Golf: Cambo's horror round at Masters
5:00AM Saturday November 24, 2007
By Bernie McGuire
New Zealand golfer Michael Campbell emerged with his worst score in three years to plummet to the tail of the field on the second day of the Australian Masters in Melbourne yesterday.
Campbell carded a horror round of a 12-over 84 for an 11-over tally on the Huntingdale course to miss the halfway cut in a tournament he won in 2000.
Campbell's round included a pair of triple bogeys, a double bogey, five bogeys and one birdie.
It's Campbell's worst European Tour score since a final round 86 in the 2004 Heritage event at Woburn in England.
Leading the tournament is Australia's Robert Allenby. Yesterday he shot four under to go nine under for the tournament, a shot clear of countryman Aaron Baddeley.
Campbell had arrived at Huntingdale this week looking to end more than a two-year winless drought since claiming the 2005 HSBC World Match-Play Championship.
He's no stranger to the famed "Sandbelt" course having won the Masters seven years ago and he ignited hopes of being fitted with a second gold jacket when he moved to within a stroke of the lead with four holes to play yesterday.

AdvertisementBut it all began to turn sour for the former US Open champion when he double bogeyed the 18th.
He started yesterday's round of the co-sanctioned event with four straight pars before back-to-back bogeys at his fifth and sixth holes.
But Campbell then double-bogeyed his seventh hole after going out-of-bounds with his drive before eventually making the turn in 41 and five over par.
As of another bogey on the 12th wasn't bad enough, he triple bogeyed the 14th and 16th holes.
Campbell eventually ended his round with a birdie on the 17th and then a bogey for 84 and a share of second-last place on 11-under.
Waiting for him as he walked from the course w |

| I wasn't going to write any more threads on MC, but you guys are the limit. He's a gifted golfer, and a credit to NZ. He's only won about 570,000 Euros this year, which is about half a million more euros than anybody writing these blogs. Of course, NZR will find something to whine about. |

Hey Ron, have you got your foot out of your mouth yet?
Seriously, if MC had shot a decent first round, it could have been very interesting huh?
Roll on the next match. |

Hey Ron a few years ago you would have probably said Bangladesh is an embarrassment to cricket and they shouldn't play!
And what’s the matter you think he may win in Singapore!
You must be sad, as you must have noticed less and less people comment on your rants anymore, you may actually have to go out into the real world and make friends! Scary! |

| Dont you love these press releases. Seems everybody now realizes just how pathetic your "bro" is. For god sake Michael retire will you. Just to confirm, he wants to miss the end of season european tour to play in singapore. He forgoing his chance to move up the order of merit to take the money and run. what a disgrace he is. The question is why on earth would any one pay MC appearence money. He should pay them to even let him in the field. |

With Steve Strickers win at the The Barclays, it ended an 11 year span for a win on American soil.
He is now 3rd on the U.S money list, 2nd in the FedEx Cup points, ranked 5th in the world and has made over 4.5 million in 2007 so far.
I so glad you didn't give him any advice Ron you prat! |

| Ron, I've got to admit, if Campbell was a horse, he'd be in the knackery by now. He's a good golfer, but inconsistent, and I won't be writing any more threads about the guy. Have a drink on me. |

Golf: Campbell out of European Masters
5:00AM Sunday September 09, 2007
Michael Campbell
Michael Campbell's indifferent form this season continued to snowball yesterday when he crashed out of the European Masters with rounds of 71 and 75.
The score left him with a four-over par tally on the Crans-sur-Sierre course in Switzerland. It is the eighth occasion in 22 European Tour events this season that the former US Open champion will not have played all four rounds.
However, Hamilton's Steve Alker remains in contention, with a second round 66 leaving him one-under for the tournament.
Campbell had moved into a share of second place at three-under par through 15 holes on day one but played the next 21 holes in four-over par. Thursday's round was spoilt by a double bogey on the 16th, while yesterday's round, played in superb conditions, was ruined when he posted a double bogey after finding a greenside water hazard at the ninth hole.
In a similar vein as day one, Campbell then proceeded to drop a shot straight after recording the double bogey.
Alker capped his round with a hat-trick of birdies from the sixth hole before holing a four-metre putt for eagle at the par-five 14th.

Advertisement"I played very well and just managed to get on a roll after my birdie at the sixth," Alker said.
"Conditions were ideal for scoring in the morning and I just took full advantage.
"It's nice to have bounced back from missing the cut last week in Scotland and hopefully I can shoot two more sixty-sixes over the weekend."
England's Oliver Wilson heads the event by a shot on 11-under par from Welshman and defending champion Bradley Dredge. Australia's Brett Rumford is next best on eight-under par.
Italy's pint-sized Alessandro Tadini won himself a one kilogram gold ingot for an ace at the third and Hawaiian teenager, American Tadd Fujikawa, who stands just 152cm tall, was handed an Omega 'double eagle' watch after his double-eagle or a ... |
