Hahaha, but we don't play the Dees again! The worst team we play is the Roos next week and the Tigers in round 21. The rest are Dogs, Pies, Cats, Port (in Adel), Saints, Crows and Bombers.
Man, if we win 4 of those it will be a miracle!!!! (including the Roos and Tigers).
I think a 10 win finish is as good as we can hope for - sad, given we managed that in half a season last year!
Oh well, a half decent draft pick awaits! :P
On the plus side, we can look to get some things right for 2010 now. |

most guys do seem to recover from corkies during the week, unless it is a really bad one. And you would hope Dew and Gilham would be ok with an extra week off.
nikki, I'm not ruling the Hawks out, I don't know if they could make top 4 but if they can get back to playing like the hunter as they did last yr no reason they couldn't win the rest of their games, they just need to stop making silly errors that result in cheap goals to the opposition.
The other thing to try might be to get Franklin playing a bit more up the ground for a couple of weeks and see if getting him a bit more involved in the play that way can help his confidence and the Hawks because he seems to be having a good weeks & then a quitish weeks - even with his 4 goals on the weekend 3 were from the goal square with a couple from handballs, so good work from teammates but not necessarily a strong lead from Franklin. Maybe give him a Richo role to see if he can get some excite into the side. |

this is what was said on the afl report on the match:
INJURIES
West Coast: Nil
Hawthorn: Dew (quad) replaced in selected side by Schoenmakers, Gilham (illness) replaced in selected side by Stokes, Williams (knee), Guerra (corked thigh), Lewis (hip), Ellis (corked thigh)
hopefully that is accurate regarding Gilham and he is right to go next week for the Hawks. |

| This is Rioli's first, and I heard the next day that if he was a runner it would be a 6 month layoff. James Hird said straight away that they need to make sure he is 100% fit before bringing him back, otherwise it could be a continual problem. |

I heard pretty early on it would be 4-5 week out type injury but that the Hawk fans hoped it wouldn't be so, gotta hate it when the doc is right. Hope that this doesn't cost Rioli an AA spot because he was in very good form prior to the injury, good luck to him finding that touch again when he returns.
regarding the *It has also been said in regards to football "what would a woman know"* - isn't that mens response to anything when a woman knows more then they do, when the woman is correct and proves the man wrong? |

i said it here up in the main thread as was bagged for it, "Nikki is being a bit over the top dont you think" i believe was the post....

nikki - has rioli had any history of hamstring issues or is this his 1st injury? He has played every game since getting drafted right, so thinking back to pre-draft period as sometimes people know what sort of injuries the kids have during their last yr or 2 at school/tac cup.
If its his 1st injury of this type they might be playing safe with him and making sure he is 100% before returning to not risk further damage. |

Hawknut was in the olympic stand lower level close to the pocket in the gf,was up close to all those goals the best qt can remember seeing us play and then we outscored them in the last when they threw everything at us
take 1991 as an example i remember dermie saying the eagles were clearly the best in the home and away rounds we were the best in the finals, congrats to geelong for being the best over 22 rounds last year |

| Don't you just love all the Cats supporters saying that we fluked it last year? You'd think they'd be happy that their team has been going so well for the last couple of seasons, when late 2006/early 2007 they were all screaming for their coach's blood. Frankly, if we can't come up this year (and there's always next year) I hope the Saints keep on keeping on and get the flag. By the way, I sat in the Ponsford stand last September and thoroughly enjoyed watching us 'fluke' the 26 point win, just as we had 'fluked' the 50 plus point wins in the other finals! God, I hope we get back to form - last year was just so much fun! |

"we the hole we stole getting to me"
i guess you know i have a difference of opinion, the fact some ppl think this brings a smile to my face, the underdogs winning i just that "WINNING" have heard many a whinge about it and the fact history just like any other year says we won
yes we can go back to back getting those players back will help and they have 10 rounds to build a solid fitness base and get afl match fit, will be tough but our boys are up for it |

The 'we stole it' theorists are getting to me. The Cats only lost 2 games last year, true - but we only lost 5 games!
In the finals we met all 3 of the other top 4 teams, thrashing 3 and 4 by 10 goals and then beating 1 with a dominant second half.
We were well drilled, in form and deserving of the success we achieved.
Back to this year, I agree it is basically a write off. Building to another crack in 2010 is what we should be doing from here.
I think, given the young side we have, that our premiership window is only just starting - we'll be in with a chance for at least the next 5 years and our peak will not be until around 2012 or 2013. Bit like the Saints, look how well they went in 2005, hung in there in 06,07 and 08 - and now they are going brilliantly on the back of experience and tremendous skill.
Fingers crossed the 08 win was not a one-off. |

I spose anything is possible nye,
and i more than anyone would love to see it happen,
but i doubt it very much,
I would however be more than happy with the boys giving 110% every game win , lose or draw.
Time will tell nye but i rekon time is just about got away from us this year.
I would like to stick my middle finger up at the end of the year at the baggers who say crud like we're pretenders, lucky, underseving last year, ect.
that would be a great feeling :-) |

Nikki, what are your thoughts on the Hawks prospects?
Here is the ONLY way I can see us having a real crack at the flag - we get Ladson and Gilham back v WCE, Rioli a couple of games later.
Play a game style that isn't as tiring as the cluster and get some good run into everyone's legs.
Win enough games to get into the 8 - I guess 11 or 12 this year.
Then, hopefully, we are somewhere near our best - and if we are, there is no reason why we can't make the GF from 8th spot.
Let's face it, Hawks at their peak would beat the 5th best side in the AFL. From there it will take wins over 3 of the top 4 sides - which is how we won the flag last year.
I'll clarify that I think this is a very, very, very remote possibility, but we have a bloody good side that is playing bloody awful footy - things must turn around at some stage, right?! |

Barker's bite: Good news on the horizon
6:38 PM Tue 16 June, 2009 | Back
By John Barker
for hawthornfc.com.au
Blog Article Content
OUR club has been the focus of quite a bit of attention this week after our loss to the Brisbane Lions.
But before we get into that, I want to kick things off with some good news for our supporters.
It looks like we are going to have Rick Ladson and Stephen Gilham back sooner rather than later.
Ladson has been recovering from a knee and Gilham has had an injury interrupted first half of the season but both have shown some really good form for Box Hill in the VFL.
Itâs going to be great to get them back and hopefully it is as early as our next game against West Coast but weâre not going to rush them if theyâre not right. From a supporter's point of view it is going to be a real bonus to have them back.
But the best news to come out of the Club is that Trent Croad has started to train with the main group again, which has given the boys a massive lift.
Croady has worked hard to overcome his foot injury and this is another big step in his long rehab.
We are hopeful he will play a role in the second half of the year at some stage. Heâs not doing full training yet but he has stepped into some of the low-level drills. It is great to have him out there and it really lifts the team. |
