I do think that this "PLAYER FORM vs PLAYER FAVOURITISM" is what the selectors and coach have to really sit down and clarify the reeal meaning of both words.

PLAYER FORM = match wins
PLAYER FAVOURITISM = lost matches

I think he has been given a long grace period because he had an extraordinarily long and successful purple patch, and he has experience in these conditions...but I have a feeling that this will be his last series, if the runs don't start flowing...he might even get dropped mid series.

Re:Sussex v Australia.. Reply to this message
Why would you drop a bowler who is performing with the ball and the bat when a recognised batsman is failing on a regular basis?

Re:Sussex v Australia.. Reply to this message
Whilst that is true nev, you cannot justify dropping someone who is in their prime (i.e. Clark) for the sake of playing someone who MAY get better as a result of the experience, can you?

If Haurtiz bowling doesn't improve then I would play MJ, Clark, Hilfy and Siddle but I just can't see it happening...I think personalities play a big role in selection and Lee is a popular figure around the camp, hence why he is in the squad and hence why I think he will play in Cardiff (Ponting loves him)...

He will only gain the experience he needs by playing these big games with experienced players against experienced batsmen

Re:Sussex v Australia.. Reply to this message
Yes, Hilfy does swing it both ways, but a lot of the time he bowls "banana" swing, the ball starts swinging very early and really good players can adjust...Siddle and Johnson swing the ball much later, hence why they are more successful.

Hilfy also hasn't quite nailed his line and length yet...he bowls too many loose balls. Don't get me wrong, he is a very good bowler and would get in to just about every other test nation, I just don't think he is quite ready yet...

Re:Sussex v Australia.. Reply to this message
Australia coach Tim Nielsen has delivered his troops an ultimatum - stop bowling no balls or it could cost you an Ashes Test.

Nielsen was furious his players were called for overstepping the mark 22 times in 80 overs during the four-day match against Sussex county in Hove on Friday (EST).

With competition so tight for bowling spots, he admitted it could make the difference at the selection table before the first Ashes Test on July 8 in Cardiff.

Re:Sussex v Australia.. Reply to this message
Seems that theres a few out there that are forgetting also that Lee has ALWAYS had trouble with the no ball situation.
Its not like its a problem thats just arisen.
More alarming is that its been there all along and he hasnt been able to address for it for extended periods - in any form of the game.So having a go at him for that is nothing new or hardly productive.
Mind you, i would be inclined to have a go at him for the no balls problem he has at times. But thats a thread all in itself.

Be interesting to see how the Paki-A team bowlers are sending them down also.

Shame the local TV stations are broadcasting nothing but the death of that yank child molesterer.
