I don't think anyone should get government funding for sports. Especially olympic athletes. If you can't preform well enough to be a fee-drawing contestant you should fall by the wayside. Darwinism should apply to sport more than any other field of society. The Strong, Charismatic Skilfull athletes survive because people will pay to see skill.

i thought a golf tournement was 72 holes - not 71. And for Mickelson to say he lost it was the height of arrogance - what about Furyk and Montgomerie. Ogilvie parred the final 4 holes. The others didn't. These Aussies are the best sportspeople on this planet seeing as there's only 20 million of them. Count up the medals in the Olympics. They rule!

Ogilvy's last downhill putt showed to me he deserved to win. He withstood the pressure while Monty and Mickelson couldn't.

Yeah I agree with you Ogilvy has the game and now I believe the temperament to be a multiple Major winner. He has it seems removed the mental mistake of allowing 1 bad shot to effect the next 2 or 3 shots. That is so important especially in the majors where pressure and the hardness of the courses are inevitably going to bring on mistakes.

Hi bs how you doin mate?
You're right about majors being lost more than won just ask Jack Nicklas. Of the 18 majors he won, at least half would have been because others folded and he didn't.
His normal thing was to be par to 2 under for the back nine. A notable exception was the 1986 Masters when he shot 7 under from 13 to 17 to beat Norman by 1 shot
The greatest back 9 at Augusta 4 4 3 3 3 3 2 3 4 stunning!!

Great! Hows it going pejon60? I was dissappointed to see Greg Norman pull out of the senior US Open, the Open and the Senior british Open. I expect to see Ogilvy contend at the british, I believe he can win 3 or 4 majors. |

Oglivys was hardly a fluke! Monty and Mickelson definitely were very generous, but he put himself in position. The great Nick Faldo won at least 3 or 4 majors becuase the other guy folded.

Yes, h e benefitted from Mickelson's charity. But, "fluke"? Johnny Miller said more than once that many pgatour players he polled felt Ogilvy would win. It takes a lot of game to make pars on holes 69-72 of the US Open.
