Dave is a very good player when he gets the chance to play his natural game. This summer he isn't getting that chance due to the players losing wickets around him. When he came in yesterday Australia was 3 down in the 20th over & not long after that they were 5 down. He played some good shots, looked like he & Haddin could have resurrected the innings by batting sensible but then Haddin decides he needs to hit the ball in the air for 6. When Aus is 5 down with 25 overs left it limits the guy from playing his natural game - he knows that Australia need to keep pushing for runs, but that they also need to bat through their 50 overs.
Maybe if he got the chance to come in with a decent score on the board, wickets in hand & not others doing stupid things to get out we would see the best of him. Same with White. Both are natural stroke players but are having to adjust their games to rebuild the innings & get a total, rather then just add to the score that is already there. White looked his best this summer in the twenty-20 when he was going after his shots & he could do that knowing that he had Mike Hussey at the other end who was set and could take over if he lost his wicket. |

| yes i do recall Steve Waugh having a form slump and saving his career with a century at the SCG, maybe Hayden could have saved his career with a last wicket catch at the SCG |

| I must admit that I excluded Bradman, a freak, from my list. A Bradman form slump would see him averaging 80+, which is not fair to others. But most others, from early days to modern, have definitely had a dry period. Some have been dropped, and returned to form and regained their spots, while others have either given the game away or been passed over. Hayden's future is in the middle of all that methinks. |

| In 1936 Bradman played 2 tests and averaged only 30. He only played 52 tests in his career and only ever played in Australia or England playing 33 Tests in Australia and 19 in England. He played England in 37 Tests, India, West Indies & SA in 5 Tests each from 1928 to 1948 so it's very hard to compare him with modern day cricketers. |

The trouble is, one MH is in, the other is out, and if you ask me, the selectors have got it 180 degrees out of phase.
Hayden's average in the last Test series was even better than Hussey's, although quite low, but I don't know of any premier batsman who hasn't gone through a form slump. |

| Meaningless slogathons like the 20/20 may be the tonic needed for Hayden and Hussey, because it may allow them to slog their way back into form. |

Hayden's one day and 20/20 stats are better than a lot of others in the squad. He needs a rest, he's still one hell of a batsman. The worst thing he did lately was get his photo on the back page of the Courier Mail with a grey stubble all over his face. He looks 47 not 37, and tired - bad move.
Yep, I agree, Hussey should not be in all 3. |

The Aussie selectors regard their cricketers like trashy women.... you know ride em' hard while they are their peak and even share em around and once they run out of juice ala Hayden just dump em' for a newer model.....
you make a good point with your thread dspacemonkey but..welcome to real life :) |

| As a Michael Hussey admirer and a WA boy i think it is an absolute joke Hussey is in the Test, one day and 20/20 teams. Save this guy, prolong his career, he is a out and out test player. Even though he can be a huge hitter he is a grinder and does not belong in the 20/20 team. Give a fresh youngster a go and ration Hussey for the long run. |
