Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
Perth was a road. I was never confident about Australia defending that total, especially after we needed Johnson to take 8 just to bowl them out in the first dig.

Wanderers, totally different story. One wicket in this match has usually led to three or four. If South Africa chase down 450 in the fourth innings on this deck, then kudos to them.

I just really hope it doesn't rain.

MON, I think many fans on here are still having nightmares about Perth!

As I've said, I think we will still win and deservedly so - we have won all but maybe 3 sessions of the match!

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
I've got to ask, what SHOULD they have done?

They had 2 options, try to build as big a total as possible, as quickly as possible by batting aggressively, or batting to make sure they get enough runs to not lose.

Option 1, the attacking and positive option, is what they chose - risk a loss to have a chance to win.

Option 2 is negative and would almost certainly lead to a draw - and enormous backlash from fans and media alike.

Or do you think they should be good enough, on a dicey deck and against quality bowling, to bash 350 in 50 overs for the loss of only a couple of wickets?

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
The batsmen have given the momentum and spirit back to SA when they should've batted them out of the game. The bowlers are now in danger of completing the self-destruct, having bowled poorly in the 2nd innings so far.

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
Not when they were dismissed going for quick runs. They needed to play a few risky shots and hope they came off - Ponting and Hussey wouldn't have played the shots they did if the side needed to bat for longer.

No, 450+ in the 4th innings is enough. If we get beaten it will be due to some great SA batting and poor Aussie bowling.

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
Getting 207 in the second innings, the batsmen should wear some of the blame.

"We have got democracy rooted here,"

Now, rooted is a very ambiguous term. Wonder which one he meant??

"told the Guardian newspaper that British troops will leave a better country when they withdraw by the end of July."

Unfortunately they'll have to go home to the run down old country.

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
THE senior British commander in Iraq believes democracy is now rooted in the country and al-Qaeda has largely been defeated there, as Britain prepares to pull out.

Lieutenant-General John Cooper, who stands down tomorrow as deputy commanding general in Iraq, told the Guardian newspaper that British troops will leave a better country when they withdraw by the end of July.

"We have got democracy rooted here," he said from Baghdad.

I wish he'd make up his mind.

And as someone just said, all the good work in the first innings goes out the window and they gift them the game.

If the Aussies lose because they cannot bowl out the Saffers for under 450 in the fourth innings at the Wanderers, I dont think their batsmen will to blame for the loss.

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
Getting rolled for 207 in the second innings put additional pressure on the bowlers to perform.

And as someone just said, all the good work in the first innings goes out the window and they gift them the game.

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
I have faith that the trio of quicks we have, plus the handy options of North, McDonald and Clarke (if he can bowl) will be able to win this match.

An early breakthrough and maybe another wicket before the second new ball will cause some serious damage to the Saffas chances.

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
When are these clowns going to learn that just because you have a 1st innings lead it doesn't mean you can go out and play like it's a Sunday arvo picnic match?! It's infuriating watching them get into a good position and then gift the game back to the opposition.

There is always the hope that the weather will save the match and turn it into a draw.

But hey Fark the weather "The MJ and Siddle Storm" is about to give us a flood of wickets on the final day.
