Re:Australia Vs England Lion (PREVIEW)
Mitchell Johnson is out of form, should be dropped for Hilfenhaus. North should also be dropped for Watson.
Prediction-England win 5-0 with Ponting,Katich,Lee,Clark dropped after series.

| Lee has actually started quite well today. Hes looking good and 1 wayward delivery aside bringing 4 byes has looked more likely to grab the 1st wicket than MJ. |

Nev/MON, seriously why waste the time getting offended by people on here. Stick to sport.
Yeah, I like that we have had plenty of time to acclimatise, even if our results in the T20 were dismal. I hope this isn't a false dawn for Hussey who seems to love English conditions.
Preferred bowling line up for the first test:
Johnson
Siddle
Clark
Hauritz
Part-timers- North, Katich and Clarke.
They would be daft to go into a test on a spinning deck without a spinner, and they would be even more daft to play Lee, who hasn't shown any form since coming back into the squad. Clark is a much better first change than Lee and is a better version of MacDonald, who I don't consider much of an all-rounder anyway but provided us with the tight bowling required to win matches. |

Is that off your chest now Nev? Good, let's move on shall we?
This Lions side, which is basically England A, is a handy team - which is exactly why we need to 1) treat it like we are playing the first test, and 2) look at bringing Aus A 4 day tour matches back into the domestic summer.
The Lions players are genuinely trying to throw their names up for test selection, making them a difficult team to play against. |

So master_of_none just how does it feel to have some one reply to your posts with sarcasm?
Oh I know now you have set me up so that you can report me for abuse or stalking and have me blacklisted. I guess that is just you M.O eh!
Well I must congratulate you in advance for a game well played.
I did try to show you respect until you came back at me when I posted on the NRL site relating to another regular but hey it seems as though he has disappeared could it be that this other poster is actually your alias?
I must appologise to the regular posters for this nonsense as I am sure that you all would rather we talk cricket or NRL on the said sites but hey I give it to those who dish it out to me. |

So Haddin's a better wicket keeper /batsman than Gilchrist?
========================= ========================= ========
Gilchrist circa 2005? Yes, yes he is.
I think you had better STOP licking those canetoads that you smuggled back into nzsw. |

Re:Australia Vs England Lion (PREVIEW)
disagree to a certain extent nye - Lee did have a good series in the Windies also. OK, not the toughest opposition perhaps, but I think a lot of people forget how competitive that series was.
He was sick in India and should never have toured, especially given his personal situation at the time. He had a good home series against NZ - big woop - and then got found out against the Saffas.
I'm sounding like a Lee fan here, when I'm really not. I just don't think we should be writing him off so quickly, when no-one is exactly jumping out of the ground to take his spot. His record in England is ordinary, but it's still better than Warne's record in India, and you wouldn't dream of leaving HIM out of the team there (if he was still playing).
I'm quite looking forward to this tour game.
You are like a woman... you can not make up your mind... |

exactly nye.
I don't think we'll have as many result matches as everyone thinks though, probably at least one draw.

It's only the journalist who say Hilfenhaus will not be selected, not Ponting or Nielsen.
As I've said before, it doesn't matter who we pick.
Yep your opinion certainly doesn't count! |

| I agree Nye, we also want the best batting conditions for our batter and the best bowling conditions for Hauritz...which will be on day 4. |

On batting first, isn't it smart to play the warm up matches in the same way that they's play the tests? Aussies like to bat first, so they batted first.
Again, this is a 4 day game, the bowlers will get their turn. |

Every time I watch tests from England, the same pattern appears - batting is very hard for the first 30-45 minutes. Then it settles down and scoring becomes easier until the ball gets to about 50 overs old. From there, it gets hard again.
So, what we need is Hughes and Katich to last as long as possible, preferably over an hour.
When bowling, we need the ball swinging and tight - so no Brett Lee! :P
Seriously, if MJ and Hilfy opened, they WILL get early scalps. Then, bring on the fire and brimstone of Siddle and nagging line and length of Clark to keep batsmen on their toes.
I can tell you now, none of our top 6 batsmen will score consistently. But they will all make a couple of decent scores and we should managed 400+ in most of our first innings.
In 2005, we had Ponting play one of his best ever knocks in the third test, but he did little else. We had Hayden grind out a ton inthe last test, but he had done nothing to that point, etc. All the batsmen averaged 30-40 and we struggled to assert anything on the scoreboard.
This time, as long as we can get about 3 scores out of each of our batsmen (I'm thinking 70+), then we should put up the type of numbers that our attack can defend. But, as I said, much of that will depend on the top 3 getting through most of the first session. |

Big day for Australia tomorrow: Will Johnson get the Duke ball to swing
Usually, bouncers aimed for between the eyes dont swing.
MJ will want to make a statement - a Pommy batsman unconscious and bleeding on the pitch will be that statement. |

I don't care what score he makes in the warm-up games. The point is, to me he looks like he's struggling to figure out which end of the bat to hold at the moment.
Some batsmen are mecurial types, they can be out of form one day and then *bang* they hit one good shot and everything clicks into gear. Reference Gilchrist, the Waugh brothers, Lara etc.
But most guys aren't like that. |

If the ball swung today, it will swing tomorrow, I'm pretty sure.
And let's wait till the first test, when it really matters, before we start criticising North's form... |
