*Through an agreement with the club, Egan’s current contract has been terminated and he will be re-signed as a development coach.*

seems that he agreed to terms and is staying at the club, not sure too many players would agree to coach a side they just got delisted from.

Re:Mark Thompson Reply to this message
what injury cloud for Chappy?

And you mean that even when the medical staff gave Chappy the all clear to return to the field, Bomber said no and had him sit out the remainder of the game even though it was close towards the end and would have been nice for him to be out there.

and to let ya know brownoz -

* “I think Paul Chapman will play next week and I think James Kelly will play next week and Brad Ottens will play in the VFL tomorrow night and hopefully he has a great game and gets through and we put him in the team. Then Steve Johnson plays [and Tom Harley] and we are up and about.

“We are capable of doing it and we are optimistic that we can.â€

Chapman left the field in the second quarter with hamstring tightness and while the club doctor gave him the okay to return, the coaches decided not to take the risk.*

And don't forget that Ottens had 14 possessions, 43 hitouts, six clearances and seven tackles as well as kicking a goal in the VFL on the weekend. Not bad for a guy who you think has a limp.

Re:Mark Thompson Reply to this message
incey i wish i could say this incident for isolated but the past speaks for itself and the present appears almost worse
looking at stevie j he looks like he would be more comfortable in a retirement home than a football field
brad ottens now has a permanent limp
chapman well yes as discussed
hayley well he is just soft,i wont blame bomber for him though mark's judgement in making him captain isnt his best decision

Re:Mark Thompson Reply to this message
Most of the Cats players were already undergoing other options for work after AFL life - Chappy and a few others are working towards becoming builders, Ablett was interested in relestate last yr and looking into that. The fact that Egan has given himself something to fall back upon is smart - better then walking out of the game with no career to step into.

Regarding Hunt - Hunt even admitted that the injury could have occurred at any stage, in any game or even in training. The positive to take from it is that he will miss this season but be back stronger & better for next season after he gets a full preseason under his belt. Better then doing his knee middle of the yr and not getting a full preseason under his belt next yr.

You still haven't answered the question as to how Bomber has put Otten's career as risk by bringing him back too early. Ottens didn't play after the injury, he hasn't trained since the injury - he has been on the sidelines waiting for the swelling to go down in his knee before he started doing anything. The swelling wasn't going down, so Ottens along with the medical staff (nothing to do with Bomber) decided to have the arthroscope now, get his knee cleaned out & have him on the sidelines for the same length of time that he would have been anyway. The surgery hasn't extended his time on the sidelines, nor has it been done because he pushed too hard - if anything it means he will be back quicker then if it didn't have the surgery & will put him in a better position for the finals.

If you honestly believe Bomber puts players welfare at risk, look at how he has handled the Harley situation. Harley was considered a 50/50 chance to play on Sunday and he was pretty positive he would play. Instead Bomber decided to not play him this week, wait until he was 100% so that once he does play this yr he will continue to play - that he won't be in & out of the side. Something Bomber does with most of the guys.

Re:Mark Thompson Reply to this message
i guess the croad question mybe better served in the hawks thread if u feel its warranted
bomber so far has egan to answer for who now realises he is more suited to nailing timber than on a football field while hunt was sacrificed for bombers ego for nab glory this despite the obvious need to concentrate on the premiership season
with regard to ottens he may one day return but the risk he has been put under from bomber will have ever lasting effects on morale,i hope one day the aflpa have an enquiry

Yes I agree, what Clarkson did to poor Croad is horrific – he really should be investigated and possibly have criminal charges laid.

Re:Mark Thompson Reply to this message
I also like this assessment of Ottens - kinda interesting when ya read the truth:

*"He’s four weeks [away]. He had a little arthroscope last week because his knee wasn't healing as well or as quickly as it should have with the swelling, so he had a clean-out," Thompson said.

"It's not going to lengthen his time away from the game, it's just something that they did, and he'll be four weeks away."*

Seems that nobody has done anything wrong regarding Ottens.

Re:Mark Thompson Reply to this message
This might be a stupid question - especially considering that brownoz raised the issue to start with - but at what point did Bomber rush him back? Ottens has been on the sidelines since his injury, he didn't go back on the ground after he injured his knee that game & he hasn't done any training. The surgery was just a clean up, an arthroscope that he decided to have since he is already on the sidelines - it was Ottens decision to go in for a clean up as he didn't feel right about his knee, nothing to do with Bomber. Basically, instead of him being back in 2 weeks he will miss a further 2. Considering that the initial belief when he did hurt his knee during the game was that he would be gone for the season, and then the though of up to 10 weeks, missing 6 or so weeks seems like a pretty good outcome to me. Also, if it means he is fit for the end of the season then it sounds good to me.

The other positive from this is seeing West & Mumford get some game time - and things are looking positive for Mumford, the selection panel is behind him & he is going pretty well. Fully expect a promotion to the senior list full time next yr & maybe Westy will be traded - there are a few teams would could want him as a ruck option.

Out of curiosity brownoz - how is Croad coming along? Any chance of seeing him playing in the Hawks colors again or will his next match be in the annual Legends game in a couple of yrs after he recovers from his foot injury?

Re:Mark Thompson Reply to this message
thompson has done it again to ottens this time, despite his team travelling undefeated he rushed him back and now required more surgery placing his career in serious doubt
have no idea why bomber would place such a risk on so many yet apparantly doesnt have to answer for it but maybe the aflpa should have an enquiry into his players welfare, these concerns should be raised

Re:Mark Thompson Reply to this message
going to correct myself - Brown's injury is a break to the fibula. And its not a completely bad thing - gives the kid a chance to spend the yr in the gym to bulk up and then come preseason time he may well be able to put in a full preseason which will be better for him next yr.

and brownoz - until Croad steps foot on an afl ground for a match you have no right to comment on these issues

Re:Mark Thompson Reply to this message
I said on the afl threads that brownoz's 1st post back would be regarding the injuries to Ottens and Brown - I am surprised he didn't put Ottens in his post also.

Hate to tell ya brownoz, but Bomber isn't in charge of the VFL side. Dale Amos is the coach of the VFL team and he says who plays - don't blame someone who isn't coaching the team. His break is the same as what happened to Welsh from the Bombers in one of their intraclub matches earlier this yr - so a freak accident that could happen anywhere.

Also, why aren't you critizing Bailey for the injury to Colin Garland, its exactly the same break in his foot as Egan had. What about blaming Williams for Westhoff breaking his foot playing against the Eagles - surely Williams shouldn't have allowed him to play on such a poor ground as Subi.

Or is it that you just kick the sh!t out of the Cats and no other team? Really doesn't surprise me though - the Hawks are sucking at the moment and the only joy your going to get is kicking a team when they are winning - typical tall poppy syndrome.
