The Pejon curse:
Tiger even after 7
+7 after 12
He has only mised 5 cuts in his entire Pro career.
However at Turberry in the last 2 days there seems to something fundamentally wrong in the thinking side of things
He was swinging the club beautifully in practice rounds.
What I have seen in the last 2 days reminds me of the last cut he missed at the 2006 US Open
He just doesn't appear to be there mentally.
Don't be surprised if there is more than meets the eye here
Anyway this Open is really starting to warm up
and links golf is still bloody awesome LOL |

I think they way this 2nd round is going that if he finishes even or better after 54 holes he will be way back in it. Steve marino will be in the club house at 5 under but he will leak oil in round 3 or 4
Tiger will be 3 off 2nd and really competing
This Championship is shaping up to be stunning over the final 36

| Tiger has not played himself out of it. However, he will need to shoot 67 or 66 for him to get himself back in a good position. He didn't play a terrible round, but he should of had 2 under. He got robbed on the 15th when his tee shot was just a few yards short of being golden. That was a birdie for him in my mind. Also there is no excuse for him not getting a birdie on the par 5. Tiger had some bad swings on the back 9, but other than that he was putting together a good opening round. If tiger can get his problem fixed for tomorrow and shoot a good round he will get himself back in good position. Another thing to consider is the weather. It is expected to get worse the next few days. Its possible the field could come back to tiger a little in the bad weather. It will get more difficult for people to score well. |

| K.J. Choi.ROFLMAO, you should have got 50/1 for making the cut i reckon. He needs very wide fairways & greens for him to shoot good scores. |

Well that is about the worst I have seen Tiger swing the club since his comeback and yet he got away with only a 71.
He just seemed to want to crush everything! He swung with no control. His tee shot at the 3rd was a perfect example of that! Mind you his iron of the tee at 9 was almost fat.
But i think the shot that summed up tigers round was the 2nd at 16.
you could hit that shot at the left edge of the green and it would kick right and be 2 putts at worst away.
Mind you I guess no one plays continually great golf. You have to throw a bad round in every so often. Woods could have shot MUCH worse than a 71 today.
He shoots 65-67 tomorrow and he is back in the hunt. |

| Whether Tiger wins depends on the weather. In fact Bristish Open has a few unexpexted winners when the weathers turns ugly and Tiger will not win unless the weather is calm and sunny. Just like the recent US Open, Tigers game is out when the weather plays havoc. |

I think Ogilvey is a real good chance
He is in great form this season
with 2 wins on the PGA Tour
He is also a very straight driver...which is premium around Turnberry
I had a game there in 1977 and it is very punishing if you don't hit the fairway
The way it is set up this week there are a few par 4's that will force most of the field to hit driver off the tee. If they don't they will face 220+ yard seconds.
In a way that plays to Tiger's strengths. He is very long and accurate with his 3 wood (Hits it 280-90 yrds)and he is so long with his irons that 220yrds is a 4-7 iron for him depending on the wind direction.
The thing that is against him really is the fact that there are only 2 Par 5's, one each side. Tiger plays Par 5's better than any man who has ever played the game. Mind you the 17th is one of them, so it's well placed to be a defining hole
They are setting the course up at 7200 yrds (6500mtres) so its not short
The last 4 holes are very good finishing holes. Fair without being totally brutal like Carnoustie.
So I am excited. This has always been my favourite Major
I love links golf. It is the fairest test of a golfers skills to battle the layout and the weather |

| An unsung wind player is Jeff Ogilvey who in my view may wind up winning. |

Anthard I admire your confidence In KJ Choi and you might yet be proven right However some sobering facts about how he is playing THIS season on the PGA Tour might be handy
His scoring average is only 71.43
He has made 2/3's of the cuts (10/15)
He has only 1 Top 10 finish (a 3rd)plus a 12th & 13th
He is only average in driving accuracy 62.4%
and is struggling with the putter 29.61%
Finally he is 84th in Fed Ex cup points
He has never won a major but he has contended and that does mean something
So I guess if the odds are good enough then a bet might be of value
But that is the beauty of golf. You can be doing nothing and then a switch clicks |

Tiger will go well without a doubt I think the man that will really test him will be K.J Choi he is a bit of the forgotten man.
He is very consistant and is a very accurate hitter/Driver and I beleive that their will be very tough conditions and I belive that an experience player like KJ will be able to adapt and be very successful in this tournament.
For all you betting men, Get on he is at ridiculous odds for Top 10 and 5 and each way, you will get your moneys worth and remeber me when you do!!!! |

