I think this game will give us a better indication of where we are at than the Dees last weekend.
A trip to Subi is never easy and the Dockers are at least 5 goals better at home. They played well against Collingwood but ran out of legs - hopefully something we can exploit today.
Luke Hodge and Campbell Brown back is a huge boost, especially with Croady injured.
I think Clarko is keen on Robert Campbell spending more time down back - though I think against Sandilands we'd like to get a fair bit out of him in the ruck too. However there are really only two marking forwards in Freo that require covering, so unless they move McPharlin up forward too I think we'll be right defensively. (And McPharlin up forward would allow Buddy, Roughie and Boyle a lot more fredom).
Gilham to take Taz, Browny on Pav. I'm pretty sure Birchall, Ladson and Guerra have the class to cover Johnson, Schammer and Farmer also.
It is in the midfield that this game will be won and lost. Hodge to add to what was a fluent and hard running side last week is a great thing. Mitchell, Bateman, Dew, Young, Sewell, Ellis etc are young, fast and talented. Freo have been accused of being old, but the likes of Headland and the Carrs are classy and will not make it easy for Hawthorn.
If we hold our own in the ruck and get quick movement into the forward line then we will win easily. But I don't think it WILL be easy, Freo are a side that warrants respect - especially at home. |
