Re:Vaughan expected to retire Reply to this message
I think the funniest thing I have seen on this topic was in the original post. Vaughan doesn't want to block he progress of some promising young batsmen in Yorkshire's side. What a joke. Promising what? BJ's all round if they get in the side?

Re:Vaughan expected to retire Reply to this message
Atherton's views on the game and his analysis of the game is pretty good and spot-on, so meybe he should be better described as an analyst rather than a commentator. As for Hussein, I reckon he is excellent, until Flintoff comes on to bat that is. He seems to be getting a wet patch on his trousers on each such occasion.

Never had much time for Botham because he is essentially still a Chav-in-a-suit and Bob Willis has had a personality-extraction by all account.

However, David Gower is another good example and David Loyd, well he's just "Bumble" and we love him for that, don't we..?

Re:Vaughan expected to retire Reply to this message
best commentators ever are and always have been on radio whether it be our own ABC or the BBC..i will never ever listen to those on tv..although i like some of them away from the tv such as Ian Chappel, Taylor, Gower, Botham, but Aggers is by far the best in my book..

Re:Vaughan expected to retire Reply to this message
you're kidding right sven? Atherton a top commentator? I will be the first to say warne and tubby are no future Benaud's, but god to use atherton as an example of a top commentator? Really? He commentates like he batted, long, boring, no risks, no real talent, has others make him look good, etc. Anytime I am forced to watch england play, and he commentates, I turn the volume off as he is sure to induce a rather serious case of narcolepsy..

Hussein and Atherton are top commentators. They will have Taylor and Warne for breakfast.

Re:Vaughan expected to retire Reply to this message
No doubt, he will join the other ex-England captaining "legends" of the BBC commentary team, like Bottom, Willis,Boycott, Nasser WhoSucks and Atherton, extolling the virtues of the great English team as they lose yet another Ashes series.

Been over it a million times.
It never ceases to amaze me that everytime England should be focusing on the Ashes another Vaughan saga erupts - 'cos it's all about him.

Re:Vaughan expected to retire Reply to this message
Don't think anyone can deny was very good in a couple of series against us. His captaincy was great and he was what the Ashes series needed at the time. Pity he couldn't get his body right after that.

Your constant whining is becoming a bit of a bore, Adrian. Don't you have any other material?

Re:Vaughan expected to retire Reply to this message
All slogging aside, Vaughan certainly helped return England to respectability.

His captaincy in winning the Ashes can never be questioned. And how can any of us question his desire to try and return to the highest level of the game.

Now, will he be a commentator - or perhaps write a tell all book?

Vaughan expected to retire Reply to this message
The Sunday Telegraph's cricket correspondent Scyld Berry reports that the 34-year-old will call time on his career "because his right knee makes it impossible for him to field all day and because he does not want to block the progress of some promising young batsmen in Yorkshire's side."

Vaughan has not featured for his country since stepping down as England captain following the third Test against South Africa at Edgbaston last summer, although he has continually stated his desire to feature again in the Ashes.

-------------
Congratulations on a great career MV
