Re:Aus V SA Reply to this message
Chucker I completely agree.
Buchanan used to do all this sh 1t as well.
Tedious stuff really.
Get on with the cricket which Australia are going to lose by the way.
You know the funny thing is that Tim whathisname say Australia are No1 and South Africa are No2. He's living in a cave isn't he.
Idian may well be No1 and if not are certainly No2.
Total bollox is what he is speaking.
Anyway the tests will sort it all out. |

I am hoping the ball Hilfenhaus bowled to dismiss Boucher becomes a staple for him. He shaped the ball away from the batsmen consistently with the new and old ball. He has a great bouncer also. The glaring fault with him all test was the lack of a variation that comes back into the right hand batsmen. Whether or not he was just trying to make sure he got through the game with his stock ball on song, I don't know.
MJ has developed a decent slow ball since India and he has worked out a better seam position to get some swing also. Now it is up to Hilfy to work on some change up balls to keep the batsmen guessing. A slower ball (he attempted a few, but they need some work) and the one that comes in are the two that, if he perfects, can make him VERY dangerous.
I'm gonna start calling him BA from now on I think - the 'Bogan Alderman'!
Siddle looks to be a quick McGrath style bowler, that niggling line outside off, relying on seam movement. Handy if he gets it right at 145kph! |

Agreed Nye, we have made some of the changes we needed to. Still need a spinner, but I felt at ease that we would get the wickets with the four quicks in the last match. I think Hilf will be an amazing bowler if he developes some variety. Hughes looks like a real grafter with some nice off side shots. I was pleasantly surprised by North starting off so well. Good to see another real Sand Groper in the team (as much as I would like to claim Kato and Mitch).
Best thing about the match was that our top order can play much better. Huss will improve and Katich didn't do much after holding us togetehr all summer. |

well, in 2009 we are 2-0 over the saffers, so much for the demise of australian cricket. Nye, hilfy bowled well, you said he was a better 4-5 day bowler than that mickey mouse pyjama stuff and again you were spot on.
If McDonald can improve his batting he will be very handy, bowls tight, holds down an end and gets a couple of wickets.
Hughes is unorthodox but has potential without doubt, and to make 70 under the pressure of watching everyone fall around him shows charachter, North was class in the 1st innings, much to be happy about from that match. |

I remember taking the pi55 out of Sth Arica for saying the same thing after going down 3-0 in Australia last time. Trouble for them was they went down 3-0 at home too! So it was a 6-0 series defeat if they want to keep on with the '6 game series' line.
I'm happy to admit we lost the last series to Sth Africa, just as I'm happy to say we are 1-0 up in this series.
What would the doom-sayers think about an Aussie side with so many new faces taking out a series IN Sth Africa (if we do, not saying we will!). After going down 2-0 after 2 tests with a seasoned side the Aussie selectors introduced 2 debutants in Sydney, we won. They then brought in a further 3 this time, we won again.
A very good chance another will debut next game (McGain or Geeves). So that will make it 6 newbies in 3 tests - and the result has been a genuine change of fortunes for the side.
Dare I say it, but have we already hit 'rock bottom'? This young side is looking good and they should only improve with experience. |

| This is South Africa's greatest chance to prove their worth and take the number one spot. A home series for them to win is all that is required, what could be more indicative of true worth? Losing the first test at home on top of losing the last test away makes 2 losses in a row against Australia and a third loss or fail to win will definitely indicate they are where they currently should be... second, but winning the series will put them where they should be after a series win in Australia. Having said that, I hope Australia can emphatically demonstrate why they are ranked number one despite all the moaning and whinging by opposition fans on here. |

I think Aus can draw the series 1-1 and hold the ranking. So a draw or another win in the last 2 tests will see us stay on top.
Though I'd prefer 2 more wins! |

For a while we have been searching for the best possible bowling attack to take 20 wickets. I think, as far as the pace trio goes, we have found our answer!
With McDonald offering great support, the 3 frontline quicks did an outstanding job throughout this test. They kept a tight line and length, asked questions with almost every ball, took regular wickets and had thousands of deliveries beat the bat (sorry, not thousands - millions!).
All that was missing from the attack was a spinner, and I assume McGain will come in for the second test.
McDonald was excellent with the ball, but I think his is the only spot under question. |

| Thanks to Australia and South Africa for a great game and thanks to Australia for an even greater win. At one point I was ready to give due kudos to SA for a highly improbable successful run chase but I am much happier to see us find our winning ways again. The by-play in this thread is terrific and it is good to see Adrian and Scarpi etc. see off the neanderthals on here. So, to Friday with new vigour to wrap it all up. |

Never in doubt!
Good effort by a very inexperienced attack. South Africa will come back in the next Test, nothing is surer, but this is an encouraging result.
McDonald will struggle to hold his spot for the next match but otherwise the team is solid. Johnson can suddenly bowl an inswinger, and if Hilfenhaus can reproduce the delivery that got Boucher a little more often, he is going to be a fantastic bowler. Siddle provides aggression...all we need now is a decent spinner, and for Hussey to find some form with the blade!
btw, I still think the referral system is a load of cr@p. |

| just woken up and i am surprised to see us win! With Siddle and Johnson firing, Lee and Clark may find it hard to find a spot in the side for the ashes. |

2 to go and it's good to see the best 2 nations going at each other..
As for some of these pitches in other games..
