What I meant to say i given the chance Monty just might be the man to break Aus as they haven't played him in how long?
Aus did it with Brad Hogg a while ago and just look at how part timer Katich when forced to bowl took cheap wickets against the S/A team, they had not played much cricket against his bowling and he got wickets. Not saying that Monty will but there is that chance and what have you to loose by playing him compared to not playing him. |

| Notice how certain players actually step up to the crease when they are representing their country? |

| Prob with that Neville is that in four County matches this season, Monty has taken just 4 wickets @75.50 average. It's far too late now to consider bringing a rookie in for such a big series. |

Very good point chucker and as I am studying fitness now I wonder just how much of the training and performing had a negative psychological affect on all of these players.
I wonder how this off-season training will affect the NRL AFL and other sports athletes psych that is will they burn out or will they step up and deliver now but like so many in the past suffer depression in silence as a result of all this pressure now. |

Matt Hayden has publicly acknowledged the main reason for his return to form is that he can now concentrate on relaxing between games, and doesnt have to train for upcoming tours/tournaments.
Which in hindsight, if he had decided in late 2008 to retire after the SAffer tour of Aus, he probably would have done much better during the home test series. |

I have to say it;
Hilditch should seriously consider offerring contracts back to Gillie, Warney & Haydos.
These guys are excelling in the hit&giggle IPL. Warney certainly knows how to appeal. The hairs on the back of my neck stand up when I watch him on the news highlights, the way he gets in the face of the umpire in the middle of the pitch and obscurring the full view of the LBW from the umpire. That is character. Haydos and Gillie smashing the ball over the boundary is just fantastic to watch.
I would love to see that type of batting and Warney's appealling against the poms come Ashes time. That is what we want characters not yes men. Characters to bring the crowds back to test match cricket. |

Unless you are in the top 10 pistoleers in Aus I suggest we use water pistols or paint guns would be even better provided we use frozen paint balls.
Yeah baby your on. |

Re:Aus V England 2009 (PREVIEW)
wp sometimes we have the same ideas and it will not be the end of the world.
Aussie win in the Ashes. Hughes will be Man of the series.

OK. Pistols at dawn from 30 yards. Your place or mine . |

I'm with Neville on this. (Never thought I'd say that)
You either totally embrace technology for borderline decisions, or you chuck it out .And that means no instant replays. There's no middle ground here.
Nowadays it seems the TV coverage is as much about assessing the correctness of the umpires' decisions as it is about judging the quality of play. |

The referral system was a mess, and becoming a liability.
The basic problem is that if a challenge is referred and the replays cannot determine one way or the other, the third umpire is stuck between ajudicating for natural justice (ie batsman gets benefit of the doubt) or upholding the onfield umpire's decision. |

Hotspot works really well imo, especially when it can be allied with snicko.
I don't understand why they won't allow that, whereas hawkeye (which is still based on "judgement") seems to be fine for critical decisions.
I just find it stupid that they were *** footing around the referral system with a half-hearted attempt to introduce technology without wheeling out the big guns (snicko and hotspot).
But in the end, I think the version of the referral system that was trialled in the carribean earlier this year has failed and and I'm glad that it is not introduced during the 2009 ashes. |

The decision not to use referrals in the Ashes is in the spirit of the game. But I am sure that the media will definately find a way to be critical of this decision.
I am certain that Ch9 who use "Hot Spot" and have or are designing a new type of camera system that will undermind the umpires yet again will eventually get their way and more $$$$$$ to the media. |

| sven, that's his average since 2005. I posted it a while ago. His batting was 25 or under from memory, and over 30 heading up to 35.. I really can't be bothered diggin it out again, but trust me, he hasn't been wonderful with either bat or ball. |

| The problem with him is, as I said months ago only to have mip dismiss me as full of sh!t, his body simply isn't up to being a first strike bowler, he has to be a pinch-hitting allrounder otherwise his knees and ankles will collapse, as has happened again. The ipl was always going to be a risk given how many games over a short period. If they bring him back for the t20 in june they are mad.. |
