Re:Twenty 20 v SA Reply to this message
Interesting that last tour, the Saffers were at the press, uptight , whingeing about everything........ and lost.
this tour, they have been relaxed, approachable, congenial, and have played much better individually and as a team.
Perhaps the Indians should take note

I did like the fact that they haven't complained about the laser thing.

Good lads.

Re:Twenty 20 v SA Reply to this message
Sth Africa have been impecable this summer in their attitude and sporting conduct.

I would hate to see what would've happened if it was India playing when the laser scandal happened!

I actually watched the Duminy catch specifically to see if he grounded the ball and I must say I don't think it touched the ground at any stage.

But even if it did, like the Ponting catch, it happens 90% of the time a player dives for a catch and the complaint last year was one of many examples of the media and Indians trying to cut down the Aussie skipper/team.

The most obvious example of a fielder grounding the ball recently was when VVS caught Ponting in the first test in India - clear as day he pushed the ball into the grass. But it was a fair catch and Ponting just walked off, no mess, no fuss!

Re:Twenty 20 v SA Reply to this message
What Duminy did was almost identical to what Ponting did last Summer , and both were good catches
It is no coincidence that because India were not involved, there was no whingeing for days on end
AND BTW full marks to the Sth African players and management who left the dressing rooms to give a standing ovation to the Matt Hayden car as he drove past at the Gabba at the T20 Tuesday. I thought that was a very sporting and moving gesture

Re:Twenty 20 v SA Reply to this message
I thought it was a good catch. He was in control of himself & the ball when he landed, its not like he was juggling to catch it, it went clean into his hands, if he didn't have control of it then it would have popped out.

Re:Twenty 20 v SA Reply to this message
one thing no-one has commented on: Duminy 'grounded' the ball when he took that blinder to dismiss Dave Hussey. Is it a coincidence that India are not playing and no-one has mentioned this?

Re:Twenty 20 v SA Reply to this message
Conspiracy, conspiracy;

Next you will all be blaming Gibbs for the Lazer in the eyes of the S/A player trying to take the catch lastnight.

STOP: WAIT ON JUST A MINUTE:
If we had the techknowledgey back then that we have today we just might find out that these "LAZERS" were used to blind the players back then to assist in match fixing also.

Gibbs did not cheat in that world cup...

he thought bout it but never went thru with it..

after all he did score 89 in one of those innings...

Wasnt that Mornay?

And if Gibbs was paid to drop the World Cup, there is no way he would do it that obviously.

Re:Twenty 20 v SA Reply to this message
Mip, if Gibbs was paid to deliberately lose the game, then why did he run Ponting out when Ponting was just starting to hit his straps???

Re:Twenty 20 v SA Reply to this message
nye, i knew it was somethin like that, I remember that there were a couple of guys who weren't in on 'the fix' (allegedly) and that ill-fated last run was just an example of one guy going for the win and one going for the $.. allegedly.. I remember Kluesner was very anti (allegedly) cronje and match fixing and was one of the reasons for his international demise..

Re:Twenty 20 v SA Reply to this message
MON I don't agree. Yes his timing was off but on 3 occasions in his 6 balls faced he turned away quick singles.

Even Amla had a word with him. He can't cheat as easily as he used to.

Anyway time i moved on.

agreed chucker, Gibbs was an idiot, with the emphasis on was.

Last night, he was just an aging player trying to get some form back after a long layoff.

Re:Twenty 20 v SA Reply to this message
Actually ISC, aparently it was Donald that was quite influential in getting Cronje caught - they were very close friends, but Donald just couldn't sit back and let his mate do what he was doing.

With Warne and Waugh I think they are guilty of utter stupidity - but I still would'nt have minded a harsher penalty for them, 6 month suspension or whatever.

We've got to get serious with match fixing, no second chances etc - just get them out of the game and make an example of every damn one of them!

Re:Twenty 20 v SA Reply to this message
Bit unfair on old Herschelle
Give the guy a break - he has just stepped out of rehab.
Gibbs fessed up that he accepted the bribe, and changed his mind. Stood up for what he did, and did his time.
Have to respect the umpires decision, even if it was incorrect.
yes, in a perfect world, Gibbs should have been banned for life, but the actions of Mark Waugh and Shane Warne in accepting money from the bookies would have seen more severe reprimand in the perfect world, and the entire Pakistan squad would have been banned as well.

Re:Twenty 20 v SA Reply to this message
nye, mip, agree totally. He should never be allowed near a cricket field again. Absolute disgrace that he is allowed to play. Who was batting with Allan Donald at the death of that game too, was it Kluesner? I remember insinuations that Donald was in on the scam and Kluesner had refused to go along with it, hence him clubbing us to all parts of the ground..

Re:Twenty 20 v SA Reply to this message
And MON who remembers the results :- the Indian bookmakers thats who.

I want to see fair and honest cricket and I didn't think we saw it yesterday with Gibbs.

And what is no obvious to me is it is a lot easier for 1 player to influence a game now than ever before. Especially the opener. Ease your way in for 3 overs and its all over.

EXCATLY what Gibbs did yesterday.

NYE you know what I agree.

I just can't trust him and as soon as he doesn't take and easy single in 20/20 I smell a rat.
