Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
Is throwing the ball to Warne and Pigeon,or sitting in the dressing room watching another Hayden-Langer assault or a Gilchrist blitz really a sign of good captaincy??

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
Well, that's why I thought Hayden's comments were interesting. He has a lot of respect for Waugh and credits him for giving him the confidence he needed to forge a test career.

He's played under Taylor also, and I suppose you could throw in Border as well as he did tour England in 1993.

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
Hayden in Inside Cricket magazine was asked about Ponting's seemingly endless critics. This was his answer:

He knows what he is about and he is going to stick to it. He's brilliant. Hasn't he copped some cr*p? What a joke. Some of the things that have been written and said about Ricky and his captaincy are just ridiculous. I think I know what leadership is about, and Ricky is as good a leader as I've seen.

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
After we went down 2-0 to the saffas after the first 2 tests in the recent tests here all the ex captains had much to say bout Ponting thru all forms of the media....

I bet these same ex capt's are waiting for the saffas to chase down this target so they can re load and attack him again.....

We all knew what you meant in the first place matt...

"show no mercy"

you have to understand that mip is not entirely with it..

seeing his girly team getting spanked by another minnow nation like his own is sending him round the bend..

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
Yes mip, Ricky has always had his weak points..

everyone knows that and i have never claimed him to be a great capt..

Mark Taylor leaves them all behind..

But in saying that Ponting is still far better than Vaughan.

"That said 300+ on a 5th day pitch. Surely not !!!"

It's not 300+ it's only 276.

I'm guessing that they now wish they had selected Bryce McGain.

Great con job the Saffers pulled off in the Presidents XI match.

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
Enforcing the follow on was not really an option as we have just 3 frontline bowlers and they had bowled a lot of overs each in the first innings. With the second test starting on Thursday, it could've proven very costly to force the boys into the field again immediately.

Great match atm. I think Aussies are still on top, but the Saffers can make them sweat it out if they get through to lunch no more than 4 down.

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
Ha ha ha Ricky has to learn to go for the jugular is that what you said Adrian.

I translate that to read Ricky is a weak captain and he is. His learning time is over. He makes very strange decisions that if they come off would be brilliant and classed as a great captain. But usually they don't.

If the Australians POP along tonight then its trouble.

That said 300+ on a 5th day pitch. Surely not !!!

Anyone mention Perth ??

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
Great, great match in progress. It's obvious that the main difference between this Aussie side and the one of five years ago is consistency. Whereas they used to play five solid days of cricket, this side doesn't seem to be able to put five good days together.

Still, it's going to be a big ask for the Saffas on the fifth day. Just hope the rain stays away!

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
This is why i love Test Cricket and to hell with the other shtye...

This match is really set up for the taking..

I think SA have the temperament to take this to the edge.
Have we the temperament to keep the bowling tight?
The pressure is on both sides equally..

Love it..

Just hope the rain stays away and we get a result.

As for England v Windies.. well the windies reach 700 !!!!!!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
Amazing, feels just like the test series in Australia, we belt the Saffers in the first innings then let them slip away for a win.

shame the Aussies don't have a spinner... all that pace coming onto the bat is helping the Saffers on...