Yeah those last 3 are tough
But if you want to find the BEST test of golf in Scotland then look at Muirfield ...unreal!
I was exceptionally fortunate to get a game there in 1977 in the company of a member (It's a private club). The wind wasn't blowing very much and I shot 78
I have no idea how you play the course once the wind gets over 20 kmph though.
If you want to see a phenomonal test of golf here in Oz then have a look at Barnbougle Dunes on the north coast of Tassie....STUNNING!!!! Check out the course on their web site www.barnbougledunes.com.a u
It is one of the finest examples of links golf that you will find anywhere in the world and is one of the best examples of symbiosis of land and course.
I'm playing it again next February and can hardly wait!!! |

| P.S. For a true test of golf, try the last three finishing holes at Carnoustie. |

Braveheart time! Turnberry is the place where Robert the Bruce use to kick English ass for some time. Anyway, it is a course for a wind player and Tiger is one of the better wind players (compared with John Daley when he tried to play in Australian winds) Americans think Texas has big everything but if they ever visited oz they would implode and shut up when they experience what wind is.... If you have ever played Turnberry, it is narrow, somewhat flat and windy and unforgiving if you miss a fairway or land in a fairway bunker. Royal Donarch in Northern Scotland (which is Tom Watson's favorite course is more windy and more difficult in my opinion} My guess is the best windplayer will prevail at Turnberry. This may not be Tiger time this year. Look for a windplayer.
If they really want a course to play for the British Open they ought to try the Carnigie Course at Skeebo Castle and it would be great to see the pros drive the par 4 peninsula green which is the 16th or 17th (not sure).
Pacificric
P.S. By the way, it is too windy to play Tackle Golf at Turnberry and Prestwick would be more suitable due to its hilly and mogully fairways.
Also, I have played Turnberry and I found the most memorable moments were to see the big rock out in the sea and to drink a cold one on the 19th by the fire!
Good luck to you Tiger, but there may be better wind players out there than you! |

Yeah right....rough weeks!!!!!LOL
6th in the Masters
5th in the US Open (copping the worst of the weather)
I bet there is not a single player in the top 125 in the world that wouldn't like to have tough weeks like that! |

There's no way Tiger wins the Open this year. He's had rough weeks after both of his wins.
Also, I just read on ESPN that the Open is "encouraging" players to twitter about their experience (obviously after their rounds). Apparently this site is going to put it all together in one easy to read place...

No worries peen
I actually think if you look at his swing in slow motion it is actually better than before his op.
He has more control. He is also not having to get the pressure of his left knee like he had to in late 07 and early 08
That means he can draw his driver and 3 wood again.
I actually like the new Tiger. He has realised he doesn't have to crush everything. It can be said now that he is truely a shot maker.
Mind you if I was able to get his ear I would recommend pulling the Driver out very little at The Open Championship
Turnberry is not a long course but you HAVE to be on the fairway. Greg Norman won at the course in 1986 and he drove the ball brilliantly that week.
If he hits fairways and greens he will be VERY hard to beat |

Okay make that 3 wins so far this season.... Plus Top 10's in the other 5 stroke events He's played.
He is averaging 228 Fedex Cup points for each event he plays.
But hey seems some think he's not playing like Tiger.
Jesus what is going to happen when he is not "uptight" LOL
He got the absolute worst of the conditions of all the other top 10 in the US Open and still finished 6th
What must be really scary for the other players in the world is that he DOESN'T play the square or U grooves. So when the new rules come into force next year, he won't have to change a single club in his bag.
The players who will have to go back to using V grooves will stop getting the advantage that gives them out of the rough.
If Tiger stays fit until he is 40 I predict he will win 20-22 majors and will have totalled 90 PGA Tour titles (currently he has 68)
But hey that is just my opinion.....and $3 and an opinion will get you a cup of coffee! |

Tiger can win. He has the game, fighting spirit as always and the experience and if he is one stroke back on the last day then you just know he will win. He may not be there on the first 3 days but he'll be in his favourite red on the last day. He is just something special.

I agree with you. TW may not have had his best season (by his high standard) but lot of players would love to have had his record this year. |

| Of course! It's been quite awhile now since he won the British Open, I can tell pretty well how Tiger thinks. He would be thinking, "I think Steve, it's about time we win this, I've given the other guys a chance of their lifetime to win the British Open". Without Tiger, every golf tournament is boring to watch, and that's a fact, the ratings proves it otherwise. |

Dont come on these threads if you cant cope with people asking questions or giving opinions..

For crying out loud the guy has won twice this year
Plus he has finished top 10 in EVERY stroke event he has played.
So can he win the British Open?
Yes of course he can
Will He win it?
Who the hell knows
But I'll tell you one thing that is gold certain...He will there or there abouts going into the last 9 holes!!! |

But Phil
Do you think Tiger is in good enough form to Win The Open?
He hasnt looked good since his operation. Not the swing he used to have.. Not relaxed as you would expect..
He also appears uptight in his manner... Never used to be.. |
