Kind of ironic, none of you wanted Lee in the team before the series, but now that he's out, you don't know who to replace him with.
This is a big blow for Australia. Given everything we've heard about the Cardiff deck, I can't see them leaving Hauritz out, which puts big pressure on Johnson, Siddle and Clark. |

Today (12:05 am)
Re:Ashes 2009 (PREVIEW)
Needs to be MJ, Hilfy, Clark, Siddle. Has to be, we CANNOT risk 3 quicks, especially with MJ not really firing at the moment. I think this is a huge blow to our chances...

Absolutely no way. This is a job for "Sicknote" |

With apologies to Kip
Cricket Heaven?
Michael Vaughan and Andrew [Freddie] Flintoff, now elderly, 85 and 82 years old, are sitting on a park bench outside Lord's cricket ground feeding pigeons and talking about cricket, past Ashes series, and tours like they do every day.
Michael turns to Freddie and asks, 'Do you think there's cricket in heaven?'
Flintoff thinks about it for a minute and replies, 'I dunno. But let's make an agreement: if I die first, I'll come back and tell you if there's cricket in heaven, and if you die first, you do the same.' They shake hands on it. Sadly, a few months later, poor Freddie passes on.
One day soon afterward, Vaughany is sitting there feeding the pigeons by himself when he hears a voice whisper, 'Michael................M ichael'
Vaughan responds, 'Freddie, is that you?' Yes it is, Michael, 'whispers Freddie's ghost.
Vaughany, still amazed, enquires, 'So, is there cricket in heaven? 'Well, 'says Freddie, 'I've got good news and bad news.'
'Gimme the good news first, 'says Vaughany.
Freddie opines, 'Well... there is cricket in heaven.'
Vaughan says, 'That's great! What news could be bad enough to ruin that?'
Freddie sighs and whispers, 'You are going to open the innings this Friday.' |

| Actually, as crazy as this may sound, a bowler like McDonald could cause a few annoyances on a pitch like Cardiff, with no pace on the ball and a little bit of movement either way, the batsmen would struggle to score runs off of him, perhaps he would be a decent option... |

Sh/it , he is out for at least the first two test matches, and now the poms are going to start drawing parallels with the Glen McGrath situation...I pray that the selectors don't pick Hauritz, he will be targeted and he will get smashed...

| What if Brett Lee's injury is serious? A side strain might keep him out for a while, not good timing. |

| Yeah but orignally it was Lee in and the fourth bowling spot to Hauritz or Clark. Clark comes in for Lee and hence Hauritz should be in. Unless they are sure they wanted to play four pace bowlers. |

It would defeat the purpose of having Lee in the side, if he was out and NOT replaced by Hilfenhaus.
If theyre gonna pick Lee, then the reasoning was to play the pace men for a specific reason. Replacing him with Huritz would be a step backwards and an indicator that the selection panel have no real plan or direction.
The scarier option would be if they replaced Lee with Watson.
Besides, nothing is certain regarding Lee at this point anyway. |

| Have a look at Krejza's results for Aus-A. Sure he played against Pak-A but still worthy of looking at. |

| I haven't seen enough of him to make a judgement. But quite a few from the press have said he can bowl - I hope they're right. |

| Smith can bat though. And that generally means it is carrying their bowling. |

There have been so many 'next big thing' in Aussie spinners, that you really can't take them seriously anymore.
Smith for NSW and Holland from Vic are the latest on the radar, jeez we need one of them to come through. |

| The one I remember reading about was Craig Howard - Victorian leg-spinner in the mid-90's, went through the Academy. Guess who he got compared to??? |

I think a lot of the trouble has come from the fact that CA assumed MacGill would take over for a couple of years after Warne (ignoring the fact that he was just as old as Warnie!). Then we had the 'next big thing' in Dan Cullen to step in - who, as we all know, has fallen away badly in recent seasons.
We are really bad at developing spinners to take the next step. They blossom as youngsters, then stagnate and fall down when it counts.
I remember in the mid 90's, the 'next Warne' was touted as a 19 year old from Tassie called Scott French - anyone know who the fk he is? He was blitzing them at the academy and was ready to jump into shield cricket. Then, nothing - I don't even know if he played a game for Tassie! |

Krezja has more POTENTIAL than any of our part timers and we would have been better off taking him (I mean, he couldn't have done much worse than Hauritz and he is more of a wicket threat). Although having said that, I would rather he got more games under his belt with Aus A, than follow the squad around England for 2 months.
CA needs to be patient with both Holland and Krezja, and not rush them into anything and end up destroying their confidence... |

Cricket Australia should follow the English cricket traditional elite player development.
Go to South Africa, watch some U 19s play, convince a talented young guy the quota system sucks, and offer him big $$$ to emigrate |

I don't think we have one world class spinner, so I'm not sure what taking two spinners is going to achieve.
Watson shouldn't be there, I think most people agree with that. |
