Beau Dowler â 29 disposals, 4 marks, 1 goal: Moved around all sorts of positions very well, showing his capacity to cover the ground. Kicked a goal and gathered a career-high 29 possessions.
Tim Clarke â 39 disposals, nine marks, three tackles. Terrific endeavour throughout and was another to pick up countless touches. Put up his hand for senior selection.
Zac Dawson â 9 touches, 3 marks: Played on man-mountain Tom Hawkins and toiled hard. Hawkins ended with six goals for the match and without doubt, took the honours. Dawson was caught out of position a few times and gave away a silly 50m penalty at the start of the final term, killing the contest.
Timothy Walsh â 9 disposals, 3 marks, 25 hit outs. Had another difficult assignment penned against Trent West and Scott Simpson in the ruck, both with a significant height advantage. Battled willfully and managed 25 hit outs, well up on past weeks. Still has to cover for the sideâs ruck deficiencies.
Mitch Thorp â 15 touches, 7 marks: Kicked one goal for the day and looked very dangerous when one-out deep in the forward line. Trouble was, the ball didnât come down all that often.
Alex Grima â 9 possessions, two marks: earnt a recall to the seniors but failed to have a great impact.
Cameron Stokes â 16 touches, 4 marks, 1 goal: Played very well upon his return from injury and got through unscathed. Provided a spark through the middle and up forward and will be very handy for Box Hill in the run home. |

How good does Whitecross look! Interesting that the Lions picked Collier (the guy Hawthorn wanted) instead of Whitecross (a Queenslander), so the expected destinations of the two were swapped.
Collier made his debut for the Lions last weekend and looked VERY good. Hopefully Whitecross makes the step up just as easily. Both look exciting running defenders with a real ability to find the ball. |

Alex Grima â 13 possessions, four tackles, three marks: Played a little up forward and at stages as part of an impressive defence. Kicking, was at times very wayward, forcing a couple of costly turnovers.
Matt Suckling â 17 touches, 5 marks, three tackles: Worked across the half-back line where he was able to set up play with his lethal left foot. Played a couple of risky switches but seems to have found his niche providing the Hawks with drive down back.
Beau Dowler â 16 disposals, four marks, one goal: Kicked a very important goal at the start of the third quarter to keep the Hawkâs momentum ticking. Worked his way up the ground to present on the wing â not normal for him â and gained a few more possessions in the process.
Ben McGlynn â nine disposals, three tackles: Helped the Hawks back into it in the second term with his desperation, quick hands and ball movement, but succumbed to a injury and played little part after half-time, making the victory all the more impressive.
Josh Kennedy â 29 possessions, eight marks, four tackles: Started the game very slowly after a quiet week last week but finished the game as one of the Hawkâs better players.
Zac Dawson â 11 touches, two marks: In his 50th game for the club, Dawson acquitted himself well at full-back and set the example, putting his head over the ball numerous times when Box Hill were behind. Kept his man (Aaron Murray â 102kg) to just one goal, Frankstonâs first goal after a stray handball from one of Dawsonâs own teammates.
Brendan Whitecross â 30 possessions, nine marks, two goals: Very good again, managed 30 touches while given the task of shutting down the Dolphinâs most damaging player, Justin Berry. Also snagged two goals when he went forward.
Tim Walsh â 12 disposals, 10 marks, 17 hit outs. The coaching staff will be impressed with his recent development. He was brought into the side to cover for Box Hillâs ruck deficiencies and played an exc ... |

Box Hill Match Report
Round 11, Frankston Oval
Sunday 22 June
Box Hill made it two wins in a row, reeling in a huge quarter-time deficit for the second time in as many weeks, eventually defeating Frankston 10.9.69 to the Dolphinâs 9.8.62.
Thirty nine points was the deficit at quarter time, and with Frankston running amok it looked as if a drubbing was on the cards.
But the Hawks responded to some stinging words from coach Barry Mitchell at the first break, to come out a different side in the second quarter.
Mitchell was delighted with the comeback but not so impressed with the Hawkâs first quarter.
âIt was another game where we played poorly for a quarter. It was probably no similar to other games this season to be honest. We managed to get ourselves into a position where most times you donât win. It was a good performance but weâve got to stop letting ourselves down with one quarter,â he said.
It was the Hawkâs first consecutive victory since Round 10, 2006 and surely the most satisfying, character-building win for some time. It was made all the more impressive given the rain started to tumble down right on quarter-time.
After laying just four tackles in the first term the Hawks tackled and harassed their way back into the game, finishing that count on top (54-33).
The willingness to pressure and apply the âone-percentersâ was outstanding from the young side, with Mitchellâs words seemingly ringing in the playersâ ears at every contest.
In the second term, Box Hill ... |

