"Shame" Warne? The same Warne who says that Hauritz (FC average 46) is a better bowler than Swann (FC average 32)?

Hey McGrath predicts a 5-0 win.

What a Dork he predeicted that in 2005 and predicts it every year.

Hey and guess what...warnie predicts a 5-0 win as well.

The only thing predictable is the Warne and McGraths predictions.

Go back to commentating lads. Your out now.

Re:Ashes 2009 (PREVIEW)
With Lee missing the first 2 tests, and the second being played at the seamer-friendly Lords, Hauritz will need to bowl very well in Wales to hold Hilfenhaus or McDonald out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~
Hauritz will play only 1 test I suspect (the first one) and will thereafter be consigned to the role of spectator whilst Australia will try and salvage the series (which they will do).
I agree, the 11 listed there is the team they WILL select. I disagree that it is the team they SHOULD select.
But, at least we have options!
Re:Ashes 2009 Reply to this message
With Lee MIA it is now certain that Clark will get a run - this may not be to Hilfenhaus' advantage.
I really don't want Hauritz to play but if he's not going to get a go in Cardiff - then he's a waste of space.
This is how I think they will line up.
Hughes
Katich
Ponting
Clarke
Hussey
North
Haddin
Johnson
Clark
Hauritz
Siddle
MacDonald 12th
"Hauritz will have to get a spot - he can't be a protected species forever.
He's the selector's nominated golden child therefore it's time to sink or swim."
------------------------- ------------------------- --------------
This is certainly a very valid point. Why did we bring him if we are not going to play him in a situation like this...but I swear I have heard that somewhere before ;)...
Perhaps they were hoping he would show better form than he has...but even if he has a good test, he is almost DEFINITLY not going to end up with more than a handful of wickets in the entire match...
Re:Ashes 2009 Reply to this message
Yeah, it's not really an ideal situation at all. CA really has made a real c*** -up of this spin situation, and saying that no one can live up to the hype of Warne is not much of an excuse. We don't need a new Warne...expectations need to be lowered...
Look at India for example, Kumble retires and immediately Mishra shows up to take his spot...
I'm not disagreeing with either of you, but our opinions are irrelevant. I'm just saying what Nielsen and Ponting are thinking, and they're thinking we need a 'frontline' spinner.
More so than playing three of our quicks and Hauritz? We managed OK at Cardiff.
Re:Ashes 2009 Reply to this message
If a pitch is turning, it is also seaming.
We will have 3 spinners in the team, I don't care if they are 'part time' spinners, they are just as good as Hauritz.
4 quicks gives us more options, they can swing the new ball, reverse the old one and offer some real aggression to the attack.
Clark's role will be similar to that of a spinner anyway - nice line and length with sideways movement, forcing the batsmen to create the pace and play risky if he wants to score quickly.
Playing four pacemen on a slow, turning pitch is a risk.
Also, can someone please explain to me how NOT playing Hauritz is a risk? What is he going to do? He will not rip through a side and he certainly wont make the difference on the last couple of days...
"Hilfy and MJ to open, Siddle to fire up and add some menace after 10 overs or so, Clark at the other end keeping it tight."
------------------------- ------------------------- ------------
Yeah, I agree. That's a good attack and an exciting prospect.
Hauritz only seems threatening when bowling to left handers, of which England don't have a great deal...
Re:Ashes 2009 Reply to this message
Brilliant news, now they just need to make sure they pick the 3 quicks from SA and Clark.
Yep, it may be a spinning deck, but how does that help Hauritz? Hauritz is a flight bowler anyway (usually a flight over the stands!). Remember the test where Clarke took 6-9? Hauritz took 4 wickets for that entire match I think. Clarke, North and Katich can do the job - we NEED 4 quicks, just to share the load.
Hilfy and MJ to open, Siddle to fire up and add some menace after 10 overs or so, Clark at the other end keeping it tight.
