There's no way Watson will or even could play the first Test, he only walked laps of the oval at training on the weekend.

I'm hoping they play four quicks, but maybe Hauritz can do something in this game.

Unfortunately, loki, it looks like Hilfy will definitely not play the first test, which is a shame but, on the other side of the coin...what a great replacement he could be if there is an injury...unlike the Gillespie/Kasper nightmare we had last time around...it really is an excellently well rounded squad, all we need is a decent young spinner and we will be set...

I still think if Hauritz plays, Watson is in with a huge shout...Australia will want 4 quicks, one way or another, they have said Watson WILL be fit for the first test. But I still think Australia will go with Clark, Siddle, Lee (gulp), and Johnson.

Let's hope any of our bowlers play a blinder, considering the amount of England hopefuls there are in that squad...could plant early seeds of doubt.

Very interested at the inclusion of Rashid, that will be a very telling test for the young man...he definitely has potential though...

I would be surprised if Onions plays the first test...I don't rate him, and neither do any of my cricket following pommy friends.

I would love homesick Harmy (aka Mr. "I'm going to throw all the toys out of the pram and retire from limited overs cricket...wait did you say $1 million!?! I'm in!) to get tonked...the man's a prat.

England Lions: I Bell (capt) (Warwickshire), J Denly (Kent), S Moore (Worcestershire), V Solanki (Worcestershire), E Morgan (Middlesex), S Davies (wk) (Worcestershire), A Rashid (Yorkshire), T Bresnan (Yorkshire), S Mahmood (Lancashire), G Onions (Durham), S Harmison (Durham).

Mmmmm - not a bad line up

Some real potential selections here

Rashid is Warne's prediction
Bresnan - Could do it
Onions - will be in
Bell - needs to perform her

Harmison will be steaming in

GO LIONS - they don't like it up em

It would appear, on the surface, that Hilfy is on the outer at the moment and that Lee and Clark are bowling off for the final spot.
Unfortunately really as it now appears that faith will be in placed in Hauritz and the 3 quicks.
Perhaps its merely part of the mind games that lead into any series opener and resting Hilfy is merely a ploy before unleashing him in the 1st test.
Highly doubtful but one can dream.
Watson was never going to play the test anyway, he can just sit idly by and play with his hair and hope he doesnt break too many strands.
Lets hope that Clark has a blinder.

Final warm-up game starts tomorrow, and the coverage is going to be MUCH better than the Sussex game.

Ricky Ponting has said that Siddle, Hilfy, Watson, Manou and McDonald WON'T be playing...does this mean that Hilfy and Watson are definitely not going to play the first test?

The pitch is expected to be a slow one...so that will be good preparation for Cardiff, and perhaps a chance for Hauritz to improve on a pretty woeful performance at Sussex...
