Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
I am a big Haydos fan. The way he brutally took apart any attack was breathtaking. But today, today was painful. It's like seeing a once great mind in the end stages of Alzeimers. Physically, it is there, but it is just not the same.

Let's hope he can give us one last brutal batting display.

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
There is no way they were going to not pick Hayden for this third and final test in the series. The guy deserves to go out with dignity after all he has done for Australian cricket.

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
adios haydos, and even the abc commentators think hayden should retire now, all we need is the selectors confirmation but the selectors want australia to hang in the past! that was an un-hayden innings with a strike rate of 39!

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
The Aussies had chances ti win both 1st/2nd test but at end of the day they lost it is as simple as that. South Africa did to the AUSSIES what the AUSSIES have be doing for the last 10-15 years they dug in and stood up when it counted, they did this by having the same team for the best part 18 months. AS soon as the AUSSIES have the same line up they will regain that killer instinct.SO rock on 09

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
Mip, the 'if only' is pointless, I agree. But DESPITE the end result, surely even you can see Australia had their chances to win BOTH tests?

You don't lead by nearly 100 and have a side battling to pass the follow on mark if you haven't had your chances to win.

It was gutsy and brilliant cricket from Sth Africa on both occassions that split the two sides.

Right now I'd have the Sth Africans 55-45 in front, but it is too early to call a 'par score' I think.

Ok, I'm off for the day.

Good luck Aussies!

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
I would call the 1st session even - Australia dominated for the 1st hour and then SA fought back. If we lost a 3rd wicket then I would have given it to SA.

As for the 1st 2 tests, they could have gone either way. SA had to score a near record 4th innings score to win, so that isn't domination of the match, just a bloody fantastic effort in that innings. In the 2nd test, we should have bowled Lee on day 3 for him to break his foot then while we still had a lead, not have him sit the day out & come back when the match was lost. Australia lost the match in Melbourne due to being down 1 bowler on day 3.

NYE..... and you were 1 batsman from total humiliation - Ponting.

Lets not do the 'if only' stuff coz its silly.

I gave the first session to South Africa today.

Well done Haydos, you're playing like a busted ar$e but you've managed to bat through a session.

I've had food poisoning that was less nauseating than this partnership.

Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
As I said Mip, final result doesn't tell the whole story.

We took a 94 run lead into the second dig at Perth and we had them battling to avoid the follow on in Melbourne.

We were one bowler and one batsmen short of being able to kill them off each time (Hayden and Lee!).

All credit to the Saffers for their fight and ability to turn both games into comprehensive victories. But it doesn't change the fact that BOTH games could've gone Aussies way, we just weren't good enough to capitalise.

And you talk of being one eyed - I've read your summation of the English tour of India, I also watched a lot of that series. I am still scratching my head at how you came up with how you saw it!

My prediction is an Australian loss.

Unless rain forces a draw. Good toss to win but still a loss I think.
