for a few long term injuries.

You were always going to lose you early draft picks so no real surprise there.

I think the Hawks actually did quite well to land both targets. They should add a lot.

Cant see Williams or Kennedy will be missed and pretty sure burgs easily covers a small hole left by McGlynn.

So no surprises, strengthened the now with 2 quality players which should help making another premiership run. Lost some good youth in Kennedy and McGlynn and no real interest in this years draft.

As i see it pretty much what they hoped for going in.

Trade week wash up Reply to this message
Ok, so at the end of trade week, where is Hawthorn at?

Players -
In: Gibson, Burgoyne
Out: McGlynn, Kennedy, Williams

Draft picks -
In: 39, 46, 58, 68
Out: 9, 25, 41, 89

If I'm not mistaking, that means this draft will give us selections 39, 46, 57, 58, 69 and 73 - so basically we are not too fussed with this year's draft!

Where does all that leave us? I'd say we should be wuite happy. Williams, as a third choice marking forward is hardly irreplaceable - Dowler is probably the man most likely to step in, Thorp to if he's injury free. Then you have Jordan Lisle who could be ready for a run.

McGlynn and Kennedy left for more opportunities, they would've known they wouldn't make our strongest side - Hodge, Mitchell, Burgoyne, Sewell, Lewis, Bateman, Young, Ellis...my mouth is watering!

Up forward we will, again, rely on Buddy and Roughie, Rioli and Ozzie offer decent small options as well. Goals shouldn't be difficult to come by.

Down back is where we should see enormous improvement. Gibson gives that extra KP option, Gilham will hopefully be fully fit, Shoenmakers will be better with experience and a decent pre-season behind him too. Then there's Brown, Guerra and Birchall to give some run.

Let's just say, trade week could've been worse. Though a ruckman may have been worth making a play for - especially as Jolly was on offer and Kennedy and McGlynn were headed there anyway. I think a 3rd player could've clinched a deal there, even if that player was Renouf!
