in terms of tactics... Hauritz playing would benefit England the most.... he's the release valve that they would need when the likes of Siddle and Johnson build intense pressure at one end...
the tour games showed us that Clarke and North are better spinners than Hauritz so there's no real need to include him in the team... |

Hauritz HAS to play in the first test. The pitch will favor spin bowling in the second half of the game and we must have a spinner.
It's too late to say "oh he's not good enough" even though it's obvious he's not.
He's been selected in every Australian side for the last six months as Australia's "premiere" spinner, once again, even though he's not. |

Loki,
Richie Benaud would be a better option than Hauritz
Sorry, Nathan, your services in making the gatorade are desperately needed. Return to the dressing room ASAP |

Clark may still win a reprieve for Cardiff after Nathan Hauritz was targeted successfully. The one time he was able to justify a long appeal he was jeered by the crowd. Next ball Denly thumped him to long-on, in front of the hecklers, and in the following over Moore cleared the boundary straight down the ground. Fifteen runs came from his opening three overs and by the end of the day he had 0 for 80 off 18, seemingly making four fast bowlers the only option for next week. Strangely, Marcus North, who is expected to contribute with his offspin in Cardiff, was not used until late in the day, when Steve Davis cut an edge to Michael Clarke via Haddin's glove on 53.
One paragraph has never said so much. |

"I also notice Nathan Hauritz is included, so there's no spinners."
David Lloyd doesn't think Australia's slow bowlers will be helping them retain the Ashes

| 1307: Nugget says: "Is it just me, or should we be enourmously concerned that Nathan Hauritz keeps turning up in these teams? Despite the fact that he was a once in a generation freak, Shane Warne and to a lesser degree Stuart McGill had great sucess against the poms as they were both big turners of the ball. Hauritz is the worlds first spinner to have the non turning arm ball an a stock delivery. Thankfully he has that long hop as a change up. Jason Kreja can be expensive, but his amount of turn will reap results." |

| I think a lot of people get "attacking" confused with "inaccurate". |

Does anyone know as yet? Is Horowitz playing in the 20/20 against Pakistan tonight?
An obsession with "dot ball cricket", the strategy of frustrating a batsmen into getting out by drying up the run-rate, has done nothing to promote attacking spin-bowling.
Australia's approach to this year's Ashes series in England is likely to take a similar path, with Nathan Hauritz the likely touring spinner because he is the most steady, allowing captain Ricky Ponting to set a suffocating field.
When national chairman of selectors Andrew Hilditch was asked whether Australia would use attacking spin in England or rely more on containment to create wickets, he said the concept of attacking was "overrated". |

I was also absent when Hauritz took 0 wickets and made a miserable 3-odd in the fourth game against SA.
He also bowled 7 overs and went for 51 (7.28 runs per over)
Still he is there. His inclusion is not warranted.
SA won by 61 runs by the way - I said nothing at the time.
But if he plays any better he will be dropped in favour of mediocre younger NSW player - that's how it works.
Just some gems from the communist claptrap, who has been noticably absent since game 2 of this series
Pity, he missed the last 3 games, and especially this one where all the mediocre NSW players took all those wickets and the mediocre NSW player scored 100no.
Suppose that is why the selectors are paid for what they do, and hvalclav is the troll who takes his termite infested icehockey stick and grapefruit home to sulk whenever the Aussies win. |

Apology accepted.
I am not familiar with goat husbandry, and for this I am not sorry, but will accept your knowledge as firsthand and hence accurate.
You are just displaying your own hypocrisy. You had a go at the illiterate Queensland poster, the one whose name escapes me, this morning with your comment "One bad game and you are going a rant already".
And now you are doing same thing? This would be funny no? if it was not so pathetic.
In strange overseas land we say "You can pick your nose but you can't pick who comes to your country" and it is true is it not?
How you say - hahahahahaha? |

Didnt know any old Czech ice hockey sayings, so sorry.
But Bryce McGain being in the test side would be hilarious if it wasnt so pathetic.
Perhaps I could use a more familiar phrase for your benefit?
May all your goats stay fertile despite your constant molestation.
"Couldnt pick a grapefruit" Well if you leave it long enough, it just falls off the tree anyway. But , the fruit would be fat, sour and rather useless. Bit like Brad Hodge
In Australia, we say " Couldnt pick a snotty nose" |

Once is masturbator,
Watson is wonderful player. Sincerely I mean this. But if he plays any better he will be dropped in favour of mediocre younger NSW player - that's how it works.
Hopes is inconsistent but better than most in current squad.
Symonds is useless and should not have been picked. But posters such as yourself will say "He will come good, just give him another few years".
It is customary is it not to end posting with haha only if you cannot think of anything intelligent to say? |

Clap trap,
you only post your drivel on here after the aussies lose a match.
No comment on Hopes 40 not out and 2/20, the return of Stu Clark, or the return of Watson and Marsh as openers.
And in the latest ICC world rankings, Ponting and Hussey M are listed in the top 10 ODI batsmen.
Hauritz is limited as a bowler, but who are you going to play instead of him?? Bryce "18 overs 0/150" McGain????
hahahahahahahahahahaha |

Ahhh, the souvlaki returns. How are you? Clearly you never watched the Australian side in the 80's.
I also notice you were absent when Hauritz took four wickets and made a handy 20-odd in the first game against SA. I missed you lots. |

Once was a masturbator (and probably still is),
So your only hope is that Pakistan fail or throw a match and that this will make Australia and Symonds (2 runs and 3 overs for 18) look good?
Pakistan has history of playing brilliant cricket one match and stinking the next? Sounds like the Aussies at present. |

havaclaptrap ,
check out Andrew Symonds batting average in the World cup.
then, after that, you are free to post your apology about talentless players
No doubt, Pakistan will receive a huge bookie bonus before game 2 and play a shocker. Pakistan has a history of playing brilliant cricket one match, and stinking the next. |

The ODI side that played Pakistan last nights have to be one of the worst Australian sides ever.
It Andrew Symonds and Nathan Hauritz are the best that the selectors can come up with then they are not doing their job. This side has no batting depth and no attacking bowlers, just guys doing what they hope will be enough to cement their place in the side.
I will give the rest of the team the benefit of the doubt for now, but honestly, Victoria could whip this side at the moment. No wonder Dirk Nannes is planning to play for Holland. |
