| bcv get over it mate! The cats are a fantastic team and its supporters are the fairest minded and most honest of all but if you think that was just a hiccup. . . mate you are kidding yourself! Don't get me wrong, Geelong are still the league yardstick but they are NOT the invincibles they have been painted to be anymore and the whole league knows it now. Yes the cats had a downer and the pies caught them on the hop and yes the margin was flattering but you don't seem to understand what happened there. A new tactic has been used for the first time, teams have been tackling fanatically before or trying to but once they win the ball they get frightened of giving it up and play too conservatively. When the fanatical tackling of the pies won them the ball, instead of chipping it around in the hope of not giving up possession the pies stormed into attack as fast as it was possible to transfer the ball, giving the much vaunted cats defense no time to readjust. Now we all know bomber is no fool and will come up with a counter but the fact remains that the league has been playing Geelong's game for a while now, but that will have to change because the competition has now devised a way to counter bomber's brilliant tactics he will now have to change his tune a bit so the cats will come back to the field somewhat, though still flag favourites, the pack IS closing and if you don't accept that you could be in for a few disappointments in the remainder of the year. That said congratulations Cats for a super new brand of attacking football, just remember that Carlton won the '70 premiership with a brand new tactic, handball at all times and Hawthorn did the same a decade or so later with their running half back line flowing down the ground to overwhelm oppositions - they both came back to the field when a counter was found, now its up to Bomber and your brains trust to modify the plan. |
