Re:Hawks v Tiggers Reply to this message
Sure Richo, the Tigers had a fairly open forward line as a result of Hawthorn putting the pressure on through the midfield.

Therefore, once the Tigers managed a turnover they were able to hit targets in relatively simple scoring spots. They rarely had to take shots from the boundary etc. Unlike Hawthorn.

Re:Hawks v Tiggers Reply to this message
It's funny, a few years ago the Hawks were bagged from all quarters (me included) for not backing themselves and preferring to hand the ball to someone else, over using it, just so it wouldn't be them that made the mistake that led to a turnover (which inevitably happened!).

Now, the boys are that confident they will gladly back themselves. And why wouldn't Buddy and Willo have a shot from the flank? Buddy drills these shots regularly and Willo is the most accurate forward in the game - he's just working his way back in at the moment and has missed a couple he'd normally kick.

But Clarko has a point. I think we took those shots because we felt 'safe'. This weekend we will play the percentages more I think.

Re:Hawks v Tiggers Reply to this message
from your own boss.........

HAWTHORN coach Alastair Clarkson believes his players need to learn how to look for a better attacking option should they mark out wide, after a dismal return of 22 behinds against Richmond on Sunday.

Clarkson said the Tigers consistently pushed the Hawks out wide in their attacking half during the MCG clash, and criticised his players for attempting to score rather than centring the ball.

"We were forced wide pretty well because of their numbers behind the ball, and that was good play by Richmond and it is something we need to work on," Clarkson said, after the two-goal win.

Hawk boys are a bit selfish?

Re:Hawks v Tiggers Reply to this message
deb and scarpi it appears you are more happy with the stats winning than the 4 points either was as i said before the hawks zone causes the cheap posessions with end result a tiger turnover and less disposal needed for the hawks to penetrate, personally am happy with the points buts if stats do it for you great

Re:Hawks v Tiggers Reply to this message
Terry Wallace said the Tigers had more ball because of the Hawks superior game plan and tactics. He said Hawthorn's 'rolling zones' allowed the Tigers to have as much ball as they wanted in their defensive half, but they couldn't get it inside 50.

The above average inside 50/goals ratio for the Tiges was another result of this - they only really penetrated after a Hawks turnover, this freed up the 50 for uncontested marks.

Hawthorn weren't going to lose the game, but we were lucky that our 'wake up call' still resulted in 4 points (ditto Geelong).

I mean could 26 more disposals be equal to 20 more tackles?

Re:Hawks v Tiggers Reply to this message
Could that be Don because maybe Richmond did have more of the ball, hence the more tackles the hawks would of had to of made.

Your *** ysis (gee now a n a l y s i s is offensive, get a grip yahoo) of these stats is excellent, i think you are spot on.

Re:Hawks v Tiggers Reply to this message
Very even.
From the statistics, it looks like Richmond actually had more of the ball, but couldn't get it to their forwards. Whereas the Hawks got it there, but then the forwards couldn't convert.

Big one that stands out for me is the disparity in tackles.

Re:Hawks v Tiggers Reply to this message
The Tiges entered their forward 50 33 times, scoring 19 times, find me ONE other team that has done this, guess what u wont be able too, no other team has ever achieved this feat. At the moment the tiges are the biggest improvers of 2008.

And yes Nye the Hawks inability to convert nearly cost them the game

Re:Hawks v Tiggers Reply to this message
The fact that Richmond scored more goals, yet lost by 12 points, surely proves which team was the more dominant! Richmond did well to capitalise on their rare chances, where Hawthorn squandered a heap of their frequent chances.

Hawks can't expect to miss like that against the top teams and still win, but I think the occassional 'ugly win' will do the team good.

forget the points scored ...the tigers scored MORE goals than the hawks ...... the points scored were because buddy was always under pressure ..say what you want about the tigers ...but the next time a team scores more goals that the hawks ...may be the day they get beaten???

Re:Hawks v Tiggers Reply to this message
C'mon richo12_12, Buddy was TRIPLE teamed by a disciplined Tigers backline, yet still managed 8 shots at goal. True he failed to convert that onto the scoreboard, but most of his shots were from very difficult positions.

The best part, from a Hawks persepctive, is that they won despite not playing well. I have been wanting to see how they would go without a big contribution from Buddy, and they proved that forward line depth is vital. Roughie came up with the goods and Willo did well also, though he had mostly pocket shots also.

And how good did Cyril Rioli play again!? Only 16 possessions I think, but he was everywhere and put plenty of tackling pressure on the Tigs.

All up, had we converted our chances we would have scored that 8 goal win I tipped. But every side has their off days and I hope the Hawks regroup quickly for Collingwood.

Well done Tigers, in a year or two you will be winning these games.

Re:Hawks v Tiggers Reply to this message
Good post Nye, i have to agree with you not so much about the 47 but everything else seems spot on, all in all it really depends on which tigers outfit comes out to play, the team of the last 2 weeks will put up a hell of a fight (which is all i ask) and the final score will be close, but only if buddy has been shut down (not likely), but if the team that played the woods comes out they will get slaughtered
