Adds a new meaning to suck, squeeze, bang, blow.

For those who don't know what that really is it is the operation cycle of a diesel fuel engine - intake, compression, combustion, exhaust.

Re:Ashes 2009 Reply to this message
WTF is going on with these news reports?

One headline says that Lee is jumping out of his skin ready for the Ashes.

Another headline claims Lee is fighting for his cricket life.

Who employs these hypocrits?

Do like the thought of Katich blowing

I'm a bit concerned about this new tactic. Is it within the spirit of cricket

Re:Ashes 2009 Reply to this message
Remember the days that Bevan was picked as a spinner? He couldn't make any runs, but won MOTM awards with big hauls v Sth Africa.

Katich could take a good number of wickets if he had confidence in himself - not something Clarke has to worry about! :P

Re:Ashes 2009 Reply to this message
Of course you do not want to over use him as the oposition will figure him out eventually. I do understand that he wants to put his full concentration into his batting and fielding. But hey as a team you do what ever it takes to win within reason.

Re:Ashes 2009 Reply to this message
I am still amazed that Katich refuses to bowl. He has been very successful against the saffas when called upon to bowl.

YES I do understand that you can lead a horse to water but can not make it drink. If Katich doesn't want to bowl there is no use trying to make him bowl.

But I still say that if the team needs him to bowl and possibly take a few wicket then why not do it for the team like he did in S/Africa?

Shane Warne yesterday

"I don't think Bopara is up to much," said Warne. "I think Adil Rashid could be the one to look out for. He deserves his place in the squad."

Adrian, I can't believe anyone thought the Poms would select the Camp Crusader or the Second Slip Assasin in the side anyway!

The way Strauss and Cook have been opening, and the way Bopara has settled into test cricket, Vaughan would only cause problems. The bowling unit may have been rotated a fair bit lately, but Harmless doesn't offer anything the likes of Onions, Sidebottom, Broad, Anderson etc don't.

Re:Ashes 2009 Reply to this message
You may be right Loki.

If it is a slow, turning strip, I wonder if Clark will find himself at the top of the list? Sideways movement is sideways movement, regardless of the style of bowler.

Swing bowlers and seam bowlers do well on spinning decks too - so perhaps MJ, Clark, Hilfy, Hauritz will be the bowlers?

Lee offers little on a pitch that isn't bouncy, he has never bowled well overseas.

Siddle is a faster version of Clark, so I maintain my ideal pace trio is the 3 that played in SA. Clark to come in if they pick 4 quicks.

Re:Ashes 2009 Reply to this message
Betcha the lad intentionally tries to get his line and length right but will go a few in the process anyway.

General consensus is then...that we dont want Lee taking one of the spots?
Im with you but i still think the selectors have his name pencilled in.
Johnson, Siddle, Clark/Hilfy has a lot more balance to it then adding Lee's name.
Nye, you mentioned before the deck that might be served up. Might they have been given a heads up about whats on the plate and be readying for 4 quicks anyway?

So many questions to be answered in so little time really.

Re:Ashes 2009 Reply to this message
If Lee went for 150+, but took 2 wickets, they'd talk up the wickets and he'd play!

I hope like hell that Clark, Siddle and Hilfy all bowl their ar5es off!

Re:Ashes 2009 Reply to this message
BRETT Lee is prepared for a battle of firepower when Australia's pacemen jostle for an Ashes berth in their four-day tour match against Sussex starting on Wednesday night (SA time).

The NSW quick is in direct competition with Stuart Clark, Peter Siddle and Ben Hilfenhaus for the right to play alongside Mitchell Johnson in the first Test in Cardiff on July 8.
------------------------- ------------------------- ------

My bet is Lee will try to knock a few heads off in the Sussex game instead of being smart and try to get some good line and length going..

I say he will go for a few..

Watson has never been and never will be up to test standard.

I live in fear that Lee will get a recall.

Re:Ashes 2009 Reply to this message
I doubt he's in the first choice XI.

If it is a turning deck (as expected), then North will be our allrounder and Hauritz will be the 4th bowler.

If it is not expected to turn, North will still get the allrounders spot and we'll pick 4 quicks.

IMO, the top 8 are set in stone, injury permitting.

Hughes
Katich
Ponting
Hussey
Clarke
North
Haddin
Johnson

That just leaves the 3 other bowlers to worry about - out of Lee, Clark, Hilfenhaus, Siddle and Hauritz.

No Watson in the reckoning really.

Re:Ashes 2009 Reply to this message
Shane Watson has pulled out of training prior to the Sussex match complaining of general soreness and stiffness.
While not overly concerned at this development Management are monitoring his condition closely with the 1st test approaching.

1st practice match in hasnt even had a ball fired in anger and already theres concerns for Princess Shanes well being.
When, oh when are we going to stop pinning our hopes on this guy to get through a series?

It may only be my opinion, but it seems to me that we dont really need him there anyway.