Alex Grima â 12 possessions, four marks, one goal. Canât quite settle down in a position. Played in the middle and was moved forward playing alongside Dawson. He looked effective in that role and relishes the hard stuff. His âcrash-and-bashâ style suits the side as the Hawks tend to bomb it long quite often.
Matt Suckling â 11 touches, four marks, five tackles â played on the half-back flank and in the middle. Didnât get into the game but a couple of 60m cross-field balls, lace out to team mates, stood out.
Beau Dowler â 13 disposals, eight marks, one goal. Wasnât given a great deal of service, made more of his opportunities in the second half. Didnât take a forward fifty mark and moved up the ground in search of the ball.
Zac Dawson â 12 touches, three marks, one goal. Played on young gun Scott Gumbleton for patches curtailing his influence but stood out when moved forward late. It isnât the first time that move has been made and he certainly doesnât look out of place. He crashed a few packs and shouldâve had two goals. He tended to draw Bendigo defenders as well.
Brendan Whitecross â 16 possessions, five marks. Looked to be playing himself into form. Was very good in the first half, probably the Hawkâs best but drifted out of the contest as the game wore on. Heâs now strung three or four positives games together though which is a positive sign for him.
Timothy Walsh â 14 disposals, nine marks, two goals. Played reserves and could get a chance in the seniors in the coming weeks. He looked very capable up forward. Won a number of one-out contests and showed that he has a strong pair of hands. |

Box Hill Match Report
Round 9, Monday 9 June
Box Hill City Oval
The Box Hill Hawks fell 35 points short despite a desperate effort in the last quarter, going down to the Bendigo Bombers 18.11.119 to 12.12.84 in the sidesâ Queenâs Birthday clash on Monday.
The Hawks trailed by just 10 points midway through the last term and had all the momentum but just couldnât finish the job.
The Bombers were visibly rattled, with Box Hillâs intensity at the man increasing in the last term. Zac Dawson was thrown forward late and took a soaring mark, but in what looked a bizarre decision, was called by the central umpire to play on which resulted in a ball up.
If Dawson had slotted the regulation goal from five metres out the margin wouldâve been cut to four points, instead the Bombers kicked away for an easy 35-point win.
The loss extends the Hawks run without a win to 16 games, with the draw against Frankston in Round 19 last year the only exception.
It also means the Hawks have won just one home game since Round 19, 2006.
Hawks coach Barry Mitchell admitted his side wasnât good enough but questioned the lop-sided free kick count.
âIt was 34-17 to Bendigo, thatâs a very (lop sided) count which is frustrating. Iâll have to have a look back at the tape, but as we know you canât comment about the umpires.â
âWe got five goals behind and we came back to a couple of goals, then there was a costly free kick behind the play, I didnât see what happened, but it went against ... |

Garry Moss â Didnât have a great day matched up on former Hawk Brett Johnson at stages in an interesting clash but was stitched up. Didnât kick a goal.
Brent Renouf â 13 disposals, six marks. Probably lost out in the end to quality ruckman Peter Street but his movement around the ground and strength for a player whoâs just turned 20 was and has been outstanding all year.
Alex Grima â Kicked a great snap goal in the third term and seems to have found his niche up forward in recent weeks. Still needs development.
Mitch Thorp â Was used in defence again and played mainly on Jason Cloke who kicked only two goals. He looks quite comfortable down back but could easily play out his career as a key forward.
Beau Dowler â Seven disposals, four goals. Was the Hawks only target up forward after Digby Morrell drifted out of the contest. Was very effective with the touches he got kicking four goals but poor delivery from the midfield didnât do his game justice.
Zac Dawson â Played on old team mate Matt Little for periods of the game and had little of the ball. Dropped a crucial mark midway through the third quarter to stunt Box Hillâs momentum. Little probably took the honours with his four goals.
Brendan Whitecross â 23 touches, four marks, one goal. Was impressive in the middle and is beginning to find some consistency as he consolidates his role. Looks like he has all the qualities of a good midfielder: physique, pace, strength and a penetrating right foot kick. His disposal often stood out amongst the other Hawk midfielders.
Matt Suckling â Suckling was given a rare senior start as a result of the Hawkâs growing injury list. He didnât get a great deal of the ball, probably 10-15 touches but his long, low raking left foot looks quite the weapon. |

