Agreed fella
Sven's premature problems would be more appropriate in the Michael Vaughan threads |

This is a thread about fast bowling sven, not your premature ejaculation problems. I'm sure there's other forums that you can discuss this in and get help for. :) |

| Thommo was actually recorded as bowling at or around 160 kph during the world series era. It was a competition held at the time by channel 9 between him and other bowlers of the time. |

Wes Hall
Frank Tyson
Andy Roberts - who was very quick 77-78
all would be quicker than Hadlee or Wasim |

| Hi, I believe Sir Richard Hadlee was a legend due to his great bowling control and accuracy and not speed, so is the case with so many great bowlers. Whereas for Thompson, Akhtar, Shabbir and Brett Lee is sheer pace. No one can beat the accuracy and control of Wasim and Waqar but they are not fast as Brett Lee or Shoab Akhtar. I hope you got my point. It is also the one fastest ball bowled, not average. Regards, Kev |

| Kevin, I'm not sure where you got your info from, but if Richard Hadlee is the tenth fastest bowler of all-time, then I'm a Kazakhstani goat herder. |

D.K.LILLEE was up there in his prime also. He was in constant competition with Thommo.
What short memories people have? I remember watching D.K.LILLEE pumped up by the chants of the crowds, pushing off the boundary fence on his run ups. Shame that he was exhausted by the time he got to the crease to bowl. |

| Thommo is sub 145?????? What planet do you come from? He used to bowl off three paces in the nets at club training just so batsmen didnt get injured....and he was still sending em down at 150. How do I know this......I set the bowling machine to replicate the speed he was bowling at - and it was set at 95mph. ( I used to train and work at a well known inner city coaching school in Sydney when I was a youngster - and I played for Bankstown) |

Re:Who is really fastest ever (PREVIEW)
This is pure fantasy.
Thompson is a sub 145 km/hr, no more.
He wasn't faster than a peak Waqar Younis, never mind Shoaib Akhtar.
Compare footages of World Cup 99 of Shoaib. Thommo never achieved those speeds even if he was tied to a rocket.
It is just blatant over-hyping of a fast medium bowler.
browntree10.
sure you are not a greeny? or just smokin that whacky green sh1t maaan!
You are obviously way too young and dumb to know just how fast the legend actually bowled. |

| My memory is hazy but didnt one of Winston Davis balls end up over the fence directly behind the keeper (batsman played a defensive shot from emeory, certainly wasn't a hook shot) in a World Cup match in England? Could have been a small ground as some are obviously but that showed how he was. Another of the forgotten quicks in the production line of the 80's/90's |

The drugs helped, and the "birth defect" in his right elbow might have helped a bit too.
I'm not sure a fast-medium bowler could bowl a bouncer that hit the fence behind the wicketkeeper on the half-volley, which Thommo did do a few times. I reckon Tony Greig is a w@nker, but when he says Thommo was "actually fast" compared to modern day quicks, I believe him. |

IF THIS IS THE CASE WHICH IT IS NOT.
THE ONLY REASON THAT AKHTAR ACHEIVED THE SPEED HE DID IS DUE TO PERFORMANCE ENHANCING "DRUGS" THEREFORE ANY OF HIS PACE RECORDS ARE VOID IN MY OPINION.

The testing done in 75/76 took 2 weeks to
conclude.Experts say that those speeds were
more accuate than todays speed guns.
Thommo had the flu in 75/76 and 2 of the 8 balls
they tested of him were 99 mph.
In 74/75 he was considerably faster against England.
Some experts have studied footage from that series
and they believe Thomson bowled the occasional ball between 170km and 175km.
Awesome,awesome stuff |

Funnily enough Sir Viv and Tony Cozier were discussing this today whilst commentating on the Test match.
They reckon this guy, Sylvester Clarke
http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/westindies/content/ player/51477.html
was the fastest of them all. Only played 11 Tests as he was in the WSC and was pretty much blanked out by the likes of Marshall, Holding, Roberts, Patterson,Croft.(Jeez if WI had that bank of bowlers now)
Looking at his photo, don't you think he 's a black Tom Jones? |

Kumble was the fastest spinner wasn't he. Well spinner was debatable - bit like hauritz (I played cricket against him as a youth so shouldn't be so hard. I was the incumbent he took over from and he is playing for australia and i'm not, but no bad blood :) )
When it comes to sledging then, yes i suppose warnie was, but i reckon tufnel might have something to say there. Not for any other reason other than that he always has something to say on anything... |

| The thing with Thommo was when he injured his shoulder he wa never the same again. He lost his vicious bounce. Before that he was the most feared bowler in the world . Its actually hard to compare Thommo won the fastest in the world when the tests were done back in the '70s he c locked 99.9 in that but the technology wasnt great. THe way they *** them now is a bit dubious harder for the taller bowlers that bring it down from a great height (such as Mgrath) but nevertheless Aktor has been reorded as the fastest of all time. BUt i would take Thommo at his peak before Aktor or Waquar for that matter |
