| incey, agree about Hawkins, he hasn't had a great couple of weeks but we need to give him game time. I would give him a couple of more games, the 2 games in the West either side of the break to see if having that week off freshens him up because he might just need that as he is still developing. He didn't get a full preseason so that might hurt later in the yr |

Prismall left because he wanted more game time - in his 3 yrs at the club he had 3 injuries that sidelined him more then others keeping him out of the team. Broke his arm on debut but he played 8 games that yr (debut yr of 06), in 07 he played the 1st 5 rnds was dropped to the VFL and broke his wrist and he returned in time for the VFL finals but who would you have kicked out of the Seniors side for him? And last yr he was a member of the seniors and he would have played the g/f if he didn't do his knee. He had a sh!t run with injuries that limited his opportunities at the Cats, not his skill level or others keeping him out.
As for Nathan, he never wanted to play AFL level footy, he liked playing with his mates in the local comp away from the cameras, its why he was drafted from a local team and not a TAC or VFL team. It took Gary a few yrs before he would do an interview, its the way the family is. Nathan is very much like his dad, he is a brilliant player but didn't like the media side of things and in the end that is what got to him. Whether we won or loss the g/f that yr Nathan wouldn't have played on, he didn't have the drive for it which is a pity because he could have been a fantastic player.
But I must say, I am really impressed how the Cats have covered the injury losses this yr. On the weekend playing without Egan, Hunt, Chappy, Ottens & Corey, there we have 3 AA members and 2 club b&f winners but we still win, what an effort from the side. Our young kids are standing up and doing what they are asked and really putting the pressure on a few senior guys to make sure they perform each week. Pity Simpson & Brown are both out at the moment because they would be getting game time in the fwd line. |

| Let's face it the only sign of arrogance has come from a team who won the flag last year and let it go to their heads dropping 5 out of 10 games for the start of the 09 season. Hawks could have been a legitimate threat if they had kept themselves grounded like that cats. Disrespect for other teams by the Hawks has undoubtedly cost them. |

i think geelong supporters arrogance is what places them below others when it comes to premiership
a lack of respect earns well lets face it a runner up medal,u had ablett in tears because he didnt win the brownlow or norm smith and mrs mooney was just about choking 90% of the game on 177cm campbell brown
on topic i wish the boy well of course |

Lack of depth coming from a hawks supporter? LOL!
Lets see at points this seasons we have gone without:
Ablett, Chapman, Ottens, Harley, Ling, Mooney, Milburn, Stokes, Corey, Hunt, Egan just to name a few and we have not dropped a game 10/10
As for the phony Premiers they are what? 5-5!!?? I think the only honest thing for the family club to do now would be hand back the medals for a completely inadequate season which has clearly shown not only a lack of depth but a complete lack of skill. |

Well... I was impressed with Nathan. Not a great deal of touches, but when he was near the ball he tackled hard and had no qualms about getting right into it. Tom Hawkins seemed slow and hesitant. He does have moments of great footy ! I still think he just needs time and experience.
Thats just my opinion anyway lol !! |

| I get sick of people who say the Cats have a dud with Hawkins & question if he will be traded at seasons end - you have to work out if they think he should be traded cause he is a dud or because they want him. I have no issues with the way Hawkins is progressing, its his 3rd season and he has had injuries the past 2 yrs, not sure if he has even had a full preseason. As his body gets stronger & he matures he will develop into a very good player, he may not be the best ever which won't worry me, as long as he is the best player he can be. |

I too wish him well when he makes his debut with the big boys, but wont expect too much at this early stage. I think way too much is expected of our younguns too soon and then our disappointment rattles their confidence. Hawkins is still trying to get it together, and with time I believe he will. Selwood is a freak and had it together from day one, but they are few and far between. Just grateful he plays for us lol !!!
Good luck Nathan !! |

| Who do people think will line up for the Cats this rnd - Chappy & Stokes def out, question marks over Gamble & S. Johnson. Mooney to return with Lonergan, Milburn & Byrnes to pass fitness tests to return to the side. Will we see Djerrkura debut, what about Hogan returning for his 2nd game? |

"He's similar to a Travis Varcoe in his ability to break a line and explode out of a contest. He also makes very good decisions (with the ball) as a rule," Amos said. "His defensive skills are excellent.
"He's fairly solidly built, he's got a good physique for being over the footy, and he doesn't mind winning his own ball."
Djerrkura has averaged around 26 disposals playing mainly in the midfield, with his tackle and contested possession count up on previous seasons.
Amos puts the improvement down to Djerrkura's willingness to get himself to more contests.
"In the past he's been damaging when he's got it - now he seems to be able to get to the right spots and he's certainly getting a lot more of the ball," he said.
Djerrkura played some promising cameo performances in the NAB Cup, but has had the bulk of his early years at Geelong cruelled by quadricep injuries.
Balme believes it is crucial to give game time to the club's up-and-comers.
"We need to play them so that when they're needed they've had the experience," he said.
"It's been terrific to be able to play David Johnson recently, who's been threatening for two years."

can't wait to see Djerrkura get his chance to play, be nice to see him get his shot this weekend |

THE phone call to trigger celebrations in schoolyards across East Arnhem Land is closer than it has ever been.
Nathan Djerrkura - hero among footy-mad Northern Territory communities Gove and Groote Eylandt - is in the selection mix for his AFL debut as injuries and suspension hit the Cats.
The 20-year-old, originally from Gove, has achieved career-best statistics in the Cats' VFL midfield this season and according to the club is a "genuine chance" to break through for his debut.
Djerrkura's mum, Jenny, said media hype in the Northern Territory about his debut had made her son water-cooler talk.
As of yesterday, she hadn't received the call from the club that will see her on a plane bound for Etihad Stadium for Sunday's Cats v Bombers clash.
But even if the call doesn't come this week, she knows it isn't far off.
"There's a bit of a push up here - we want our boy to play," she said. "He's certainly been one of the best on ground for quite a number of weeks now in the VFL.
"It's a huge thing for the kids at school up here - Nathan's their hero. Whenever he's back there (Gove) he's always out on the footy field kicking around with them and trying to encourage them."
Geelong football manager Neil Balme confirmed yesterday Djerrkura, along with Simon Hogan and Kane Tenace, were in the selectors' thoughts after strong VFL form.
Forwards Paul Chapman (hand) and Mathew Stokes (suspension) will miss Sunday, while Ryan Gamble is in doubt with concussion.
Shannon Byrnes (hamstring), Tom Lonergan (calf) and Darren Milburn (ankle) will all face fitness tests, but Cameron Mooney is available after serving a one-match suspension for striking.
Cats VFL coach Dale Amos said Djerrkura has found a "nice balance in his game" this season based on speed and ball-winning ability.
"He's similar to a Travis Varcoe in his ability to break a line and explode out of a contest. He also makes very good decisions (with the ball) as a rule," Amos said. "His defe ... |
