Re:Ashes 2009 Reply to this message
Adrian - I now all of that, I was being sarcastic because it is so farken obvious!

Of course the team with the best line and length will win, just like the team that scores the most runs and takes 20 wickets will win.

This is a massive reason why Lee should be kept a long way from the first XI - MJ sprays it a bit, but has a lot of other strengths. Sids, Hilfy and Clark are all very accurate bowlers.

Nev, chill mate - it happened with the Indian debacle too. Just realise that they'd rather censor the pro-Aussie posts than rile the guests. Don't worry about it.

Re:Ashes 2009 Reply to this message
Australian wicketkeeper Brad Haddin will carry a completely mindset entering this year's Ashes series as opposed to 2005.

Back then, Haddin was Adam Gilchrist's back-up for the three-month long tour and played in just three matches, keeping wickets in two of them.

He did not play a Test but, such is the life of an understudy, had to prepare for each one as if he was going to play even though he knew he would not be in the XI.

This time it will be different, Haddin said. He now has the luxury of knowing he will, barring injury, definitely be in the side to face England in Cardiff in the first Test starting on July 8.

One can only hope that his wicket keeping has improved. I mean if his talent with the bat rubbed off onto his glove work then I would be extremely happy.

Good luck Brad.

What if adrian gets blacklisted for being a pom basher?

WTF has happened to your threads adrian?

I have posted two on here in the last 20 hours and they got removed very quickly.

I guess that because we are Aussies that we get discrimminated against with out actually being discrimminated against? HUH! WTF?

I mean we get our threads removed because some takes offence to the posts and comments but the threads posted against the Aussies do not get removed because that would be discrimminating against the pommies that posted the threads? HUH? WTF?

Re:Ashes 2009 Reply to this message
Also you have a much higher chance of taking the 20 wickets if you have immaculate line and length.

What if Warnie pitched too full or short????

What if Alderman pitched too full or short??

Very hard to score more runs if the line and length are immaculate.

WOW, you should be a coach! My advice - score more runs than the other team, take 20 wickets.

Re:Ashes 2009 Reply to this message
Best thing about a team of rookies is that Ponting will have their total respect (he had that with the senior guys, but there wasn't a lot he could tell them that they didn't already know!).

The likes of Hughes, North, Siddle, MJ, Hilfy, Haddin and McDonald will all be pumped up for this, as they were for the Sth African tour.

This can lead to some big results - like the 2005 series. 4 years ago it was a young, fresh English outfit that took their enthusiasm for the fight right up to the Aussies. It was enough to get them over the line.

Re:Ashes 2009 Reply to this message
Both teams are so even, in all forms of the game.

For the Ashes, I'm banking on a 1 game margain or a drawn series (weather pending). So that'd be 2-1, 2-2 or 3-2 all up. I think Australia will hold onto the urn.

Win, lose or draw, Ponting's captaincy is certain to continue. He's an experienced man in an inexperienced team (plus, he's just lead a team of babies to Sth Africa and won!).

Our strength looks to be in the swing bowling, but that depends on selections. Our top order is solid, particularly Hughes and Katich. But where we took the games from Sth Africa was in the lower-mid order - North, Haddin, Johnson and Siddle. Sids may not have made massive scores, but he would make regular 20's and support whoever was batting at the other end.

IF Australia can control their blood pressure against the 'spin' attack, there will be little to trouble them if they are in any real form. The likes of Harris and Botha troubled the Aussies in the SA series due to impatience and arrogance by the batsmen - they didn't respect the bowling.

The Ashes brings out a different mentality in the Aussies - one of calculated ruthlesness. I expect to see that again, and leading the way will be a few old heads, I'm sure.

England will win 3-1, I have money on it so it must happen.

Ponting will stand down as captain after this series, and Katich will retire.

Re:Ashes 2009 Reply to this message
I'd say the England team is pretty close, but the last fast bowler's slot may go to Harmison(who's having a stellar County season) or Onions.
