| good guess sven, his batting average since the 05 ashes would be about that, and over 35 with the ball too.. |

and just to finish the thought... The batsmen would then be
Cook
Vaughan
Strauss
KP
Collingwood
Bell
Prior
By the same token that Flintoff has been moved to number eight, Vaughan should open the batting with Strauss being moved down to number three.
Bell has had a stellar start to the CC season which can't be ignored, so he goes to number 6, which is where he has had his best performances by far. |

That's becasue his batting has fallen away and they insist in playing him at number 6. Without checking the stats, but I guess that his average is around 25 since returning from injurie(s), and that's just not good enough. It also makes for an unbalanced team.
Flintoff needs to play at number 8, with Broad at 9, Anderson at 10 and a spinner at 11. That would be a much better team and would also end up with a better record. |

From Daily Telegraph 26th April
"Iconic as Flintoff appears, even his greatest supporters have to admit that he has flattered to deceive since the 2005 Ashes, a series that looks like marking the apogee of his career. Injuries have not helped, denting his confidence and the mental and physical robustness that comes from a run of consecutive appearances.
But, and this will sound as blasphemy about a cricketer as cherished as him, the figures suggest that England are actually better off without him.
Since that heady day at the Oval almost four years ago, Flintoff has played 22 Tests and been on the losing side 13 times. Over the same period, England have won just three times with him in the side but 10 times from 23 Tests without him, a significant difference. " |

Don't say you weren't told!!!
God I love it when I am right... |

I agree Loki - When I was growing up you went to see the likes of Holding, Marshall Greenidge, Haynes , Dujon Garner,Richards, Lloyd etc.
They were the Calypso Kings. |

I know it's getting off an Ashes track, but the one bowler that'll always stick in my memory of those ive seen in the flesh, was Michael Holding.
Holding for the sheer fluidity and raw pace and Colin Croft for total and unwavering intimidation.
I grew up watching Lillee and he'll always have the respect of any Aussie kid that saw him bowl and was into cricket but for me, it was the visitors that drew me to the games - the West Indians (any of them), Akram, Hadlee, Proctor, Le Roux, Lever, Willis.......you get the point.
The other guy that i always loved to watch bowl was Lenny Pascoe - absolute Oz legend! |

BIG BIRD himself was dangerous with the short ball.
For those who do not remember who Big Bird is, the name Joel Garner sends trmmors down at certain batsmen who were hit in the chops by the short ball deliveries.
I still like Thommo, Lillee, McGrath, Merv (as a character), McDermott, but there are just so many bowlers that I could name and there are more that I am not familiar with as I am too young to remember them. |

hey mate, simon jones was good on his day!
but even though we loved his commitment,he was never going
to be another mcgrath, injury or no injury!
mcgrath is my favourite bowler of all time!warney is up there as well!
but mcgrath takes the biscuit, for his superb aggresive
in your face attitude! |

has simon jones bowled yet?
I know I harp on about this, but seriously, the carp I copped warrants it. He's just had ANOTHER operation, he will spend 6-8 weeks with his feet up and then start all over again. Can we now admit the guy's finished at international level and move on and never mention him in anything to do with the ashes again? |

Phillip Hughes scores a tonne in England.
And they are not happy at the fact that he is getting a good feel for the wickets and grounds and bowling attacks from the home side. OOOHHH look out now the ashes will go spinning away. |

We need another Boony in the side, but they broke the mould I think!
I remember him getting smacked in the jaw by a bouncer from, I think, Patrick Patterson in the Windies in 1991. He got stitched on the field and went on to make a century against one of the most feared pace attacks the world has seen! |

wp,
Far from it I am 5th generation Aussie, 90% of my ancestors are of Scottish origin before they immigrated here. But it is good fun taking the mickey, you know healthy rivalry and all that. |