Hawks in reserve
Tom Murphy â 28 touches, eight marks. Started very well and straightened the Hawks up at CHB providing great drive through the middle as well. Drifted out the game as the day worn on but a positive return from injury overall.
Garry Moss â 18 possessions, six marks. Looked lively at stages and gave Box Hill that little bit of polish but had a dirty day in front of goal registering just the four behinds.
Cameron Stokes â 8 touches, two marks, three goals. Didnât get a great deal of it for the two and a half quarters he did play but was very damaging when he got the ball. Ended with three exciting goals before leaving with a serious hamstring twang midway through the third quarter.
Josh Kennedy â 24 disposals, two goals. Had another solid outing, his form has been as consistent as any player in the side.
Brent Renouf â 13 disposals, 27 hit outs. Had his fair share of hit outs but didnât do a great deal around the ground. Still, 13 touches in anyoneâs language is serviceable for a ruckman.
Tim Clarke â 27 touches, seven marks, one goal. Another hard working game from Clarke, heâs yet to put in a bad performance and may get a look in at Hawthorn if injuries and suspension permit.
Alex Grima â 11 possessions. Didnât make his mark in the first three terms but had an impact when thrown forward in the last. He took a couple of great marks and proved a handful for the defenders.
Mitch Thorp â 13 touches, eight marks, one goal. Was used in defence, the ruck and up forward. Battled hard and showed signs his development is on track. Needs to find more consistency and may still be a little way off a berth with Hawthorn.
Beau Dowler â six possessions, three marks. Failed to trouble the scorers and did next nothing. Dropped the simplest of chest marks at a crucial stage giving up what would have been a certain goal. Has played very well in a couple of games this season â last week springs to mind, but is woef ... |

Very good RBrown but there is one very important detail that you failed to mention in both your posts, and it is a vital stat too:
But what are friends for i will do it for you:
First Post: Sandringham 25.14.164 def Hawks 11.10.76
Second Post: Tigers 11.13.79 def Hawks 10.7.67
Thats 0 from 5 for them, i guess you just have to pray that your seniors get no injuries. ;-P |

Hawks in reserve:
Jarryd Morton â Kicked the Hawks last goal to keep them in the contest. Used the ball a lot better but didnât have his usual impact. Had 23 disposals, seven marks and laid five tackles.
Beau Dowler â Very good in the first half. Led up well and looked dangerous inside 50. Somehow didnât kick a goal and drifted out of the contest in the second half. Had eight possessions, took seven marks and kicked one behind.
Josh Kennedy â Probably been the Hawks most consistent player to date. Brought other players into the fray but still grabbed 23 touches of his own and kicked two goals even though heâs not a noted goal kicker.
Alex Grima â Had just six touches but laid seven tackles.
Brent Renouf â Very good. Took some leaping pack marks and dominated the ruck with 28 hit outs. Also serviceable around the ground with 13 possessions.
Cameron Stokes â Very quiet, handled the ball well in heavy traffic but didnât kick a goal.
Tim Clarke â Was the Hawksâ best player. Ran tirelessly and laid some superb tackles (13 all up). Missed a crucial shot at goal late but finished with 21 touches and nine marks.
Zac Dawson â Solid return from injury, kept Cleve Hughes under check. |

Hawks in reserve
Ben McGlynn â The Hawks best player yet again. Unlucky not to squeeze into the Hawks line up but is the most likely to next get the call up. Added zip and drive from the midfield with his 29 possies and also kicked two good goals on the run.
Garry Moss â Came off in the second term with a suspected dislocated shoulder. Had just the two disposals up until that point.
Jarryd Morton â One of only a few four-quarter contributors for the Hawks. Finished with 20 touches â a few of which were costly turnovers â but kicked three goals and was used around the ground in a number of positions to great effect.
Beau Dowler â Gave away numerous free kicks while attempting to take the impossible mark. Had seven touches and one goal.
Josh Kennedy â Typically gritty performance from Kennedy, one of only a few to win the hard ball. Lead from the front and finished with 26 possessions and laid five tackles.
Brendan Whitecross â Needs to get a little more of the ball but impresses when he does get it. Good overhead mark for a mid-sized player. Played mainly across the wing and had nine touches.
Brent Renouf â Dominated the hit outs with 24 and had 11 disposals for the game.
Cameron Stokes â Made his debut for Box Hill, unlucky to be dropped from the Hawthorn lineup. Persisted throughout the match but was given no time or space for his 14 possessions. Also kicked a goal.
Matt Suckling â Played in the reserves loss to Sandy and one was one of their best players with 27 possessions.
Luke McEntee â Returned from injury through the reserves, had a game-high 31 hit outs, eight disposals and five marks. |
