wp, see seeks comment "As for his surgeon being optimistic.........well, his surgeon is not going to cast any doubt on his work."
Find me a surgeon who says "Nah mate, his knee is farked and he'll never play again" and I'll show you a lawsuit.

Read between the lines. 3rd op in 30 months, 6 months later it hasn't 'set' in a few places and the surgoen says "He's ok to continue rehab". Not "he's ok to resume training" or "he's ok to jog a little".

Re:Aus V England 2009 Reply to this message
January 2007

Allan Border last night criticised Kevin Pietersen for leaving the tour so quickly after breaking his rib in the opening match of the tri-series. The former Australia captain said Pietersen ought to have stayed if there was any chance he could help his team into the finals.

Pietersen had his rib broken by a delivery from Glenn McGrath at the MCG on 12 January. An X-ray revealed a fracture that would keep him out for up to five weeks and he was sent home.

However, Border said Pietersen acted too hastily. "He was on the plane before the X-ray came back," Border said. "If he's got a broken rib, fair enough, but it wasn't displaced broken, it was just cracked, and given two weeks he could be playing. With England a chance to s *** e into the finals and he a key man. Too quick on to the plane for my liking."

============
So Doctor Border haas more medical knowledge about fractured ribs than someone who has studied for 5 years to qualify as a Doctor.
And hey, any1 remember who won that CB series.
I'll give you a clue. Simon Jones wasn't bowling for them.
He was injured.

"When you look at the action of a pace bowler there is impact on the knees from the start of the run up to release of the ball, with maximum effort."
And particularly the delivery stride and follow through, the forces placed on the knee are extreme.

Re:Aus V England 2009 Reply to this message
Dr Border uses cutting edge technology. Now used my bad pun quota of the day.
DKL was early 20s when he came back from his back injury. He was diagnosed during the Windies tour of 73, and bowling by late 74. Mind you, he had a couple of months against reserve grade cricketers ie Tony Greigs touring party.
And DKL had more talent in his little pinkie than that Welsh plodder anyway.

Re:Aus V England 2009 Reply to this message
Didn't DKL defy similar, or worse odds to make a comeback?

Lillee had stress fractures in the back and took 18 months(from memory) to get back on the paddock. You can't compare knee to spinal injuries although both are serious.
When you look at the action of a pace bowler there is impact on the knees from the start of the run up to release of the ball, with maximum effort.
It would be something special if Jones recovered and played anywhere near his former standard.
As for his surgeon being optimistic.........well, his surgeon is not going to cast any doubt on his work.
