| Clarke is expected to return for NSW's clash with Tassie next week. That'll be the tester to see if he is fit enough to play the Gabba test. I agree that he's no certainty to get the captaincy after Punter retires - though most of the other candidates will be close to retiring when Ponting pulls stumps. White would be a handy ODI skipper, but you are correct, he is doubtful to be in line for a Test spot again. |

| He probably has sciatica. I get this and it can be fine but some times it will just go and you'll have trouble even putting your shoes on. I don't think it should preclude him fro mcaptaining the team. That said, I don't think he should be a shu-in for the job. Cam White wouldn't look too bad as an ODI candidate. Only thing is that he probably won't play Tests again and they'd probably like to have one captain for all forms. |

| I think there must be more to the story as if he does have a 'degenerative back' complaint as Cricket Australia claim then why would they push ahead with trying to make him captain of all three of our sides?? if he can't handle the workload now how is he going to deal with all that as he gets older when the body especially the back starts to go?? if anyone knows anything more to this... fill us in as the media have been very quiet on all this |
