yeah King, they really are putting an emphasis on fitness and performance this year. Have a few bad games and bendigo will be waiting, as there are plenty of talented youngsters that are keen for a good crack at it.
Its a good move i think and there are some good signs from the young guys early in training. Hocking has the fitness to really fit into our midfield this year, winning both 3.2 time trial and repeat sprint test at first testing this year. Bacher Houli and angus mofries were 2nd and 3rd in sprint test, whilst houli 2nd in time trial and stanton 3rd.
Thats good signs that the young guys are already getting their fitness right up to top AFL standard. Hocking and Houli have bigger bodies too so they will really help in the midfield this year.
Other good signs from Jetta and in particular Courtney Dempsey, who had injury worries last year, but is buffed up a bit and right up there in the fitness stakes. He has pace to burn and is going to be really exciting this year i think. A pity its still about 4 1/2 months til the season starts. Cant wait to see these young guys have a crack next year. |

reading today in the newspaper .. Knights has given the players an ultimatum! get to their peak fitness or don't play in '08!
I reckon that is great .. it does appear at times they have been lacking in fitness to run out a full game! |

| remember Gumbleton was only first year and played only a few games. And yes he has Lloyd and Lucas down there who receive the majority of the ball for good reason. In a couple of games though he did present well up the feild and took some good solid marks. I think he is likely to become a good player. |

I am surprised rbrownose hasn't been in here to cr@p on the bombers haha
He has no idea outside of his club and even then he glosses over his own team to overlook all the bad stuff!
I hope they go for the speedy exciting brand and not the dull stuff some of the top teams have dished over the past few years! Play similar to how Geelong played!
I am not sure about Gumbleton it seems he is a bit lost on the field dunno if that is cos he is competing with Lucas for the same role. Hopefully Knights will give him some direction and show more of his potential. He does look like a good player.
Lloyd will kick his normal bagful this up comming season! |

| Yeah King. It does look pretty exciting doesnt it. I have a feeling they are going to play a speedy exciting brand of footy. Lots of indiginous youngsters who really do have loads of potential and then plenty of others who were showing signs. Really interested to see how Watson, Stanton, and winderlich and Lovett progress and with a couple of experienced guys to help steady them and lots of other exciting young guys coming through, they may surprise a few midfields. Inexperience will mean they prob wont be consistant though. The key positions look exciting too. Really hope Lloyd continues to get his form back and has a big season. He deserves to finish his career with some of his champion form and a few injury free years to finish off a wonderful career. Lucas will soldier on and just continues to impress me. Hoping that especially Neagle, and Gumbleton get a good crack and they may cause some troubles for a 3rd tall. Then there is Paddy up front or down back, and im sure Daniher will get a look in. |

| i think you would have to agree that i care about essendon issues Rbrownoz. And the contents of that article are pretty spot on with what i have been saying about the dons. Lots of good kids that have the potential and could just surprise a few. This year is an unknown because they will probably be quite inconsistant, but they will probably be pretty exciting to watch at times i reckon. And being a pretty open comp, you never know. But the real aim is for the next 2 or 3 years, when there will be many in the 23-24 age bracket. |

has been a little overrated in recent times and a sense we've got to rebuild our credibility," Jackson said.
"I think everyone's up to the challenge.
"Right now I think the word is bouncing. I don't think it's excitement, but there's certain amount of rejuvenation.” |

ESSENDON CEO *** Jackson has laid out a series of goals to new coach Matthew Knights
Jackson believes the Bombers should play finals in 2009 and “push for top four” in 2010, the Herald Sun reports.
Jackson said Knights, whose three-year deal finishes in 2010, needed to return the Bombers to being one of the league’s onfield powerhouses.
If not, he said, the Essendon’s hierarchy probably shouldn’t remain at the club.
"I will get kicked up the bum I suppose, and Matthew is going to be the first one to kick me for putting a time line on these things, but three years from now, which is 2010, I think you'd expect Essendon to be pushing up to a top-four spot if these kids are as a good as we think they are," he said.
"If they're not then we aren't good judges and we probably shouldn't be there.
Jackson said he expected the younger players to propel the club towards a top-four position in 2010.
"Let's put it into context. It's a very even competition and we've got to be very competitive and pushing up in 2010.
"Everything we're saying about the list, everything we're saying about the young players on the list, everything we're saying about their development, well, you can't say those things and not expect to improve.
"You've got to have some expectations.
"Where do you go before that? You'd probably want to make the finals in 2009, and 2008 I think is going to be exciting, although there's going to be some highs and lows."
Jackson acknowledged the list had some areas of concern, particularly in the 24-28 year age group.
"That shows up with the drafts of 2000 and 2001, they were forgettable and we accept that inside the club, we traded in recent years to try to plug some holes and that hasn't worked, so it shows up right now that gap."
He said while the Bombers were strong off the field, they hadn’t matched that success on the ladder.
"We've been in the bottom four for three years in a row, we've slid, and there's a total understanding that perhaps Essendon ... |
