That is one of the massive problems we have. Selectors are part time and earn only about 40,000 a year - nowhere near enough to attract the cream of the crop.
But if you are going to offer one full time spot, Jamie Cox is the best candidate. The man was an astute captain for Tassie, is doing wonders behind the scenes in SA cricket and has always talked a lot of sense.
Another bloke I'd like to see involved with selections would be Justin Langer - unless he wants to get into a coaching/tactics role with the test team, he'd be outstanding at that!
The likes of S.Waugh and Warne would be great to get back into the fold in some capacity, but they earn way too much outside of the game. They'll only be very part time at best.
Hilditch is the liability in the mix, the bloke does very little and seems to have extremely poor people skills. |

Cricket Australia has resisted the urge to overhaul its selection panel following the Ashes loss, reappointing Andrew Hilditch as chairman for two more years. Hilditch has been confirmed as the chairman of selectors until at least the end of the 2011 World Cup, which will take his term in charge of the panel to five years in total.
There were reports following the Ashes defeat that Cricket Australia wanted to appoint at least one of the four selectors - Hilditch, David Boon, Merv Hughes and Jamie Cox - to a full-time role. However, Hilditch's law practice in Adelaide was expected to rule him out of any full-time position with Cricket Australia.
But Cricket Australia's chief executive officer James Sutherland told Cricinfo earlier this week that there would be no hasty decisions on the selection panel. Following Hilditch's reappointment on Friday, Sutherland said he was the right man to take the panel forward.
"Australia is a team in rebuilding phase but this country has many talented young cricketers, as illustrated by Australia's recent victory in the ICC Champions Trophy," Sutherland said. "The National Selection Panel will continue to be led by Andrew Hilditch."
Cricket Australia also announced a reshuffle in the national women's team selection panel. Christina Matthews has been named as the chairperson of the Women's National Selection Panel, while Julie Hayes has been added to the group and Julie Savage will continue as a selector. |

Moises Henriques has been called into the Aussie ODI squad to cover for the injured Hopes.
I doubt he'll play, though the Aussie injury list may open the door. Lee and MJ are still uncertain, it will be their availability that will decide the young blokes immediate future.
I wouldn't mind seeing how he goes actually, he has been in good form lately. |

Rogers has a case, but he must realise that there are many decent openers in the country and they are all making big runs.
He wasn't in the squad, so naturally the selectors were going to look at those who were when deciding on the new opener.
Watson was there and he did a good job.
I must admit, there is something about Rogers that doesn't fill me with confidence. Jaques and Hughes both make similar runs to him at shield level, but they look ahead of him in terms of ability to replicate those figures at the highest level.
I just feel that Rogers lacks SOMETHING for test cricket - and maybe the selectors do too. |

FORGOTTEN Test batsman Chris Rogers has become the latest to question the logic of the Australian selectors, saying he does not know where he stands after answering their call for more runs only to be overlooked for a makeshift opener during the failed Ashes campaign.
Rogers admitted he was ''devastated'' when the selectors promoted Shane Watson to open the batting in place of the axed Phillip Hughes for the last three Tests.
He emphasised that he has nothing against Watson, and indeed was impressed with how the all-rounder handled the swinging ball in his debut innings at Edgbaston. But this did not diminish the disappointment of Rogers, who was making runs in England when Hughes was dropped.
''I'm a bit frustrated because when I got dropped from the squad [chairman of selectors Andrew] Hilditch said, 'you have to go away and score runs. I've had three seasons, [including] two UK seasons, and I have averaged over 60 in all of them and 70 in two of them, and it's still not good enough. So, realistically, I look at it and think they just don't want me in the side,'' Rogers told The Age.
Following a 1400-run season for Derbyshire, Rogers will start the Sheffield Shield season with Victoria on Friday as the leading first-class run-scorer in the world this year. |

The entire selection committee is up for review after this home summer program.
Doubtful there'll be mass changes but usually theres 1, possibly 2, all depends on performances. Id love to see Hilditch get turfed, he was a waste of space as a player and hes still wasting that same space.
Merv Hughes is another dinosaur that needs a kick in the head too. For such a ballsy, no nonsense player hes certainly turned into a spineless 'yes' man sitting at Hilditchs feet. |

| The selectors have for a long time been incompetant, ignorant and simply a waste of space. The biggest boofhead is Hilditch. He comes across as arrogant and never takes any blame and always passes the buck to someone else. Get rid of the boofhead before we lose another Ashes series |

I agree that Holland is a good selection - it'll keep the luv_goat quiet for a while.
Now, if we can just find a way to get Clint McKay in there... |

I dont mind Hollands selection. Looks to the future.
Warne, McGrath, Gillespie, Rackemann, Reid - all came from relative obsurity in a short time span to play for Oz and all managed to do at least o.k if i recall. |

| Dad is really angry about Jon Holland's selection. "What are they doing NOT picking someone from NSW?" says Dad. Dom Thornley would have made himself available Dad told Mum. |

If players were picked on stats rather than potential, players like McDermott, McGrath and (especially) SK Warne would have had to wait years to play test cricket (if at all). You can't have players like them in the team without taking these risks, and sometimes they won't come off, but you have no way of knowing unless you try them.
You do have a good point though about too many bowlers. They need to get rid of players like Lee that are obviously not going to be part of a successful team in the future, regardless of what they have done in the past. |

Fair go, Jon Holland has been identified as a player of the future. The fact that they are prepared to pick a young player with modest stats at least shows they do more than read a few scorecards when making their selections!
Have a quick look at Ferguson's career stats, if they were worth anything then he'd have never seen international cricket.
I love that they've given Holland a chance, even if he just tours and gainst some experience. |

Another inspired rubbish selection from Hughes and Hilditch.
Jon Holland.
Hopeless average. No first class cricket. hardly impressive in what he has played.
As if we don't have way too many bowlers playing already for aussies.
Indian tour team contains just 4 front line batsmen. Laughable. And two of those havent played at all.
Start picking batsmen who bat and bowlers who bowl or this short glory of ICC will be a distant memory |
