no, i think it is a fair comment that the selectors made some mistakes.

first things first - the tragic victorian brad hodge. it may be an exaggeration to say he is the best 20twenty batsmen in the world. but how close would he be to being the best in this team? i would like to know the rationale behind his non selection.

the other is choosing players not in form (ie, husseys). 20twenty doesnt really give you time to 'knock yourself in'. you need to be hitting out from the word go. and wasnt their talk of elevating johnson in sa? i suspect they would only do this if the team gets a good start though, so i guess thats fair enough, but i think he has what it takes to be batting up the order a bit. in fact, he is probably a better twenty20 batsmen then a few of our batting specialists!

and i couldnt understand their plan last game. surely they knew they had to make a huge score to have a chance of getting into the next stage. but i didnt see that urgency until it was far too late (from several batsmen anyway). of course, part of the issue was their ongoing problems with spin. that is definitely something that needs a bit of attention.

maybe buchanan was onto something when he said we should choose a more specialist twenty20 team free from test and other burdens. we have two of the best twenty20 batsmen in the world - but their talents are sadly confined to the IPL! (no need to mention who they are)

Oh look, the sky is falling in again!

Big deal, we got smacked by two teams that basically consider T20 to be the top of the tree
=========
That's funny. When England beat WI in the last 20/20 they(WI) were called minnows on here :}

The point of the whole Oz turkey -shoot is that the other Test countries have got test players who can belt the leather off the ball in 20/20 as well as in tests (Kallis, Pietersen, Dhoni, Tendulkar). What's our excuse? Ah, well, Symonds through our game plan out. Yeah, right!

Most people will remember 2009 as the year that Australia got bounced out of the first round of the 20/20 World Cup, don't you worry about that.

Big deal, we got smacked by two teams that basically consider T20 to be the top of the tree. We don't, we haven't invested the time and effort into how to win the game and we will be shown up in the format until we do.

Let's see who remembers the results of those 2 games in 5 years time - and then ask them what the result of the upcomming Ashes was!

The selectors have been useless for years. The top cricketers (Warne, McGrath, Gilchrist, Hayden) kept them in a job. Now that it's a different line-up, they've got no idea.
The 20/20 batsmen are no good because they're so-called "test" batsmen, and they need a day and a half to get their eye in. The bowlers work on the "spray" theory, ie just spray the balls all over the place, and eventually one will land on the wicket, giving the batsman such a shock that he'll mis-hit it. Bloody rank amateurs!

Yep. And many on here have been expressing similar sentiments in teh weeks leading up to the competition.
It seems patently obvious to everyone except the selectors.

Far be it from me to tell the Australian cricketers how to play the game. The players selected by the Cricket Australia selectors did the best job they could considering that 90% of them are test players. The people I blame for Australia's dismal showing in the ICC World T20 are the selectors. They obviously either don't understand Twenty20 cricket or they don't care and still think of the game as "hit and giggle". They probably didn't watch the IPL over the last 6 weeks. If they did they would realize how seriously the shortest form of the game is taken by everyone but them. As long as there are three forms of the game of cricket there should be three selection panels, one for each format that are staffed by experts in that particular format. The current selection panel should be sacked or retained purely for Test cricket selection. Based on form I think that even the Deccan Charges could have beaten the West Indies and Sri Lanka. Sorry to say this but on the whole the Australians played like Grade cricketers (no offense meant to Grade cricket).
